I've just finished watching it. I was a massive Whammie back in the '80s and used to write Mrs. Tayto Michael on my school copies
. I was surprised when I heard about his arrest and the implications i.e. that he was gay, but I can totally understand why he had to hide his sexuality.
I didn't know about his partner (Anselmo) and that he had died from AIDS. So sad that he couldn't acknowledge that relationship or even go to his funeral.
I was struck by how many TV interviews he did after the arrest. It must have been such a relief not having to hide away any more and being able to live without the fear of exposure.
As for the tabloids. Well, they're parasites but that hardly comes as news to anyone. I'm so glad the revelations didn't destroy his career. They might well have done if the arrest had happened maybe ten years earlier. He was such a gorgeous and talented man. His premature death was a massive loss to the world and to all who knew and loved him.
I found the timeline a little hard to follow - so much jumping backwards and forwards. I'd have enjoyed it more if they had shown the events in chronological order.
@Anjo2011 sorry now that I didn't watch the Paula Yates programme.
