I think Donna’s sentencing must mark the last we see of her - she’s left the show.

AnImaginaryCat · 17/09/2023 09:49

I never like the character of Teddy. Now I have an immense loathing of him.

It really is wrong that people can get arrested for accompanying someone to a clinc in Switzerland. Not like they cam force someone into it.

Yes I don't understand how you can be arrested for accompanying someone or even paying for their trip. You are not actually giving them the drug and the clinic gives them multiple opportunities to back out. I would understand maybe if the person didn't have capacity but he clearly does.

Spidey66 · 17/09/2023 11:00

A couple of things I missed somewhere….where have Faith’s kids gone?

I never watched Holby. When Donna was in court the judge/barrister/whoever mentioned one of her girls being her daughter, the other her niece. I assumed they were her kids. What’s the backstory?

Hellocatshome · 17/09/2023 11:16

Faiths kids the older daughter took them and moved out somewhere.

No clue about Donna's neice.

bizzey · 17/09/2023 11:16

When Donna's dad died she found out she had a half sister.
The sister was Mia's mum.

The sister died and was being brought up by the grandmother.

The grandmother died and knew she was dying I think and so wanted Donna to take Mia ,so Mia didn't have to go into care.

So Donna took her on aged about .
I think Mia was about 4/5 ish ?

So technically..Mia and Amber are half cousins not sisters .

Said it before on this thread about Donna expecting too much from Mia in regards for looking after Amber.

Excellent episode with Jan and Geth.

I has cleaned my face and put on a new eye cream to try out !

Blubbed my whole way through the episode.😭😭😭....bit of a waste of eye cream !.

Loved the editing and getting sad bits interwoven with comedy.

Loved the scene where Jan was shaving him and said grumpily ...don't move or you will end up cut (not exact words)
Then straight to the next scene with Geth with the bits of tissue stuck to his face !😂

bizzey · 17/09/2023 11:25

The writing of Geths character was well done.

For a "newbie" I think he touched a lot of hearts watching him at his end .

He was very endearing.

the80sweregreat · 17/09/2023 11:36

Quite scary that taking your own life might not even work under such conditions:(
The policewoman was horrible too

honkersbonkers38 · 17/09/2023 11:46

The episode with Jan and Gethin was really good. Excellent acting from both.

the80sweregreat · 17/09/2023 13:22

It was compelling last night

It was an excellent mix of comedy and absolute trauma. Brilliant acting from them all. So angry at Teddy ruining it for Jan.

Very surprised that Donna got a sentence and was willing Faith to die.

bizzey · 17/09/2023 13:54

So if Teddy hadn't told the police , would it just have gone un noticed ?

Not sure how to word it ...

I mean would Jan have just come back and no one would have asked any questions ?

Had Gethin booked a return ticket ?

The passport man knew what they were there for 😞.

ChrisPPancake · 17/09/2023 14:54

I don't get why Teddy was so upset. I know he was related to Gethin but realistically they've only had a relationship for the last few months haven't they? Or was it realising what he'd done to Jan?

It's barbaric that anyone can be charged for that, accompanying someone at the end is traumatic enough without it being a criminal offence. Would the tapes the clinic recorded be helpful? They showed he wasn't coerced and they made a point of saying no Swiss laws had been broken.

Great acting from Jan and Gethin. I actually googled Robert Pugh to see if he'd had a stroke or something, his character was so realistic.

Genuinely thought hoped they were seeing Faith off last night. Hoping she'll be in rehab for a long time!

Thought Donna was going to get at most a suspended sentence, especially when the lad spoke up on her behalf. Proper sharp intake of breath when she was sent down.

Oh, shame. I was predicting an episode set in Holby Women's Prison featuring Jan and Donna sharing a cell. Inevitably they would end up saving someone's life and will get their sentences commuted

bizzey · 17/09/2023 22:26

@Kiwano that would have been brilliant!
A cross from ...
Cell Block H / Holby / Casualty!

I’m guessing that it’s because Jan gave him money, I suppose that’s a technicality where they could say that she’d assisted him by giving him money which meant he could afford to go to the clinic in Switzerland.

Great acting from Jan and Gethin. I actually googled Robert Pugh to see if he'd had a stroke or something, his character was so realistic.

I wondered that too, he was very convincing.

islamann · 17/09/2023 23:18

Beautiful acting from Di Botcher and Robert Pugh.

Don't care for Donna, she's not been in it long enough for me to get to know her character. I didn't watch Holby so no history.

I wonder who will become lead nurse now. None of the existing nursing staff have been qualified long enough, except Charlie, and he is also leaving.

ShinyPikachu · 18/09/2023 00:12

Charlie is there so rarely now I forget he's actually still in it and I hate saying that. Donna locked up, Faith in recovery, and looks like Jodie is going to offer a kidney to Max. Whether he takes it or not is another matter but the previous nursing shortage was mentioned a lot and now they're back in the same boat, maybe even worse since the only ones left are Charlie and the newbies, and potentially down Jodie.

I did joke to DH though that knowing Casualty writers Donna could have appealed and been back in the hospital within a week. Grin Sad to know now that that won't happen randomly. I had also thought they could have covered her story in jail throughout a few episodes to cover the basic term at least.

Whatthetrolley · 18/09/2023 00:36

No one's mentioned Sa resigning, let's see if they work their notice!

Rightthere · 18/09/2023 01:30

@bizzey
So if Teddy hadn't told the police , would it just have gone un noticed ?

My dad had a heart attack and died in the street when he and my mum were on holiday in a non-touristy village abroad. He had had a heart attack before.

My mum didn’t speak the language. All the officials were kind and helpful, they found someone in the village who was English who could explain what was going on, and they and the insurance company helped her make the arrangements - or perhaps made them on her behalf.

The first people who came to visit her when she got home were the police, who came to interview her about his death. She definitely felt under suspicion.

I’m not sure what arrangements were being made for Gethin’s cremation. If his body was being brought back to Holby perhaps that might have been reported to the police anyway without Teddy saying anything?

Whenwillglorioussummercome · 18/09/2023 11:21

Donna has only just appeared! I wonder what made her feel like leaving so soon, after being such a longstanding Holby cast member?

EBearhug · 18/09/2023 13:20

Maybe it wasn't her choice? Or she got a better offer.

MyTruthIsOut · 18/09/2023 13:53

Maybe Holby is returning and she’s migrating back!!

I wish it was anyway 🥳🤣

Wendysfriend · 18/09/2023 14:00

I am so happy that Donna's gone 😁😁😁🥳🥳🥳🙌🙌🙌🕺🕺🕺 Not many left now, who's going to take over from the lovely Max? I would love to see Connie come back, even though I know she won't but I can hope and pray, my prayers worked on Donna 😂😂
