I watched it all yesterday.

Interesting the Holts who were featured as friends of the Duggars have now split up and she has a protection order against him for being highly abusive and controlling 😬

I need to watch this, I wonder if it's worth getting prime for again XD

I didn't watch any of the series on TLC but do find the (home-schooling, quiver-full, submissive wife) subculture interesting. This documentary uncovers a different side to it all.

Absolutely fascinating. Just watched the first episode so far, but I find the whole American hard-core Christian homeschooling culture fascinating.

I'm on episode three. Jill Duggar has her nose pierced definitely not something her parents would have approved of. I wonder if she's still in contact with the family. She kept her interview answers very factual rather than dishing the dirt. But I'm shocked that JB Duggar hasn't given her any of the money from the shows.

He's a horrible, abusive, controlling man.

Thinking about it he tends to provide them with vehicles and land to build on rather than give them money. Like you said its control so they still have to ask him for help and he gets to decide what he will do for them.

He's cruel - read up on Michael and Debi Pearl and their book "How to Train Up a Child" if you want to see how these people treat their babies and children.

Check out Without A Crystal Ball on YouTube. It’s a channel run by a woman called Katie Joy. She has all the information about the Duggars, and her videos are free. I would say she has more information than the documentary.

She, however, does have her own personal biases. For example, she reported that Josh is in a relationship with another inmate, but she can’t seem to accent that Josh is bisexual and all the implications that come with that. I suspect her reticence to accept that is because she is bisexual, and understandably she doesn’t want to have anything in common with that monster.

I liked Shiny Happy People, I think it’s wonderful that Jill is sharing her story her way. I knew Jim Bob didn’t pay his children for their time on the show, but I had no idea he later made them sign life long contracts to be subservient to him and give him part of their income in exchange for a small pay out!

I watched it. I think Jill is really brave for distancing herself and her children from her parents and for speaking out. I don’t think she’s going to be the only one too, tbh. It doesn’t surprise me in the least that JB had kept all the money. It wouldn’t surprise if everything is passed to their sons on his death either. The whole thing is cult like and antiquated. I hope more break free.

Jill has written a tell-all book I think.
She is in contact with some of her sisters, it appears.

She is someone I really feel sorry for, as is pointed out in the program she has been so robbed of any agency she doesn't even know she could change her life
