6 part drama starts Friday nights

The drama introduces plain speaking, no nonsense DI Colette Cunningham, whose fearless approach to policing has earned her the respect of her Merseyside Police Serious Crime Squad colleagues.

Career driven and dedicated, Colette is unflappable and an absolute force of nature. Until she takes a call from Garda Sergeant Luke Byrne in Dublin.
The body of a young woman has been found and Colette is listed as the next of kin.

The name of the victim means nothing to Colette so she continues to efficiently go about her day job.

Persisting with his enquiry, the young officer calls again and begins to describe the young woman rendering Colette speechless.
She takes the next ferry to Dublin to identify the body of her missing daughter, Kate.

She’s experienced this exact situation a million times, but never from this side.
Kate left home 20 years ago aged 16, and clearly didn’t want to be found.Always a police woman and with 30 years of experience kicking in, Colette has some searching
questions.
But is she prepared for what she finds?

Acclaimed actress Paula Malcomson (The Hunger Games trilogy, Ray Donovan, Deadwood) will take the lead role in Redemption, a six part drama jointly commissioned by ITV and Virgin Media Television, Ireland in association with Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland.

Yes it really is!

Just watched the first episode and gripped already. Thought it was but off that collette would've been allowed access to her daughters house and then put in the position of breaking the news to the kids. How did the police know she was telling the truth when she said they were estranged etc. Surely they would've handled telling the kids when they located them. All seems quite gentle so far and feel it will get very dark soon. But liking it. Although all the dodgy accents are very distracting.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/03/2023 00:17

Guess as she was next of kin

Yes this was one of the numerous things that didn't sit right with me. Surely the local police would have made an attempt to contact the children and assigned a flo to break the news and support them, particularly as it was evident Collette had no relationship with them?

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/03/2023 11:33

Yes did seem harsh that she had to tell them

Surely a police officer would have been weighed to their house and told them

Rather than hunt her fish. Her gave to travel there and mum still missing

🤣

butterpuffed · 19/03/2023 14:12

That didn't sit right with me either [the children , not the hunt her fish 😅] . I'm sure they wouldn't have given Colette keys to the house without informing them that someone they'd never met would be there and not telling them their mother had died .

I'm getting myself in a mess with what I'm watching, especially when I've got a couple of things conflicting and seek out catch up TV. I put this on ITVX and totally forgot it defaulted to the latest episode and watched about 15 minutes thinking 'this makes no sense'

Now I can't remember where we're supposed to be up to on a couple of series. Perhaps I need a wall planner 😜

butterpuffed · 19/03/2023 22:11

So relieved to discover I'm not the only one who does things like this 😅

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/03/2023 23:39

@martinisforeveryone e1 was Friday

E2 is next Friday the 24th

No more fish for me 😂

Must proof read. But I type and post

Enjoying it but agree it was odd that she was there in the house to break the news to the kids, a complete stranger to them. Always loved "Down By The Salley Gardens" so lovely to hear it.

daffodilandtulip · 22/03/2023 21:58

They didn't even need to make her Liverpudlian. She could have just been Irish moved to Liverpool. That would even make sense that her daughter ran back there then as well.

Agree she wouldn't have been just left to the house and the news breaking.

But I do like it. Although is there really much to solve?

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/03/2023 22:47

Well they said was suicide

Obv wasn't

She knew she was on thin ice with the stolen drugs so changed her will /next of kin

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 22/03/2023 22:49

I think she changed her next of kin because she knew she was going to die, they were going to get her

purpleme12 · 22/03/2023 22:49

I thought she was Irish in the programme actually!

Jellyheadbang · 23/03/2023 02:42

Collette is beautiful. I think her face/ features are very 'irish'.
She also reminds me of jenny from Forrest gump...
I also binged, nothing useful add

daffodilandtulip · 23/03/2023 06:48

Ohhhh 🤦🏼‍♀️. I was just thinking she'd found the drugs so proved she was a dealer, end of story. Not like me to not questions everything 🤣
