I know there is an unforgotten thread going but likely that will hold spoilers for those who binge so i was asked if I would do one for tv pace aka weekly as we all know blondes doesn’t binge 😂

if you can watch weekly and went to chat about each episode and what may happen /who the killer is etc then all welcome

if you want to binge as all will be out 10pm on xitv then post on the other thread

The new investigation happens after the shocking ending of the fourth series of Unforgotten (www.whattowatch.com/watching-guides/everything-you-need-to-know-about-unforgotten-on-netflix) when DCI Cassie Stuart played by Nicola Walker (www.whattowatch.com/features/unforgotten-star-nicola-walker-teases-the-season-4-cold-case) was killed in a horrific road accident.

Not only did Cassie's sudden death leave her family emotionally shattered, her police colleagues are hurting too, not least her detective partner DI Sunny Khan (Sanjeev Bhaskar) with who
m she'd worked with on a number of baffling cold cases.

Now Sunny has a new sleuthing partner for the new six-part season 5, as Cassie has now

been replaced by DCI Jessica James played by Sinéad Keenan, (www.whattowatch.com/features/unforgottens-sanjeev-bhaskar-and-sinead-keenan-on-being-tvs-next-big-cop-duo)

Unforgotten series 5 begins just before DCI Jessica James’ first day in her new job when there's an unforeseen and devastating event involving her family life. Despite this, Jessica is determined to make a good first impression with her new colleagues, but will Jess be in the right frame of mind to fit in with and inspire the team?

The ghost of much-loved former colleague Cassie Stuart looms large over the team and Jess knows there will be big shoes for her to fill. This will need resolve, professionalism and a great spirit if she's to live up to her much-admired and respected predecessor.

The first case for Jess and her team is the discovery of human remains in a newly renovated period property in Hammersmith, West London. But it seems the body has been there a very long time — this looks like a murder dating back to the 1930s, but could the body been disposed of in more recent times?

There are baffling questions that need answering and Jess will need to be at the top of her game.

Can she work with DS Sunny Khan to work out what has happened?
Sanjeev Bhaskar explains: “A body that is found bricked into a chimney breast, stuffed up a chimney, when some renovations taking place, but they have no idea how old this body is, or who it is.

Ini8ally, Jess comes in and says, “Look, we’re not going to do these old cases unless there’s some sort of present impact, because it takes up resources.” So he has to convince her otherwise. And once again, in a similar structural way to the previous series, it is about these disparate antagonists, possible suspects.

Guessing lord and Hayley mills are parents of the dead woman ?

I think so. Maybe the drug addict guy is her son?

daffodilandtulip · 28/02/2023 06:55

Love sunny putting her in her place - "they offered it me multiple times, practically begged me".

bendmeoverbackwards · 28/02/2023 07:22

Really enjoyed the first episode. But did anyone else struggle to hear some of the dialogue? I had to turn the volume up but some of the characters seemed quite mumbly.

BooseysMom · 28/02/2023 07:23

Blondeshavemorefun
Please can I join? I loves all the previous series and prefer to wait rather than binge..old school i know but gives you something to look forward to.
Thanks for the great intro.
😊

AreYouShittingMe · 28/02/2023 07:39

I really enjoyed it.
Thought it was very clever poor Jess finding out her husband is having an affair on the morning of her new job. She knew how Cassie was loved, so was probably very nervous.
Jess might be a bitch or she might just be hurting and therefore being less compassionate than usual. Makes for an interesting dynamic between her and Sunny, and the rest of the team.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/02/2023 07:58

@daffodilandtulip yes me too. Guess he didn't want to take the job as treading on Cassie toes or too painful

@bendmeoverbackwards I'm semi deaf anyway so always have subtitles which mr blondes moans about but actually says they are helpful

@BooseysMom - more then welcome to join old school of non bingers 😂

I love the weekly wait and the chat of other people's musings and things that I might have not noticed

Not much to go on but I guess Lord Tony or Emma could be the child of the woman whose corpse was discovered.

Going to watch the 2nd episode now.

Please keep it to yourself, then dweller

I have just re-discovered the joys of week-by-week viewing, and don't want it spoilt.

Cheers.

Anyone else a bit starstruck by the appearance of Hayley Mills? One of my all time favourites, who'd have thought she'd turn up on itv on a Monday night?

Bsmirched · 28/02/2023 09:00

My guess is that all the 'suspects' that we've met will have been the squatters that were mentioned early on.

I can't see Lord Tony being a squatter.

BIWI · 28/02/2023 09:22

I'm Shock by @AnyFucker! Of course we wouldn't condone bashing up the furniture - but he did it in the men's loos - not when there was a woman/his wife or partner there.

And from someone who is normally pretty calm, it was a clear indication of his anger and frustration about having the role that he (and his team) are set up for - it's called The Unforgotten after all! - taken away by this new woman ON DAY ONE of her arrival. All of which compounds his grief at losing Cassie.

Wasn't there a growing romantic attachment between him and Cassie, that they both swerved away from as well? Adds another layer to the whole reaction.

I always felt that his commitment to his fiancée was a rational decision he made, more than an emotional one. I wonder if their relationship will survive?

I was shocked Hayley Mills is 76 years old!

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/02/2023 10:39

I still think of her in the twins thing

No but he will be linked somehow. If he doesn't sign off before the end of the series.

I can't see Lord Tony being a squatter.

I am not sure, he could have been a squatter in the sixties, lots were, then gone back into the mainstream fold. Interesting that he was giving back to the youth club place, so maybe he still has a few hippy vibes thrumming away under the Saville Row natty tailoring.

viques · 28/02/2023 11:09

Just remembered the last thing I saw Hayley Mills in, she played a very nasty loan shark in a series called Compulsion, she was great, took me ages to realise who she was. I think she came to a sticky end. Looks like she has reverted to type for this one. Though you never know………

CaptainMyCaptain · 28/02/2023 11:13

Given that the body was found to have only been there for 6 years a squatter who was there in the 60s is unlikely to be involved I would have thought.

I do agree that there were squatters and (pretend) drop outs from posh families in the 60s and 70s. It must be very easy to be unmaterialistic if you can fall back on your rich family if you get bored with it.

Yes that was good

Sure I did a thread about it

Hurrah for this thread. I love Unforgotten. It will be a good treat for the start of each week. No idea yet how the story will develop, I'm still reeling from the penultimate and last episodes of series three. 😀

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/02/2023 12:43

Yes they always connect

So how if body has been dead 6yrs or so

Who shoved a mum 30/40yrs old up there

Cher and the Drug dealer /mugger couple

Restaurant couple

Tony/Man with cancer and Hayley mills

French man who lying about being single

Sunny sat by cassies grave for over 2hrs 🥲💕

OP posts:
PrincessScarlett · 28/02/2023 13:23

Enjoyed the first episode. Lots of things going on and we know from previous series that it will all connect.

My money is on dodgy restaurant couple, there seems to be a lot going on with them. And the fact the guy is nasty Ray from Corrie automatically draws me to them! 😂

FawnDrench · 28/02/2023 13:29

Cher or the male druggie chap could be the child of the dead woman as they don't look that old.

Could the connection be AA or something like that - pictures of chairs in a circle in the opening scenes which are always a very vague tenuous link to some clues i- the past series at least.
But we had a "group therapy" type link previously so perhaps not.

martinisforeveryone · 28/02/2023 13:35

Whenever I watch a series with the potential to be complicated, I need a note to remind myself who's who from the start. Thought it might be handy for other people too? Happy to take any corrections.

The police and associates
DCI Jessica 'Jess' or 'Jesse' James. She was fast tracked through the system
Steve James, her cheating husband
Two children, I think both sons? One son is named Eliot and is described as 'troubled'
D I Sunil 'Sunny' Khan
Sal, his partner
DS Fran Lingley and Murray Boulting
DC Jake Collier and Karen 'Kaz' Willets
Dr Leanne Balcombe, police pathologist

and then we have
Lord Tony Hume, a successful politician now member of the House of Lords and his wife Lady Emma Hume
Ebele Falade the ambitious vegan restaurant owner and her chef husband, Dave
Jaye Royce the drug addicted mugger and his girlfriend, Cheryl
Karol Wojski, Polish born, based in Paris who is working as a taxi driver and airport baggage handler

Plus
Colin R. Campbell as D. Spt Andrews
Kate Robbins as Kate
Gráinne Keenan as Debbie
Claire Ganaye as Elise
There are more characters and cast on this link
www.itv.com/presscentre/ep1weekweek-09-2023-sat-25-feb-fri-03-mar/unforgotten

*SPOILER WARNING
don't google characters because the first hit is a Radio Times link that gives away a spoiler in its preview 😡

Saw Hayley Mills a few weeks ago in Best Exotic Marigold Hotel on stage. Glorious
