I know there is an unforgotten thread going but likely that will hold spoilers for those who binge so i was asked if I would do one for tv pace aka weekly as we all know blondes doesn’t binge 😂

if you can watch weekly and went to chat about each episode and what may happen /who the killer is etc then all welcome

if you want to binge as all will be out 10pm on xitv then post on the other thread

The new investigation happens after the shocking ending of the fourth series of Unforgotten (www.whattowatch.com/watching-guides/everything-you-need-to-know-about-unforgotten-on-netflix) when DCI Cassie Stuart played by Nicola Walker (www.whattowatch.com/features/unforgotten-star-nicola-walker-teases-the-season-4-cold-case) was killed in a horrific road accident.

Not only did Cassie's sudden death leave her family emotionally shattered, her police colleagues are hurting too, not least her detective partner DI Sunny Khan (Sanjeev Bhaskar) with who
m she'd worked with on a number of baffling cold cases.

Now Sunny has a new sleuthing partner for the new six-part season 5, as Cassie has now

been replaced by DCI Jessica James played by Sinéad Keenan, (www.whattowatch.com/features/unforgottens-sanjeev-bhaskar-and-sinead-keenan-on-being-tvs-next-big-cop-duo)

Unforgotten series 5 begins just before DCI Jessica James’ first day in her new job when there's an unforeseen and devastating event involving her family life. Despite this, Jessica is determined to make a good first impression with her new colleagues, but will Jess be in the right frame of mind to fit in with and inspire the team?

The ghost of much-loved former colleague Cassie Stuart looms large over the team and Jess knows there will be big shoes for her to fill. This will need resolve, professionalism and a great spirit if she's to live up to her much-admired and respected predecessor.

The first case for Jess and her team is the discovery of human remains in a newly renovated period property in Hammersmith, West London. But it seems the body has been there a very long time — this looks like a murder dating back to the 1930s, but could the body been disposed of in more recent times?

There are baffling questions that need answering and Jess will need to be at the top of her game.

Can she work with DS Sunny Khan to work out what has happened?
Sanjeev Bhaskar explains: “A body that is found bricked into a chimney breast, stuffed up a chimney, when some renovations taking place, but they have no idea how old this body is, or who it is.

Ini8ally, Jess comes in and says, “Look, we’re not going to do these old cases unless there’s some sort of present impact, because it takes up resources.” So he has to convince her otherwise. And once again, in a similar structural way to the previous series, it is about these disparate antagonists, possible suspects.

Loved Cassie (love NW in anything) but did not like Annika and wish she had stayed with Unforgotten. Loved Sunny's comeback about being asked - nay, begged - to take Cassie's role. felt sorry for the team having to walk around on eggshells not sure if they should, could or would continue investigating this case. But I also felt really sorry for new Boss coming in to start with a new team following the death of their previous Boss, right after the gut-punch delivered by her horrible husband. Vile man. Refusing to discuss and just walking out, knowing exactly what he'd done and how he'd left her reeling. I too suspect it may be the sister he's had/having the affair with.

As for the woman discovered in the chimney, she looked awfully tiny to me and I wondered if she was or could be Asian, perhaps trafficked and made use of by Lord thingy and his cronies who may then have instructed an underling to get rid of her and they used the vacant house to stash the body. The difference in period and thickness of the plaster was an odd reference to be sure.

Only watching weekly so likely wrong about the sister.

Saw Sunny actor Sanjeev Bhaskar interviewed on the One Show the other night and he was asked about Sunny's backpack and what's actually in there. He said he was asked to choose a bag for his character and opted for the backpack because it was easy to grab and suited Sunny's on-the-go vibe, but that during the first season he told the props department that he felt it looked empty so would they put something in it to make it more realistic, though not so heavy that he couldn't carry it. They did so but didn't tell him what they had put in it, and he didn't know until he looked at the end of the episode's filming, when he found all sorts of things stuffed in there - apparently its now become a tradition and he opens his backback live so that fans get to see along with himself what's actually in the backpack - things like a doll's house, a book of Dolly Parton quotes, a she-wee and some saucy charades, tins of sardines to selfie sticks, and poop bags to cut glass champagne flutes. Bhaskar doesn't ever know what he's going to get each week, so the big reveal is always a sight to behold. Not sure if all the backpack reveals are here but if interested you can do a search...

Series 1 - Tom Courtney and Frances Tomelty, just breathtakingly good, nearly finished

That series was by far the best of the five. The current one is pretty dull and none of the acting comes close to some of the performances in series 1.

CaptainMyCaptain · 06/03/2023 07:47

The back pack thing was brilliant. Thanks.

I'm afraid I gave in and binged.

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/03/2023 11:55

@Southeastdweller
and now Mark Bonnar in S2, outstanding 😢, I’m enjoying the catch up and looking forward to S5

SydneyCarton · 06/03/2023 13:54

@TwoMonthsOff and @Southeastdweller My favourite bit of S1 was Hannah Gordon and Gemma Jones saying fuck 😂I was horrified! I also liked “Thanks for seeing us, Mr Cross”, “Please, call me Sir Philip…” Grin

Also catching up with the past series; I’ve watched 1 and 2 a couple of times each but 3 and 4 only once.

TwoMonthsOff · 06/03/2023 18:51

@SydneyCarton
Trevor Eve was magnificent too, both series 1 & 2 are flawless IMO, I got confused re. S4 too many people but will really be watching it again and I loved the man living in his camper van in Bristol in S3, he was also fantastic

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/03/2023 21:02

Here we go

EdieLedwell · 06/03/2023 21:06

Riveted already!

aramox1 · 06/03/2023 21:12

Can't fit Paris guy in at all. He's desperate for a baby.

SydneyCarton · 06/03/2023 21:14

That’s Maz’s husband from Maternal having coffee with Lord Whatsit, isn’t it?

EdieLedwell · 06/03/2023 21:34

Jesus Sunny!

SydneyCarton · 06/03/2023 21:36

I mean, give her a bloody hug at least Hmm

EdieLedwell · 06/03/2023 21:37

Exactly

SydneyCarton · 06/03/2023 21:41

So is the victim either the daughter or sister of Ebele (restaurant owner)?

EdieLedwell · 06/03/2023 21:42

Ooh maybe?

Also, sister still dodging Jess.

SydneyCarton · 06/03/2023 21:46

And could Jay be the victim’s son? Right age

SydneyCarton · 06/03/2023 21:49

Why hasn’t Jess changed her husband’s contact details to Cheating Fuckface?

EdieLedwell · 06/03/2023 21:55

SydneyCarton · 06/03/2023 21:46

And could Jay be the victim’s son? Right age

I'd say so

EdieLedwell · 06/03/2023 21:56

LA could be Lord Anthony?

SydneyCarton · 06/03/2023 21:57

EdieLedwell · 06/03/2023 21:56

LA could be Lord Anthony?

Ooh, good shout! Wondering how he fits in. I assume Paris guy was one of the squatters

EdieLedwell · 06/03/2023 22:03

Tony's definitely atoning for something for the last 5 years

SydneyCarton · 06/03/2023 22:06

Isn’t Paris guy Tony’s son? If he killed Precious (deliberately or by accident), he’d call his powerful rich father for help. Lord Tony pulls some strings (like he’s doing now with his date rapist grandson), and hey presto, the squat gets closed down, everyone gets evicted and the house remains empty while the court case rumbles on…..

Bunionbabe · 06/03/2023 22:07

No way would they agree for Ebele to view her daughter's body. She's been dead for 7 years!

aramox1 · 06/03/2023 22:10

Surely Tony is Precious's father? Had sex w Ebele when she was drunk that's why he was so outraged at his grandson?
