I know there is an unforgotten thread going but likely that will hold spoilers for those who binge so i was asked if I would do one for tv pace aka weekly as we all know blondes doesn’t binge 😂

if you can watch weekly and went to chat about each episode and what may happen /who the killer is etc then all welcome

if you want to binge as all will be out 10pm on xitv then post on the other thread

The new investigation happens after the shocking ending of the fourth series of Unforgotten (www.whattowatch.com/watching-guides/everything-you-need-to-know-about-unforgotten-on-netflix) when DCI Cassie Stuart played by Nicola Walker (www.whattowatch.com/features/unforgotten-star-nicola-walker-teases-the-season-4-cold-case) was killed in a horrific road accident.

Not only did Cassie's sudden death leave her family emotionally shattered, her police colleagues are hurting too, not least her detective partner DI Sunny Khan (Sanjeev Bhaskar) with who
m she'd worked with on a number of baffling cold cases.

Now Sunny has a new sleuthing partner for the new six-part season 5, as Cassie has now

been replaced by DCI Jessica James played by Sinéad Keenan, (www.whattowatch.com/features/unforgottens-sanjeev-bhaskar-and-sinead-keenan-on-being-tvs-next-big-cop-duo)

Unforgotten series 5 begins just before DCI Jessica James’ first day in her new job when there's an unforeseen and devastating event involving her family life. Despite this, Jessica is determined to make a good first impression with her new colleagues, but will Jess be in the right frame of mind to fit in with and inspire the team?

The ghost of much-loved former colleague Cassie Stuart looms large over the team and Jess knows there will be big shoes for her to fill. This will need resolve, professionalism and a great spirit if she's to live up to her much-admired and respected predecessor.

The first case for Jess and her team is the discovery of human remains in a newly renovated period property in Hammersmith, West London. But it seems the body has been there a very long time — this looks like a murder dating back to the 1930s, but could the body been disposed of in more recent times?

There are baffling questions that need answering and Jess will need to be at the top of her game.

Can she work with DS Sunny Khan to work out what has happened?
Sanjeev Bhaskar explains: “A body that is found bricked into a chimney breast, stuffed up a chimney, when some renovations taking place, but they have no idea how old this body is, or who it is.

Ini8ally, Jess comes in and says, “Look, we’re not going to do these old cases unless there’s some sort of present impact, because it takes up resources.” So he has to convince her otherwise. And once again, in a similar structural way to the previous series, it is about these disparate antagonists, possible suspects.

Couldn't agree more, @LineDriedLaundry . As you say, much better done in previous series.

Commenters on the Guardian thread are saying the 2 bullet-holes in Joe’s skull are entry and exit wounds. But wouldn’t the forensics woman have made that clear if that were the case? A bullet exit-wound isn’t exactly a ‘hole’ if I understand these things correctly, more like a big chunk missing….

And they were next to each other!

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 06/04/2023 13:16

I found this series so disappointing. I think all the storylines with the detective team were brilliantly written - Jessie fitting into the team, Sunny's relationship breakdown, Jessie's marriage breakdown - but the murder storyline was all over the place. There were so many interesting threads that were just dropped.

Precious was in a CULT and yet it had basically no impact on the story.

Episode 1 sets up the tension of Jessie wanting to keep costs down, but from Episode 2 it's dropped and nobody mentions funds again. Even sending Sunny to Paris and the other guy (forgot his name) on a day trip to Wales.

The upskirting storyline was bizarre and didn't fit in with Karol's characterisation at all. And why did he lie to his mum about being in a relationship?

I didn't like the final twist either. I've liked all the others.

I don't know... I think they tried to fit too much into six episodes.

Good post @HeyDemonsItsYaGirl .Articulates my reaction .Though I was too bemused by it all to put a coherent post together !

Gothambutnotahamster · 08/04/2023 23:30

I agree @HeyDemonsItsYaGirl - you've summed up my thoughts well.

Pemba · 09/04/2023 13:15

I agree, it was really disappointing, I mean the murder story. I like Jessie and her relationship with Sunny seems to be developing well. I agree that the slow hand clap as done by Jessie during the suspect interview was unrealistic and jarring.

Is it different writers this time, does anyone know? It used to be such a quality drama, and I don't think that was just down to Nicola Walker, much as we love her!

SydneyCarton · 09/04/2023 14:36

I’ve just watched the first episode of Dreamland and the actress who plays Ebele is in it looking a lot happier and more relaxed!

BooseysMom · 09/04/2023 14:54

Episode 1 sets up the tension of Jessie wanting to keep costs down, but from Episode 2 it's dropped and nobody mentions funds again. Even sending Sunny to Paris and the other guy (forgot his name) on a day trip to Wales.

That's a really good point about the funding issue suddenly not mattering any more.

Yes I agree with pps that it was awful. Too clunky and I didn't care enough about any of the characters..except maybe Ebele's chef partner who she beat up, but he had no real part in it apart from being saddled with Ebele!

UNFORGOTTEN

ITV has confirmed a sixth series of Unforgotten starring Sanjeev Bhaskar and Sinéad Keenan.

Fresh from the end of the series five on Monday night, a brand new run of six episodes have been confirmed.

Sanjeev Bhaskar and Sinéad Keenan will both reprise their roles as DI Sunil ‘Sunny’ Khan and DCI Jess James. Their characters have had a complex on-screen relationship that began with tension and conflict, but ultimately developed into a positive dynamic, promising an exciting new partnership for fans to look forward to.

Series six will once again follow the pair as they investigate more cold cases and unsolved crimes from the past, unravelling secrets and unearthing buried truths along the way.

Further casting for the new series will be announced at the time of production

Unforgotten, which first aired in 2015, is currently the most watched programme on ITV this year.

Each of the new six episodes will be written by series creator Chris Lang who is also known for his work on Innocent, The Hookup Plan, Dark Heart, A Mother’s Son and the recently BAFTA nominated ITV drama The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe.
---

Not really anything we didn't know except confirmation of the two main characters and all the writing for the next series.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/04/2023 11:28

Let's hope the conclusion of s6 as and when is better than 5

Yes a bit less clunky lecturing, some more likeable characters and a bit more believability would definitely help. That ending was a ridiculous mess.

I can see where you're coming from 😮

The series hasn't finished yet on Irish tv @Blondeshavemorefun.
I do find all the different characters a tad confusing but know it will be all tied up in the end.
I don't get the NW love.
She's ok.
I think she's the same in all her roles.

LadyEloise1 · 19/07/2023 08:40

duc748 · 29/03/2023 20:40

I just see Robbie Coltrane.

I agree.

LadyEloise1 · 19/07/2023 08:55

I've just finished watching it.
I agree with @JemimaTab who wrote "...I also seriously doubt a senior police officer like Jess would have had that rant in the interview room - that seemed incredibly unprofessional ..... the suspect's solicitor would have been down like a ton of bricks....."
Mind you, knowing what some police officers have been charged with lately nothing should surprise us.

Jay's girlfriend telling him he needs to sort his life out - oh the irony. Smile

LadyEloise1 · 19/07/2023 09:01

I too felt there was a lot of political point scoring in the new series.
