Hi
I love this show but...immediate spoiler folks - I got to Reece's character about to have his foot sawn off and had to stop watching.

did they actually do it? What happened generally?

I am very squeamish and also never saw the art gallery one for that reason.

I think live i would have probably turned over not know but i agree with the poster who said it was unsettling. Kept waiting on it going weird.... i thought it was a really good concept for an episode and even better when u think how they managed to pull it off. X

Apparently if you watched it live you were told there was a change to the schedule. I wonder how many people switched off at that point?

I would've! I just tried to watch what I'd recorded and got very confused as it was played so straight. Switched it off thinking EPG has been coded wrongly. Googled it which spoiled it a bit. Appreciated it more than actually enjoyed it, iyswim!

I re-watched it tonight after having the right hump yesterday over a shitty quiz show with Lee Flipping Mack being subbed .
But when I re-watched (knowing what i know now) the script was clever , the Oakwoods were very annoying Grin

I did say on forst view "Well the Tenors went home with £500 , on Tipping Point you leave with nothing if you don't win"

DD picked up the mindreader/nosebleed bit ( it was in Stranger Things) and when they got to the last question Ice-T / Fur-Q ....
(And the reference to Childline) the clues were there !

I wassearching up Lee Mack 3x3 but nothing came up , of course 3x3= 9 Grin

Is that the first episode Steve and Reece haven’t appeared in?

middleager · 20/05/2023 07:41

I didn't like this week's at all. I get that it was clever, with a twist, and I watched it live, but I just didn't find it funny, entertaining or the twist worth my investment. I also get the idea that Steve and Reece had the last laugh. But I'm not going to fawn over this like many on SM.

I've watched all No9s and while they don't have to be funny - infact some are painfully poignant - they missed the mark on this for me, but I know I'm not in the majority.

estellacruella · 20/05/2023 08:46

I belive so..... i think these been 2 other episodes Where just one of them star in without the other... i think the harrowing is missing Steve and last gasp is missing reece. X

TitsInAbsentia · 20/05/2023 13:17

Sadly found that last episode quite disappointing even though I understand the concept behind it, just wasn't No 9 enough for me!

Lorrymum · 20/05/2023 14:17

Thought it really was a gameshow and deleted it! Had to then watch on player after researching. Sometimes you can be a little too clever.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

I really liked it. Lovely subtle lines like Charlotte getting the correct answer to a quick fire question that she couldn’t have possibly known from the amount f question she heard. I thought the exploding head at the end over egged it though.

Marchintospring · 20/05/2023 21:43

I thought the general idea was good and it was a convincing game show.

But the mum at the end made no sense.Presumably the daughter could have done it anytime. And you wouldn’t need to go on a gameshow if you could “guess” accurately.

ZombieKettle · 20/05/2023 21:59

I loved it. Watched it on IPlayer and had to check I'd not accidentally selected the wrong programme. Ending reminded me of David Cronenberg's film Scanners.

I thought the idea was that she wanted to go on the game show to get the money. I also had the feeling that she was kept in conditions at home which prevented her being able to do what she did to the mother.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 21/05/2023 15:42

I thought this week’s was great! I hadn’t heard about the “on the buses” one that was the supposed planned episode and although I hadn’t heard about the 3 by 3 episode until I was watching on iPlayer last night so I didn’t get taken in by the BBC announcement but I really enjoyed it. Watched again today to see what clues I’d missed!

Saucery · 21/05/2023 15:56

Catherine’s Mum looked ill at ease from the start, like she found it all a bit beneath her. I think Catherine may have planned it all so she could display her talent to an audience, persuading her parents to take part by the amount of money they could win.
Or she realised when her Mum talked about digging out the basement for her to live in that she was never going to escape and that made her angry enough to pull the Scanners stunt.

If Margaret kept Catherine more or less a prisoner then I guess she couldn't really kill her at home as serious questions would be asked of her. But on national TV anyone could see that she didn't actually touch Margaret. And it could hardly be proven that she murdered her via telepathic powers.

KillingMeDeftly · 21/05/2023 16:26

DP said "Scanners" about halfway through. I managed to figure out the previous week's twist but my initial guess for last week was that the people who were "frozen" would walk offstage and we'd suddenly hear a gunshot à la Squid Game!

KillingMeDeftly · 25/05/2023 22:37

Oh this is a bit grim 😬

Whydoesnothingwork · 25/05/2023 23:14

Oh that was very disturbing

This is the Spoilers Thread so c'mon...where was that pesky hare ?

Finally back on form. The best this season.

I loved it! Guessed the twist and that Catherine wasn't given any freedom which is why she wanted the money so she could get away. Very clever.

My interpretation was that Catherine was one of her mum's experiments (Margaret was a research scientist) and they were going on the game show to test her abilities in uncontrolled (by them) conditions, or perhaps just to scam the money (research scientists always need money - and if the research is unorthodox, then the money has to come from unorthodox places).

Margaret was certainly never going to let Catherine go - she was her crowning accomplishment as a scientist. And the talk of digging out the basement, the fact Catherine doesn't listen to music etc hints that maybe home is more like Eleven in Hawkins' Lab and less like Eleven with Hopper. Not that extreme - but certainly clinical.

Catherine saw the show as her chance to escape - by getting rid of her mother and using the money, all in one fell swoop - and took it. I'm not sure she even planned it until the game was underway.

I'm another one who appreciated the concept but didn't enjoy the episode that much. It was too good at what it was pretending to be - a lame quiz show like Pointless or The Chase and it was no more fun to watch than they are.

I haven't seen tonight's episode yet.

But I did know who the lonely hearts killer was from early on - she stayed alive too long to be a victim, so she had to be the killer!

KillingMeDeftly · 26/05/2023 08:52

Is that it for this season?

estellacruella · 26/05/2023 14:45

This weeks was classic no9... loved it it was a little disturbing to say the least but didnt guess that twist at all. X
