If I like trying, motherland and catastrophe...

Just finished series 3 of trying on Apple TV and really loved it. The characters were brilliant and it had me hooked. I also love motherland and catastrophe as my other favourites. Other things I've watched are; the let down, Alma’s not normal, there she goes, the duchess, gameface and Mandy (I had lots of time on my hands during mat leave). Any other suggestions of things along the lines of my top 3? I prefer UK shows rather than American/Australian as I often find them OTT and difficult to get in to. I couldn't get into schitts creek, working moms or this way up.

Breeders, if you liked motherland I think that's a good call.

Am I Being Unreasonable? A bit far fetched at times, but it's had me chuckling and Daisy Mae Cooper is really quite funny.

Yes I watched about half of this, but never ended up finishing the series, thought it was quite odd!

Have you watched Mum?

KittytheHare · 10/03/2023 11:45

Bad sisters?

Indiaplain · 10/03/2023 13:57

This Way Up on channel was v good

Riverlee · 10/03/2023 14:01

Loved Trying.

’The Other One’ was my first thought, about someone discovering her dad had a second family on her fathers death. Both daughters had the same name.

Indiaplain · 10/03/2023 14:02

Oh just seen you said you couldn't get into this way up!
Love Life is American but surprisingly good. Big Boys on channel 4 was also a good watch and Feel Good.

HedwigIsMyDemon · 10/03/2023 14:03

Bad Sisters is brilliant 😍

Xrays · 10/03/2023 14:03

Ted Lasso?

Bad Sisters, Breeders and Back To Life!

Some easy watching:
An older comedy/drama series, Pulling - it was written by and stars Sharon Horgan from Catastrophe. IIRC it was originally on BBC3 but I think Amazon Prime have it now (about single women though not mums).

American but like @Indiaplain I enjoyed LoveLife (iplayer) Drama
Also American - Search Party (Amazon prime?)Dramedy (no children in it)

UK - Maternal ITVX A drama about women doctors coming back to work from maternity leave.
The Split (iplayer) drama about divorce lawyer(s) and their families and clients

bad sisters definitely!

I liked the Let Down on Netflix but it’s Australian although very watchable.

BluetheBear · 10/03/2023 20:27

I just watched a British one on Netflix about a woman who had just been released from prison. Can't remember what it's called but was good

Annabananna1 · 10/03/2023 20:28

Everything I know about Love.

(But read it first!)

Cherrysherbet · 10/03/2023 20:35

A pp has recommended ‘Mum’. I loved this, it was funny and the characters are great.

Pretty sure that’s “Back to Life” and I agree, it’s good

Working moms on Netflix

User129867588 · 10/03/2023 20:41

I just re read your OP 😂 - it took me a few episodes to get into working moms

Rinkydinkydoodle · 10/03/2023 20:48

I have watched Catastrophe so much I feel like I know the lines off by heart. I really liked Pulling, which another PP mentioned, Sharon Horgan is so utterly relatable yet horrible in it 😂Gameface with Roisin Conaghty is quite good, it feels like the same universe as Motherland and Catastrophe IYSWIM

Know you said not US but I also loved Insecure almost as much as Catastrophe. It’s quite different from your faves, in that it’s about younger black women, and not particularly about motherhood, but it’s also really well-observed, the acting is brilliant and it’s hard to watch at times (for good reasons). Working Moms is also good, it goes some genuinely shocking places (think Canadian Motherland). Would also recommend Girls if you haven’t seen it - I’m two decades older than the stars and it’s absolutely bloody brilliant.

Definitely Breeders

OwlDoll · 10/03/2023 21:10

Here We Go with Katherine Parkinson, Alison Steadman and one of the Ghosts/Horrible Histories team was very funny.
