Reece shearmith and rob pemberton are geniuses,

I never see the twist coming .

The actors are amazing and renowned

The plots are beyond the imagination!

It's the modern day tales of the unexpected isn't it ?

Only recently discovered too. Think one of my favourites is the silent episode with the burglers. Steve Pemberton with the chilli's on his eyes. Makes me howl

Steve won a Bafta for his performance in Bernie Clinton's dressing room. Well deserved.

They've also done episode commentaries on you tube on some of the episodes. If you listen to them in order on the PsychoLeagueno9 channel.there is an overarching story that is very sinister 😲

Ooh I did not know about this.

ILoveNigelTufnel · 01/04/2023 00:02

It is so clever!
I’m still traumatised by The Twelve Days of Christine. I won’t ever watch that again. Utterly heartbreaking and it still plays on my mind all these years later. Very few things on tv affect me the way that did. I know it’s a story but even so.

AnyaMarx · 01/04/2023 00:06

Yeah 12 days of Christine was heartbreaking, when you realise what's actually happening 😞.

The twists I never ever see coming .

Yes - the dawning realisation of how awful it is. So well written and acted.

I love that every episode is totally different.
The twists are not ever what I expect. I love it. That and Black Mirror

EmmaEmerald · 01/04/2023 00:15

Oh how could I forget - Cold Comfort. Someone told me there was a twist. I thought, with about 20 seconds to go, there wasn't a twist....and yet....!

They are such superb writers. With Zanzibar, imagine coming up with that...did the story come first or did they think "let's do some work in iambic pentameter"?

AnyaMarx · 01/04/2023 00:15

I love black mirror too ! I had a web chat with (my crush !) Charlie Brooker when he was just seeing the seeds of the idea for black mirror. He told me he had something in the pipeline which turned out to be black mirror.

I also love the cameos - in both series !

I watched 12 days of Christine the other day and cried .

And I also found Bernie Clifton's dressing room really moving

And the one with the guy who finds the single shoe - the reason he became so obsessed with it was utterly heartbreaking.

There is nothing else this interesting on tv .

Zanzibar was brilliant! Loved the Shakespearean dialogue and farce !

Incredibly clever

Takes of the unexpected was their inspiration

Aww that's lovely.
I have a book of tales of unexpected,l stories, I've had it since I was teen.
Love inside number 9 but forgot about it, will start watching it again

LunaNorth · 01/04/2023 05:24

Do you always spot the hare?

ILoveNigelTufnel · 03/04/2023 16:49

What hare? I know nothing of this! I now need to watch them all again and look for it. (Or was that an April fools joke?! 😂)

mrsnjw · 03/04/2023 16:54

Just started these. How have I missed them? Quiet night in was hilarious. Onto episode 3 of series 1.

LunaNorth · 03/04/2023 18:14

They hide a hare ornament in every single episode!

Squiblet · 03/04/2023 20:05

Glad I'm not the only one who was totally floored by the 12 days of Christine! I can never watch that again. 😭

What I love about the show is the way it has its cake and eats it. In the Bernie Clifton episode, they're paying homage to the old music-hall acts and making you laugh at them even as they're reminding you how awful/racist/cheesy they were. And that one where they pastiche the 70s horror movie (shot on video) -- you can feel their affection for the genre even as they're mocking it. All the while giving you great storylines and character work.

The one with Sophie Okonedo is also fantastic - she's been so good in everything I've ever seen her in.

LunaNorth · 03/04/2023 20:17

The one with Helen McCrory is so disturbing, I love it.

OhVicIveFallen · 03/04/2023 20:36

The Devil of Christmas is so well done, it's my favourite.

Cheesymonster · 03/04/2023 21:46

Thank you so much for this thread! I had never heard of this show and was looking for something new. I have watched the first three episodes so far and will give the podcast recommended above a listen. This is why I love MN!!

ILoveNigelTufnel · 04/04/2023 08:02

LunaNorth · 03/04/2023 18:15

That’s brilliant - thanks! Now I have to watch them all again. What a shame 😂
Need to listen to the podcast as well.

weebarra · 04/04/2023 08:25

Watching these at the moment with 15 year old DS1, they're so good!

mrsnjw · 04/04/2023 09:57

I'm on bunny watch now 😀

CaveMum · 04/04/2023 10:11

In the "Inside Number 9" podcast each week they tell you where the hare was. It's presented by Reese Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton themselves, rather than being a fan-led podcast so you get lots of interesting facts about each story and their inspiration.

Wuthering Heist is one of my favourite episodes, it was fascinating (as I'm not a theatre/drama buff) to learn about it being based around an Italian acting style dating back to the 16th century.

Leftbutcameback · 04/04/2023 10:12

12 Days of Christine is the best 30 minutes of television Ive watched. I didn’t like LoG but I love Inside No 9, and the podcast (Inside Inside no9) is a great listen

CalmConfident · 04/04/2023 10:16

Virtually word for word what I was going to comment ☺️

CalmConfident · 04/04/2023 10:17

12 days of Christine, best 30 minutes of TV ever.
