Just realised who Freddie’s actor is then.

So a classic bit of famous/wealthy parents nepotism… nice

His character has been good to watch though.

You think he's been good to watch, so isn't it possible that he was hired because he's great, and not because of nepotism?
You think Jeff Brazier has much clout?

He is decent yeah but I’m sure plenty of others can do a similar job. Seems to be increasing that people who are already somewhat famous/recognisable get many of these entry roles nowadays. Suppose it’s good to drum up some hype and media attention or attract a particular audience. Take Gina for instance - not very good at acting but assume it just helps appeal to roping in more of a young audience to watch, and already has bbc connections.

Yeah, you could say that about the established actors too, though, Colin Salmon was hired as a huge star. All the producers are interested in is drawing in viewers, so mildly recognisable people are going to be preferred.
I've never seen Gina before EE, I'm not sure who she is. Anna was already a BBC love, but thankfully her acting is improving 😄

I’ve probably just got the sisters names confused sorry. Molly Rainford is who I mean.

Yeah, that's Anna I think.
She was really bad at the start 😳
I saw that she's dating Tyler West now

I think it was the "double trouble" off the rails vibe they cast them as initially.
Very OTT and fake.
She's growing on me now that her character is mellowing.
Freddie and Bob, just brilliant together.

Eastie77Returns · 06/08/2023 21:56

Catching up this week..Callum reassuring Ben he’s a great dad because he looks after Lexi and does basic things like making her school lunch “for free” and doesn’t get paid to do it was weird. I didn’t realise parents are supposed to be paid a salary to care for their offspring. I’m owed about 10 years in back pay!

Bunionbabe · 07/08/2023 07:55

Ads we've remarked on here before, every parent on EE, no matter how useless, feckless, stupid, neglectful or even absent/temporarily dead is always held tp be 'great mum/dad'.

Mrsjayy · 07/08/2023 08:43

@Eastie77Returns imagine looking after your own kid for free what A SAINT 😄

What does Ben do now he's sold the garage? I missed a chunk of episodes because the stories were irritating me.

Mrsjayy · 07/08/2023 08:45

Oh I think Honey clocked Ben's not eating pattern she gave him a look in the pub .

It’s so ridiculous. Ben reeling off all this ‘stressful’ stuff he has to do (like buying her a new school bag ffs?!) and Callum’s gazing at him like he’s some kind God because he’s finally stepping up and looking after HIS OWN CHILD.

No idea what Ben does now. He mentioned he has money from the garage sale so doesn’t need to work? Maybe the funds are like Phil’s magic safe and will never run out.

Yep Honey has worked out Ben has an ED. I do think they pile too many miserable storylines on him. It’s just one awful thing after another. He’s a great actor though and they are thin on the ground on EE. I don’t think many of the current cast have the talent to pull off taxing storylines, eg Colin Salmond’s daughters (their acting is so bad I can’t recall their names).

Mrsjayy · 07/08/2023 10:24

I think its supposed to highlight, Lola did everything and Ben's mental health isn't great so finds everything too much but surely Callum the detective could work out that buying a school bag isn't that stressful and work out Ben isn't coping.

Although I remember my Dds pre teen girl angst about getting the right school bag so maybe Ben has a point 😂

Jellykat · 07/08/2023 20:00

I love Honey, remember when she was a bit dense, constantly using the wrong words and phrases?

📢KLAXON ALERT!! 📢

Phil Mitchell tells Ben he's PROUD of him.
And tells him WHY.
And admits he doesn't say it often enough.
(And smiles several times in one episode).

I've come over all unnecessary and need to lie down now.

Honey was very sweet with Ben. Much prefer her in deeper, supportive conversations, rather than the usual market inspector nonsense.
I sense Ben may well get to such a point of despair that he does seek her out eventually.

Will be interesting to see how viewers react to a generally disliked character (though really well acted one, IMO) suffering with an ED vs a more popular one.

I've said all along it would surely have been more authentic for Honey to relapse with her bulimia during/after the Lola trauma.
But, no, let's dump yet another issue on Ben.
<sigh>

(BTW, I wasn't regularly watching Honey's ED storyline. Can someone fill me in as to what happened. Did she get the EE magic NHS access to a therapist within a week, and no problems with it ever since?)

Phil saying all the above (in my prior post) to Ben, whilst welcome and bloody rare, also probably plays into his low sense of self-worth. He'll now feel he has to be seen to be "picking himself up and getting on with things" at all costs, or else risk losing Daddy's praise.

Lexi being straightforward to Jay about soon dealing with periods and bras was gold. And testament to how comfortable their relationship is that she feels able to discuss. And much-needed comedy between Ben angst.

Oh, Reiss, when you're in a deep hole, always best to stop digging further.

Rudolph Walker is an extremely good looking man, especially for 83!! Yeah, man.

Patrick naughtiness with Yolande in Birmingham behind husband's back, though. Lord. Will she now stay in Walford, or will he decide to move there and fight for her?
She was always good value before.

I don't understand when the Birmingham shenanigans were supposed to have happened?!? Didn't Patrick go to Trinidad to look for Yolande?

PS. Also loved the scene with Lexi and Jay. Refreshing to see her being so matter of fact about periods and bras ☺️

I also thought Patrick had gone to Trinidad! Wasn’t Honey’s eating disorder storyline at the same time the actress was doing Strictly? I always thought it was to tie in with any weight she might lose during the show. I could be wrong…
