Whoop. Grace is back. 3 x 2hr episodes

Grace season 3 continues the trend of adapting one novel from Peter James's Roy Grace book series (www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/grace-itv-books-future/) per episode, with the team continuing to adapt them in the order in which they were released.

This year's season contains three episodes, adapted from the following books:

• Dead Like You (2010) (www.amazon.co.uk/Dead-Like-You-Roy-Grace/dp/1509898859?tag=radtim0b-21&ascsubtag=radiotimes-1649127)

•
Dead Man's Grip (2011) (www.amazon.co.uk/Dead-Mans-Grip-Roy-Grace/dp/1509898883?tag=radtim0b-21&ascsubtag=radiotimes-1649127)

•
Not Dead Yet (2012) (www.amazon.co.uk/Not-Dead-Yet-Roy-Grace/dp/1509898905?tag=radtim0b-21&ascsubtag=radiotimes-1649127)

The synopsis for Dead Like You says: "A chilling event at the Royal Edward hotel on the night of Assistant Chief Constable, Alison Vosper’s leaving do forces Grace and Branson into a difficult position when they must investigate all hotel guests, including high ranking East Sussex police attendees.

"Something about the incident is causing a deep unease in Grace - he knows he’s seen this before. Has a sinister offender from Grace’s past dubbed the Brighton Prowler resurfaced or is this a copycat? As the attacks continue, Grace is convinced it’s the same man - and delving into the past may be the key to saving the next victim."

The synopsis for Dead Man's Grip says: "Grace and his team are called to the site of a tragic road traffic collision involving three vehicles: an articulated lorry, a car and a blue pickup truck.

An unexpected discovery at the scene, found on the victim, soon suggests there could be far more to this particular accident than meets the eye, sparking an unsettling chain of events which leads Grace and Branson on a tense, desperate game of cat and mouse through the city of Brighton to save an innocent life before time runs out."

Meanwhile, the synopsis for the final episode, Not Dead Yet, says: "A rising music star, Gaia Lafayette, receives the opportunity of a lifetime, and the same night that she excitedly announces to her devoted fans that she and her band are headed to LA, a shocking turn of events leads Grace and Branson to believe someone may be trying to harm her.

"With a perpetrator on the loose, Roy must deduce who of Gaia’s fanbase may be concealing sinister intentions. Meanwhile, a grisly discovery on a remote Sussex pig farm puts Roy under serious pressure, forcing him to split his team in order to investigate two impossible lines of enquiry."

I reckon the mole must be "junior pc man who isn't one of the main 4 coppers"

daffodilandtulip · 02/04/2023 21:14

Is the wife doing a REALLY good job of stalking him, and she's the mole?

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/04/2023 21:17

Hope Norman isn't a Baddie like in lod

OP posts:
burnoutbabe · 02/04/2023 21:21

Ohhh Norman and Bella!

I assumed that would not happen as Bella is so different to what I was expecting (I assumed they made the character gay to be fair)

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/04/2023 21:26

Why do they always call their name out and say police

Gives them a head start

Far better to get close then say their name

She just seemed weird at the beginning for no reason.

They should maybe not tell the person playing the guilty person until the end of filming.

I was shouting the same thing at the tv!

daffodilandtulip · 02/04/2023 21:59

I love Bella and Norman together!

burnoutbabe · 02/04/2023 22:08

So baby due! (Hence needing fresh air earlier)

And dna test -which either suggests ex isn't 100% sure who dad is OR she knows Grace will want proof - though who would trust "well I broke into your house and nicked some hairs" -you'd demand your own test anyway.

So it's more that ex isn't sure who dad is I think.

Clawdy · 02/04/2023 22:45

Did his ex have a key? And why did she take the bracelet?

burnoutbabe · 02/04/2023 23:13

I assume she was the viewer? But weird that Grace would let people in without an estate agent. Or that he wouldn't have changed the locks after she went.

We saw grace give sandy the bracelet earlier as a flashback I think.

duc748 · 02/04/2023 23:30

On the actual plot of this ep, IIJM, or was that a complete load of old bollix? Characters straight out of Central Casting, never believed in a word of any of them. And the stuff with the ex and the hairbrush seemed clumsily tacked on at the end. Norman and Bella was a nice touch, though.

DasAlteLeid · 02/04/2023 23:44

Definitely a load of old bollix @duc748 , first time I’ve watched it and I was giggling and tutting at the crapness. Red herring bereaved dad, sleazy red top reporter who might as well have had a ‘press’ ticket sticking out of his hat, psycho girl with a painful past and a grudge, dodgy band manager 🥱 CGI was appalling too with the flames, and how did they get out without so much as a singe mark on them?!

DasAlteLeid · 02/04/2023 23:47

Also show me a police unit with enough spare time and staff to set up an elaborate fake cordon/forensics site just to arrest some small-time hack for breaching data protection laws and I’ll show you a damning IPCC report!

Forestdweller11 · 03/04/2023 00:14

Mmmmm I usually like Grace but tonights episode left me thinking they'd jumped the shark.

Plus why did Anna (?) kill the fan, keep him stored in the freezer for 12 months then start spreading his body about? It did remind me of a line of duty scene with the body in the freezer but at least that was a chest one and not a small upright that you would struggle to get two bread loaves and a chicken into never mind a body.

Though it was maybe a bit far fetched - a senior commander would have to have had to sanction such a sting surely - the offence is a very serious one. I'm assuming the Grace character was correct in mentioning two years in gaol. The real puzzle is would the reporter have not backed off a little once Grace made it clear he was trying to find the leak?

butterpuffed · 03/04/2023 09:07

Grace's wife obviously isn't sure whether he's the father but why wait nearly eight years to do a DNA Test. As last night's was the final episode in the series , we're not going to find out unless there's a new series 🙄

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/04/2023 09:26

Yes the ex def isn't sure if he is the dad hence the hairbrush

He def knew someone had been in property and I wouid be annoyed with his friend for leaving place in a mess

Tidy up or get out

Esp as viewings

I hope he isn't then grace can have a family with Cleo

Time to buy a bigger house rather then move his record collection out of the study 😂

Grace had started proceedings to have her recorded as dead, last week. She saw it in a newspaper so I guess that's why it's prompted her to return. She probably wondered why now.

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/04/2023 17:22
