A few spoilers on the other thread, so someone suggested a different thread for weekly watchers!
Enjoyed first episode, but missed Sean Bean! Wonder if Helen Hunt will re-appear.

I will join this one .
I wish they would put up the translation subtitles for a bit longer in the screen !

Philandbill · 19/07/2023 05:48

Thanks for starting this thread, will delete the other one 😀

Bit confusing tonight for me, couldn't remember much about the Henrietta story. The schoolgirls story is so gripping, though. I am finding Lois's Manchester accent doesn't sound quite right!

I thought it was confusing too. Plot holes- single mother Lois would have been booted out of the ATS I think. And why did the soldier die in the desert so near to the string? The German girls were excellent but the plot is getting a bit too soapy I fear.

Bluelightbaby · 23/07/2023 22:38

My partner and I binge watched the first season in 3 days and now on episode 3 or 4 of series 2. Really enjoying it :)

SwedishEdith · 23/07/2023 23:45

The Indian officer in the desert 😍

Clawdy · 24/07/2023 08:16

Great to see Mark Bonnar, not sure about this character, though!

I really enjoyed last night's episode

I don't remember much about Henrietta's story either

The one thing that annoys us slightly are the hairstyle. Lois would never wear her hair down in the bar, it would have been up in victory rolls or something

CurbsideProphet · 24/07/2023 10:07

Henriette the nurse is Jewish. She has fake papers. I think that in series 1 she could have left but chose to stay and work with the American doctor (Helen Hunt's nephew).

Charliescat · 24/07/2023 17:49

The spy thing is intriguing me . At first I thought it was the man who played the dr in Downton but don’t think it is . The German storyline and the one with Henrietta are good the English storylines seem a bit too like every other period drama minus the spy

When he walked in apologising for arriving early. I said to DH 'He's not who he's meant to be and I bet he's got one of those machines in his case.' and he opened the case and there it was.

Willmafrockfit · 26/07/2023 08:07

also missing sean bean
but lesley manville is spot on

SammyScrounge · 26/07/2023 16:41

I love Lesley Manville in this.
Although it would be more accurate to say I love her in everything!

User63847484848 · 27/07/2023 16:24

just watching episode 1 of season 2
where’s vernon? I thought Lois said yes to marrying him?

Clawdy · 27/07/2023 16:39

Think Vernon was killed in the war.

OP posts:
Philandbill · 27/07/2023 16:45

Yes, Lois said her fiancé was killed in the Battle of Britain. Poor Vernon, I liked him.

TennisWithDeborah · 27/07/2023 17:42

The problem with the long hiatus between seasons is that actors won’t be available. Sean Bean, Helen Hunt, the Vernon actor. Completely understand that covid probably interrupted their plans for S2 though. It’s also odd to see how much Jan has aged, likewise Lois’ brother who looked much more boyish in scenes set a couple of weeks prior.

It’s very good. Lesley Manville is outstanding in everything she does and she has some great lines. Loved the Indian solder too.

Willmafrockfit · 27/07/2023 17:43

jan has really grown tall

Willmafrockfit · 27/07/2023 17:44

agree lesley manville has some great lines,
like something an old lady would say now, probably fairly accurate for the time.

Looking forward to seeing her Who Do You think you are tonight

bizzey · 29/07/2023 15:43

Lois's accent/voice reminds me of Michelle Keegan's haven't /voice in 10 pound poms that was on recently .

It is throwing me a bit !

SwedishEdith · 29/07/2023 16:23

The Lois actress was on BBC Breakfast this week talking about the accent. She'd started off thinking she needed to be full on Liam Gallagher. But a vocal coach had to roll her back to how actually Mancunians spoke in the 40s.

Clawdy · 30/07/2023 22:27

The horrific storyline about young Marga is like something from The Handmaid's Tale. So difficult to watch, but very well-acted.
