Eurovision 2023 Liverpool: Semi Final 2

Top picks to look for: Austria (though rehearsal looked underwhelming) and Australia (very heavy on the props!)

There's a few more typical Eurovision songs in there than semi one. This semi is more your guilty Eurovision pleasure than your Eurovision winner.

The Ukrainian entry, UK entry and Spanish entry also get a preview. The Ukrainian one is surprisingly good - when I first saw it I thought it was awful but it's really grown on me and the staging looks good.

The rehearsal clip of Austria troubles me. I am not convinced it is going to lend itself to the size of the stage nor the performers pull it off.

Which is upsetting because I think it's my fav from semi 2.

Just got out of the preview show. Have a new appreciation for the stage crew. The stage floor is a screen and they put a yellow outline of where the props are supposed to be positioned and wheel everything out with precision.

They had fake Graham Norton for Alisha and co. And fake contestants for the fake results which was fun (there are four cameras for this so this gives you clues for announcements tonight)

Also the presenters who I thought shite on Tuesday were incredible - I think it's more to do with the bloody awful dresses and how it comes across on stage.

Tonight's show is good. All the acts are good (although Greece's vocals a touch ropey) but some were exceptional. It's incredible seeing how they come on stage 'cold' do three mins and then are gone. It's so quick.

We got a sneak peek of Mae Muller (I'm not sure if there is a rehearsal clip of the UK online yet). The staging is good...

Austria are definitely the one to watch for.

Beyond that not going to say anymore.

After being in the stadium I'd be shocked if Finland don't win now. (Not that I've seen Finland live today).

Really interesting to hear your impressions @RedToothBrush.

I’m going to predict the following qualifiers (ordered by running order): Armenia, Belgium, Cyprus, Poland, Slovenia, Georgia, Austria, Albania, Lithuania, Australia.

They’re not my favourite 10 songs (e.g. I really, really dislike Belgium’s song). But seem most likely to go through based on running order/song/countries voting in SF2.

Belgium went down a storm with the crowd. The staging is good and it's really upbeat.

I'd personally prefer Estonia over Georgia to qualify but I think your list isn't far off the mark.

The afternoon show was incredible, and as Red says huge congratulations to the stage crew and techies who make it all run so smoothly.
And my favourites, Australia, did not disappoint!

got soaked at the euro village afterwards.

but met Ritchie Anderson, who admired my pink Kalush hat!
