Me! I was a huge Wham! fan in the early 80s.

bizzywiththefizzy · 06/03/2023 21:33

Thanks for this !

Ozcando · 06/03/2023 21:34

Damn I completely forgot….absolutely loved George Michael …shall watch on catch up tomorrow.

Elderflower14 · 06/03/2023 21:38

I was more a Duranie than a Whamie... I was at an all girls boarding school and shared a dorm with a girl who played Fantastic by Wham over and over again so I got it ingrained in my brain!

I did like Duran Duran too but fancied George Michael like mad then!

I'm watching. Loved George. Young Guns was the anthem of my younger teen years. Reminded me of youth clubs hearing it again.

Creamcrackersandricecakes · 06/03/2023 21:52

This is heartbreaking. All those poor men outed by the scum tabloids in the 80's and 90's. Lives ruined just to sell 'newspapers'. It's sickening. 😢

littlbrowndog · 06/03/2023 22:06

Bloody missed it and I love George will watch on catch up

Elderflower14 · 06/03/2023 22:11

Second part tomorrow...
It seemed almost like George was Jekyl and Hyde... The Jekyl side doing all the things he was arrested for and the Hyde side donating money to charities and paying for the ladies IVF treatment...

I love how he refused to hide away after being 'outed' and instead went out for a nice dinner past all the waiting photographers!

That was class.

MrBusiness · 06/03/2023 22:14

I’ll have to watch it on catch up, I was so upset when he died 😢

RampantIvy · 06/03/2023 22:31

I missed this. Will watch it on catch up.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 07/03/2023 00:24

Shocking that it was still so difficult in the late 90s.

Very grateful to have grown up in Brighton so gayness was commonplace and just accepted from about the late 60s.

VooVooV · 07/03/2023 00:34

Really interesting documentary - but shocking the language the tabloids used (use?) ‘shameful’, ‘fallen idol’ etc… and the journos trying to justify their hounding of GM (and other celebs). At least one had the ‘decency’ to acknowledge it was despicable they were effectively trying to destroy them.

Eightiesgirl · 07/03/2023 00:36

I loved George, he had a heart of pure gold. He was such a gorgeous looking man and could have had anyone he wanted. He had a lovely boyfriend, Kenny, waiting at home for him, so why on earth was he hanging around and carrying on like that in public park toilets and what if a child had walked in to use the toilets?

FYI I think you’ve got this the wrong way round: Mr Hyde was Dr Jekyll’s evil alter ego, who emerged after Dr Jekyll swallowed a potion created in his lab. That is, Mr Hyde would not have been a philanthropist!

magicstar1 · 07/03/2023 00:59

I watched both parts tonight….he second one is available on All4 now.

Loved it. So talented, such a shame.

nicetoseetgesunsout · 07/03/2023 07:55

I met George in Ibiza 88 - lovely fella. The way gay men and women were treated in the 80s is barbaric. Nice to see Fat Tony, still see him sometimes (he's not fat)

Wishihadanalgorithm · 08/03/2023 14:05

I’ve just watched both episodes. I loved GM - he really did have a good heart. Watching all the stuff about the press at the time brings back the horror that gay people faced. When he appeared on Parky and just said it as it was, utterly brilliant. No need to hide indeed.

Lysianthus · 08/03/2023 20:53

Really enjoyed the documentary but have now been pulled in to watching Outed and am shocked at what a complete piece of crap Stuart White is/was. It's breathtaking that he's still working. And that he was happy to participate and declare his total homophobia and disregard for the way the world has moved on. He was the US editor of the News of the screws. Thank god we've all evolved.

Crumpetdisappointment · 09/03/2023 19:29

watching Outed, i thought that was what you were referring to
i bought Faith in 1989, such a brilliant album

so sad that he died
