Whoop. Grace is back. 3 x 2hr episodes

Grace season 3 continues the trend of adapting one novel from Peter James's Roy Grace book series (www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/grace-itv-books-future/) per episode, with the team continuing to adapt them in the order in which they were released.

This year's season contains three episodes, adapted from the following books:

• Dead Like You (2010) (www.amazon.co.uk/Dead-Like-You-Roy-Grace/dp/1509898859?tag=radtim0b-21&ascsubtag=radiotimes-1649127)

•
Dead Man's Grip (2011) (www.amazon.co.uk/Dead-Mans-Grip-Roy-Grace/dp/1509898883?tag=radtim0b-21&ascsubtag=radiotimes-1649127)

•
Not Dead Yet (2012) (www.amazon.co.uk/Not-Dead-Yet-Roy-Grace/dp/1509898905?tag=radtim0b-21&ascsubtag=radiotimes-1649127)

The synopsis for Dead Like You says: "A chilling event at the Royal Edward hotel on the night of Assistant Chief Constable, Alison Vosper’s leaving do forces Grace and Branson into a difficult position when they must investigate all hotel guests, including high ranking East Sussex police attendees.

"Something about the incident is causing a deep unease in Grace - he knows he’s seen this before. Has a sinister offender from Grace’s past dubbed the Brighton Prowler resurfaced or is this a copycat? As the attacks continue, Grace is convinced it’s the same man - and delving into the past may be the key to saving the next victim."

The synopsis for Dead Man's Grip says: "Grace and his team are called to the site of a tragic road traffic collision involving three vehicles: an articulated lorry, a car and a blue pickup truck.

An unexpected discovery at the scene, found on the victim, soon suggests there could be far more to this particular accident than meets the eye, sparking an unsettling chain of events which leads Grace and Branson on a tense, desperate game of cat and mouse through the city of Brighton to save an innocent life before time runs out."

Meanwhile, the synopsis for the final episode, Not Dead Yet, says: "A rising music star, Gaia Lafayette, receives the opportunity of a lifetime, and the same night that she excitedly announces to her devoted fans that she and her band are headed to LA, a shocking turn of events leads Grace and Branson to believe someone may be trying to harm her.

"With a perpetrator on the loose, Roy must deduce who of Gaia’s fanbase may be concealing sinister intentions. Meanwhile, a grisly discovery on a remote Sussex pig farm puts Roy under serious pressure, forcing him to split his team in order to investigate two impossible lines of enquiry."

But now there can be a whole episode of "is it his child" "will he leave Cleo for reappeared wife?"

burnoutbabe · 27/03/2023 08:12

I can do without all the main characters home stories. Give them wives /kids etc but no domestic drama. I don't care much for Glenn and ari's marriage either.

butterpuffed · 27/03/2023 08:22

I agree , it's enough to see the complications in Grace's private life let alone that of his colleague . Also I must have wrongly thought Grace's wife left a year or so ago so was a bit surprised to see a little boy calling her 'mum' !!!

This week's episode was disappointing, very far fetched and so many characters , it made the story confusing .

Yes why do writers/producers do this??? We aren’t interested! Well I’m not anyway - I’m there for the story not the detectives drama.

burnoutbabe · 27/03/2023 08:46

In books then back stories as more space to cover more plot points snd the personality of the other detectives. But in a 2 hour show (less adverts) you don't have that time. Just stick to main plot to avoid confusing people.

Who was Wesley? (Student lady was sending drugs to him, was he even investigated?)

She was drunk and swerved to avoid hitting him, I thibk sending him also swerving into path of blue truck that hit him and sent him under the big truck

So in effect she caused the whole chain I think.

I thought I heard someone say that a witness claimed the cyclist came round a corner on the wrong side of the road thereby causing the chain of events.

In episode 1 Grace said that he was going to have Sandy officially declared dead. Under UK law 7 years has to have elapsed before this can be done.

duc748 · 27/03/2023 11:53

Agree this was a rubbish story-line; clichéd American characters straight out of Central Casting. And yes, what happened about Wesley? I don't care about his private life either. I don't mind that in some series, not not in this one. Anyway, Grace/John Simm is a bit dull IMO.

Must've missed that bit then !

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/03/2023 13:21

Yes she's been dead /missing 7yrs

That's a long time to keep her car. Then crushed. I would have taken the £1k offered. But I'm poor. He's not

So his friend ems wife had an affair but he gets kicked out of the house

I would have said bollocks You go

Every time I see a scene where the bereaved husband sniffs an old scarf or something, I think of Smell the Glove by Spinal Tap! 😀

KrasiTime · 27/03/2023 20:14

Didn’t particularly enjoy this episode. Mafia was too far fetched. Imo.

Any ideas whose is tipping off Spinelli? Think it’s possibly the Pew guy? But maybe too obvious. Don’t understand why Sandy would disappear for so long.

burnoutbabe · 27/03/2023 20:48

I reckon press tipper off person is the no name 5th officer in the department (think they said " we have the footage here") everyone else has a name but them.

So there but not important.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/03/2023 22:48

Yes someone is def revealing sources to the newspaper man

So is the boy Grace's?

Couldn't tell how old he was!

It would be a spoiler to say on here whether he is or isn’t.

However, if he is then the casting team need to do better as there is no way a child of Grace and his missing wife would look like that boy.

diddl · 29/03/2023 17:49

It would be a spoiler to say on here whether he is or isn’t.

I was speculating.

Do some posters know for sure either way then?

If you've read the books then yes, you'd know.

burnoutbabe · 29/03/2023 18:41

Into l based on the child being around 8-12 so right time frame to be graces child and that the mum said she wanted yes the boy to meet Grace it is likely his child (to create drama with Cleo)

If it was a much younger child there isn't much drama there. I suppose if the child was say black and 8-12 then a past affair with Glenn May be an option (but not the case here -and I know in real life the race of a child doesn't indicate the parent but this is simple tv land so the simplest solution is best -

So either a child of grace OR he is infertile and she was shagging around, wanted to keep the child so had to disappear. Though second option, Grace can just say "oh well, doesn't matter now, good luck with it" and no actual ongoing drama.

diddl · 29/03/2023 18:46

Of course!

Was forgetting that it's based on books.😊

diddl · 29/03/2023 18:51

So either a child of grace OR he is infertile and she was shagging around, wanted to keep the child so had to disappear.

The 2nd option would seem to make more sense.

Well hopefuly we'll find out at some point why she disappeared, where she has been & if Bruno is Grace's son!

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/03/2023 19:53

Those also know they change what happens in books

Yes I do know

Rosula · 02/04/2023 18:05

It does seem to be a bit of a waste cramming an entire book into one episode. They lose so much of the plot that way.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/04/2023 18:55

Last one tonight

Till I guess they do s4 next year maybe
