I think we have seen it, she has been giving her unsolicited opinion as fact since she came in, just on less occasions. Now she feels secure in a couple and in her position in the villa she doesn't see any reason to attempt to moderate it. I think the Whitney we are seeing now is the real one.

I'd agree with this. I think she feels justified with the voting of favourite couple so thinks she can do no wrong and the viewers are all on her side

Hated the way the producers forced them together. But she still couldn't apologise for her behaviour. Ella said you hurt me. But all Whitney does is keep repeating how she's the most selfish person shes met.

I find the way she just talks over whoever's talking by repeating their name really patronising. It's like she's fed up talking to a tantruming toddler. Not a close friend she's just been a bitch to.

Aquarius1234 · 23/07/2023 09:57

I used to watch these shows to see the genuine arguments and drama.
The fact the producers don't show any non scripted rows and arguments is ridiculous.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 23/07/2023 10:42

@CellophaneFlower

I don't see any emotion from Whitney, is this due to filler? Her face doesn't move at all and her voice is oddly the same, completely monotone, freaks me out a bit. Almost as much as Kady, whom I was convinced was a Stepford Wife and if you pushed her hard enough, her batteries would fall out.

😆I missed this the other day, about Kady! About her batteries falling out! 😂

Glad to see loads of people are on board with the new (real) Whitney - and can see her for what she is now... It seemed like it was only me and a couple of others on here.

Many people were saying 'but I still like her!' I was like >>> Confused HOW? She is really rude!

...And yes I DO believe this is the real 'her' as we have seen her being quite spiteful and bitchy to people over the weeks; it's just been played down a bit/been subtle. Like when someone said something negative to Scott, (can't remember what it was now sorry... that he was boring or something???) Whitney said 'well maybe there's some truth in it.' Even then I was like Shock

For a moment I thought she was joking, but she wasn't, and she looked over at him to see a reaction. As other posters have said, she has said snide and spiteful things before too. And she rattled on about how 'selfish' Ella is over and over again, until she was sure Ella had heard it and was upset by it

They are supposed to be friends and she treats her like this?! I am no fan of Ella's and have gotten bored with her mardy face over the past few weeks, and got sick of her and Tyrique's drama-fest!!! but I actually felt sorry for her the other night...

Whitney is spiteful and catty and bitchy, and gives zero shits about who she offends. If she treats her friends like she treated Ella, then I would hate to see how she treats her enemies.

As I (and a number of others) have said, it is NOT a strength or a good attribute to 'tell it like is' ALL the time. Being mean and catty and spiteful, and making derogatory remarks, does NOT make you look 'honest,' it does NOT make you a good person, and it is not a STRENGTH! As I said earlier in the thread, sometimes a little white lie (or just holding back and saying nothing) is OK!

As a previous poster said, Whitney saying 'I just tell the truth ... I won't lie, I can't lie etc,' is basically stating that her opinion is a FACT, and it's pissing me right off. No Whitney, an opinion is just that: an OPINION. Your OPINION is not a FACT FGS!

Gruffaflo · 23/07/2023 11:14

I think it's unfortunate Whitney found out she was the most popular, I actually think it's more of a head than finding out you're in the bottom in some ways. You don't know what's been shown, what it is that people like and you're bound in a pressurised situation to amplify the behaviours you think people like watching; in this case 'being real' and 'honest'. There's also the added pressure of hostility from those in the villa and from the public, even before the whole Ella thing social media was awash with she's so smug now, she think she's all that and she isn't, and there were some horrible comments in the villa. I agree she isn't coming across well at all, I feel uncomfortable that the producers are pushing her and Ella's issues, we know they've omitted fights and intervened to resolve things before. I know she's accountable for her own behaviour, but they have very much built her up to very boldly help in tearing her down. Personally I think Abi is behaving worse, but it's for sure paving the way for the finalists that production want isn't it.

FiloPasty · 23/07/2023 11:17

I also think this is a bit ducked up from the producers it’s such edited boolocks and some of you are taking a bit too seriously. Some of the comments towards people are positivity vitriolic.
I think Whitney is probably quite fragile underneath it all and the itv mental health team have not been doing their duty.

blacknredsweeties · 23/07/2023 11:23

I've not watched since Thursday. Can Whitney have done a 180???? Is it the parents tonight?

Worst season yet. Don't care who wins.
Non of them deserve it.

CellophaneFlower · 23/07/2023 11:37

There are far more kind, tactful ways to "say it how it is", if that's how you want to be. Certainly not in retaliation after you feel you've been aggrieved.

I think some people struggle to accept they may have been wrong about Whitney. Then all the producers manipulation comments start being thrown around, although this is never mentioned if they've disliked an islander from the start.

I also find it interesting that Whitney seems to be open to literally any islanders that shows an interest. I mean either she doesn't have a type at all and is easily pleased, or she's really desperate to stay in that villa!

Agree.
We moan about being manipulated by the producers so if we accept that that's the case then how do we know what's real? Old Whitney/new Whitney, old Catherine/new Catherine, old Tyrique/new Tyrique etc etc.?

Also, I thought Whitney did apologise to Ella when they were back in the villa?

Anyhoos, definitely not Whitney's finest hour but I still don't see her as the ultimate bitch she's being painted as by some. None of the islanders have been perfect - as you'd expect with any group of humans literally locked up together!

I may have to do an 'anti-vote' and go for Mitch and Ella B 😆

Puffalicious · 23/07/2023 12:00

Oh yes. It's so arrogant.

Ithink Whitney is probably quite fragile underneath it all and the itv mental health team have not been doing their duty

WTF do you get fragile from in any of her behaviour? She's her own biggest fan. I'm certainly not demonising the girl- we all have sides to us that are not great, she's young, we see limited things, shes been such fun at other times, a good friend etc but she's in no way fragile! Please explain where there's any fragility!

MackenCheese · 23/07/2023 12:12

I don't know what I think about ahitney, or any other islanders to be honest. I change from day to day.......

We just want this over with. But I'm too invested to stop watching now!! 😩

Gruffaflo · 23/07/2023 12:15

You can tell there's tonnes that we don't see, you can tell by some of the comments and choices in the last challenge- some surprising answers from what we have seen or rather haven't. Someone who comes across confidently can also be fragile though, in fact its quite often the case.

blacknredsweeties · 23/07/2023 12:15

Same - I've had to fast forward through 20 episodes. I don't want to watch it.

Twonewcats · 23/07/2023 12:35

Don't want any of them to win.
Hating this series.
Wish they'd just hurry up and get it over with.
Why the f*ck am I still watching? 🤣🤣

LindorDoubleChoc · 23/07/2023 13:00

Yes, definitely tons we don't see. Remember when we all couldn't work out what Scott had done wrong and everyone turned on him? And we were all mystified by Catherine's horrible behaviour towards him when she got back from Casa Amor?

I also agree with you Gruffalo on the idea that Whitney might be under the impression that her directness / straight talking / take no prisoners style (whatever you want to call it) is what viewers actually LIKE about her and that's what she's playing up to a bit.

Either way, she's done herself no favours - editing or not. I picked up on it a few days ago but it doesn't bother me as much as some on here! Honestly, it doesn't actually matter, it's just a TV game show and all of us will have forgotten all of them within weeks!

LindorDoubleChoc · 23/07/2023 13:02

I haven't got a clue who I'm going to vote for! It might have to be Zach and Molly even though I hated that very strange dumping / coming back process.

CellophaneFlower · 23/07/2023 13:05

And we were all mystified by Catherine's horrible behaviour towards him when she got back from Casa Amor?

I assumed she went into defensive mode to try and detract from the fact he stayed loyal and she didn't?

Jigslaw · 23/07/2023 13:21

I really enjoyed the first half of the series, also finding it hard going now and find I'm skipping episodes and fast forwarding bits- not fussed who wins!

I think Whitney was genuinely hurt by the way Catherine voted in the challenge (which I do think was unreasonable as its a challenge and everyone was catching strays and there was some savagery going on towards most couples), and doesn't know how to deal with this other than go on the super defensive. I think the comment about being the youngest sibling came when things were still raw and it escalated. Not saying it was okay for Whitney to talk to her like that, I do wonder if there's something else going on as they seemed close even in the same episode just before the challenge.

There is something with Scott but not sure what it is, there's a reason I think that everyone in there doesn't seem to click with him, probably just isn't the right fit for the show rather than being nasty or anything?

I still think Sammy is pushing on with Jess as he knows it's near the end which is a shame- the love thing just after Ty said it I think shows he's in it to win it.

FreeRider · 23/07/2023 13:30

I said about the last series that it was obvious none of them liked each other...and I think this series is worse!

Have any of the couple said they are boyfriend/girlfriend? Or is the vomit inducing 'I love you' act by Ty the nearest they've got to it? Usually at this point there is at least two couples who are boyfriend/girlfriend.

Like @WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps Whitney is arrogant enough to think that whatever she states is 'fact' rather than her 'opinion'...and I think that is what riled Abi up the most. I also suspect it is actually Lochlan the public like most, not her...

Jigslaw · 23/07/2023 13:40

I think unseen bits shows a few of them get on well but they don't show much of this in the main show. The best series imo have been the ones where there are decent friendships and lighthearted moments. The forced 1:1 away from the others absolutely shows producer's fanning the flames if not even instigating it. It does seem strange how Whitney is doubling down so hard on the selfish comment, and I personally can't really see why choosing them as the most smug in the challenge was so hurtful to her. Maybe I'm naieve but it just seems so much like producer interference at this point because it doesn't seem to make sense! That said I have a friend who will double down even when she realises she's in the wrong which is bloody annoying so not outside of the realms.

CellophaneFlower · 23/07/2023 13:50

Imo if you're told to make yourself look a total arsehole by the producers and do so, you deserve to be disliked.

I don't actually believe the producers tell them what to say/who to pick. I do agree they manipulate by putting them in situations/choosing orders of coupling etc to create drama, but that's fine.

People often bring up Billy ( Gemma/luca series) when talking about heavy editing as apparently he called them out on it, but he was totally deluded imo. If Gemma was so into him, no amount of editing would have stopped her from getting with him. She just didn't want to!

FreeRider · 23/07/2023 13:51

Well I don't think Gemma wanted to 'get' with any of the boys in there, hence why she spent the whole time with a face like a slapped arse!

Jigslaw · 23/07/2023 13:55

I do agree they can't force people who are unwilling to do stuff they don't want to, but there are lots of interesting articles and snippets of insight from a variety of previous contestants (not all of the bitter ones either lol) and staff about the level of input there is into what happens.

It does put me off if true. I'm not sure why they need to interfere too much. They've put a bunch of people together, most who have huge egos or proclaim "I never have to graft in real life". I can't imagine how this wouldn't end up in frequent fall outs/bitching etc.

I get that they prompt the "Can we have a chat" scenarios, but guessing there is a lot of boring nothingness so they need to encourage a certain amount of viewing material.
