A few spoilers on the other thread, so someone suggested a different thread for weekly watchers!
Enjoyed first episode, but missed Sean Bean! Wonder if Helen Hunt will re-appear.

She reminds me of Liz Truss. But yes, very Handmaid's Tale.

To think there must be very elderly Germans still alive today who would have been born this way. Chilling.

Clawdy · 31/07/2023 08:01

Don't think they are "very" elderly, they will be in their seventies. Anni Frid of ABBA was one, apparently, born in Norway, where the scheme was also implemented.

I realised that as soon as I posted. I was born in 1955 myself. Oops.

I don't think so. We don't know much about him at all.

Good episode tonight, but very dark and sad.

Sad that Harry's sergeant died, that actor was great. Finding the pilot in hiding storyline and Lois's apparent freedom from any orders utterly far fetched though. There's no way a single mother would have been allowed to keep her place in the ATS and be posted to north Africa and then decide when she wanted to come home.

CaptainMyCaptain · 15/08/2023 07:17

Yes, I was surprised Lois could just get up and go home. Women weren't conscripted but even so...

CaptainMyCaptain · 15/08/2023 15:34

Actually, in Testament of Youth by Vera Britten (sp?) she was Nursing on the Front Line in WW1 and her mother called her home to look after her. She wasn't ill just wanted waiting on. Maybe you could just go if you were a volunteer.

There have always been plot turns that seem improbable, like SOE agents getting into Poland at the end of s1. How? The whole problem with defending Poland was that you couldn’t get to it because Germany is in the way. The only way in would have been over the mountains to the south via Romania. I don’t think it was even attempted unless by British-based Polish Commandos on very, very special and dangerous missions, with almost no chance of getting out again.

Sir Mark is sometimes called Mr Danemore or something. If you’re Sir Mark, you’re not Mr, you’re Sir Mark Danemore, usually referred to as Sir Mark.

I do like Lesley M. She’s believable.
