I thought she was in a one bed place. And all in same room

She said one bed. Tight flat

But I rewatched and said she repurposed her living room as a bedroom for kids - which had the washing in

So yes she could have had the living room for her and kids in the bedroom which has less is no mould

And washing in with her no kids

Said it was a 12yr wait for a 3 bed house

Tho surely moving to a 2 bed flat /house would have been better then one bed

Michelle who had 9 kids tho 3 had left home so 6 at home had a 3 bed semi which she had for a year or so

In my area the council don't give out houses which are smaller than your entitlement even if you ask them to. I worked with a family with two teenagers who could have shared but they wouldn't give a 2 bed house because the boys were stepbrothers and each entitled to their own bedroom.

The housing allocation on bedrooms is generally no more than 2 kids per bedroom so the woman with 6 kids would probably be entitled to a 4 bed house/ flat although a lot of local authorities count the living room as a bedroom.

People seem to think temporary accommodation is in abundance. The reality is they probably tried to stick her in Luton or somewhere hundreds of miles from where she has lived for the last 17 years and she’d have to remove them kids from school and completely turn their lives upside down. Don’t be so quick to judge.

I felt sorry for Dion but the more I watched I felt angry with her. It was very pertinent that her bedroom was spacious with no washing lines hanging from the walls. Six people sleeping in a room with washing for 7 people hanging in it is asking for mould, regardless of how great the property is. We need to take individual responsibility at a certain point. Her poor kids 😭

She also has to protect her mental health! She needs some sort of sanctuary at the end of a long day looking after 6 kids she DIDNT INTENTIONALLY HAVE!

We don't know the full story though. Temp accommodation could be miles away from the children's schools. Or in one of those run down B&Bs. She came across as a woman who wouldn't turn down something that would benefit her kids. I'm guessing the offer would have disrupted them too much.

hear hear!

I didn't see the London one, but I saw the Birmingham one.

Yes, whereas I agree it is a 'surface' look at the situation, the fact of the matter is, this actually is how a lot of people live.
It would be good if MPs were made to watch a few programmes like this (and the truly excellent film 'I, Daniel Blake') as so many of them have absolutely no concept that there are a considerable number of the population who do live like this.

Sadly, after 13 years of Tory rule, many in such positions simply don’t care :(

@A90 so as a mum, who has a choice about bringing unplanned children into world, you should prioritise your own "sanctuary" over your dc's health and wellbeing?!

If it meant the difference between being able to parent or being on suicide watch, then yes. I don’t think anyone can criticise until they’ve been in the exact same position.

Thinker24 · 23/12/2023 14:04

To be honest ,anybody else i will feel sorry for, she was sleeping with somebody partner (i know it takes 2 to tango, so all the blame, cant be on her) and got pregnant knowing full well of her situation. So she shouldnt be on national tv looking for sympathy votes and the baby father needs to concentrate on looking after the other 5 kids he has. Sorry but not sorry

Th1nk1st · 08/09/2024 00:41

Exactly, it's crazy how they have more and more children when they can't afford to look after them! 6+kids 😲 come on love, keep your legs crossed!
She said she was on contraception?? Er no.. they're is 100% zero chance of you getting pregnant 🤰 if you use contraception PROPERLY - we need to teach in school 'You Do Not Have Child after Child if you can't afford to bring them up adequately! 🤬
