Something for the whole family to watch, 13 and 16yr old kids.
Tend to watch 2 or 3 episodes a few times a week when we have tea in front of the telly.

We've just finished
How I met your Mother

Ensemble cast shows seem to go down well and animation. Also shows that it doesn't really matter if one or another of us miss an episode, easily catch-upable :)

Stuff we've already seen...
Parks & Rec (x2)
Community (x3)
Superstore (x2)
Aaaaaall The Simpsons over and over
Futureama (x2)
Rick and Morty*
Bobs Burgers
Ghosts
Big Bang and Young Sheldon (x2)
Brooklyn 99

I'm sure there are others, but drawing a blank now.

Any suggestions? Kids seem to prefer U.S stuff. We've never really had (normal) telly telly; just apps and downloads, so I'm know we will have missed some good U.K terrestrial T.V. I'm sure they'd like Car Share for example.

They are smart kids and we often use maybe tough topics/outdated views that come up in 15+ stuff as conversation starters. There was plenty to discuss about HIMYM :)

Stuff to avoid...
No one needs to revisit Friends!
*Ricky and Morty was about as wacky/shouty as I could hack for tea time viewing - so nothing too mental!

Hit me up!
TIA

We loved The Rookie (ds likes the Rookie Feds), FBI (there are 3 versions) Death in Paradise, Shakespeare and Hathaway, The Majorca Files, Ghosts US, Traitors (and the Australian version NOT the US one)
Netflix is good for family friendly stuff we have just finished Manifest

Fishlegs · 19/07/2023 17:22

Relieved to see you haven’t missed Modern Family!

I’d second Schitt’s Creek, and also throw in Never Have I Ever as you’re watching with teens, dd and I watched it together recently and enjoyed it.

The Middle

No Malcolm in the Middle, just The Middle.
US family-centered sitcom. About 8 seasons.

Mingomang · 19/07/2023 18:22

Seinfeld!

The good place

Agree that Friday night lights is a good shout.
Also Chuck if you can find it somewhere

SantanaBinLorry · 20/07/2023 15:09

Thanks everyone, some really good ideas to be going on with here.

We've done the good place, x2 loved it!
Kims Conv. was very good also.

Tried Seinfeld, didn't catch :( The eldest sniggered a bit and gets its cultural relevance etc...maybe in a few years! (hopefully)
I'm also gonna try them with Cheers and Fraiser sometime soon.
Might actually disown them if they don't find those funny!

Looking good for Friday Night Lights and I've also been given the heads up about Animal Control (on Fox) another U.S ensemble work sitcom, so gonna download that and give it a go.

I'm enjoying the second series of The Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix, but I think it might have a few more adult scenes than I'd want a 13 year old to watch. It might be a good mention for other people though.

spoface · 21/07/2023 14:11

The IT Crowd and Gavin & Stacey 😀

BridgetRandomfuck · 21/07/2023 14:20

Cobra Kai is great fun and there are five series to binge. You don’t need to have seen The Karate Kid, though there’s lots in there for fans of that.

BasiliskStare · 21/07/2023 14:23

Ted Lasso ? ( Not sure how you access this - but loads of people I know are glued to it )

Cakey46 · 21/07/2023 15:28

Hi there

If you sign up to Apple TV (free for 6months I think) then you will all LOVE Ted Lasso. It is the funniest and nicest thing I have watched in years. Ignore the fact its about football - it kind of isn't, its about life and everything else but it's FUNNY and charming.

martinisforeveryone · 21/07/2023 18:40

I agree Ted Lasso is really sweet and charming. Series 2 which I just started last night does have a bit of an ooh err moment where someone's having some solitary pleasure but it's not too graphic and could probably be glossed over if needed. There is liberal use of the F word if that isn't your thing, but not in a particularly aggressive way. It's good natured with some good messages.

I don't think it's available in the UK anywhere except Apple TV.

fussychica · 23/07/2023 14:40

Kath and Kim, maybe a bit grown up for the youngest, likewise Rake
Schitts Creek
Miss Fishers Murder Mysteries

MsInsomniac · 23/07/2023 14:45

We (me, ds 11 and ds 13) all loved:
my name is earl
homeland
last man on earth
black books
the it crowd
motherland

Sarvanga38 · 23/07/2023 14:49

I'm not good at kids, so ignore any completely inappropriate suggestions. 😆

Are they too young for 24? Zoo?

Late to the party, but I've just binged Nashville in its entirety - a wee bit of a slow starter, but once I got into it I couldn't leave it alone - finished it last night and am bereft.

BumWhisperers · 23/07/2023 14:54

Hudson and rex, is a mild crime show, but easy viewing and has an adorable canine cop
This Is Us is good, I dont remember anything really spicy in it
The gentleman pirate as well, not sure where you could view it now, but ot was very funny

soontobeamama · 23/07/2023 14:56

The Goldberg's
How I Met Your Father
Ted Lasso
That 70's Show

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 23/07/2023 23:14

This doesn’t fit your viewing profile really but the two most successful long series that we watched with DS - The Mentalist ( absolutely love that and watch it over and over) and Supernatural.

The Mentalist probably my favourite TV series ever, actually.
