I know there is an unforgotten thread going but likely that will hold spoilers for those who binge so i was asked if I would do one for tv pace aka weekly as we all know blondes doesn’t binge 😂

if you can watch weekly and went to chat about each episode and what may happen /who the killer is etc then all welcome

if you want to binge as all will be out 10pm on xitv then post on the other thread

The new investigation happens after the shocking ending of the fourth series of Unforgotten (www.whattowatch.com/watching-guides/everything-you-need-to-know-about-unforgotten-on-netflix) when DCI Cassie Stuart played by Nicola Walker (www.whattowatch.com/features/unforgotten-star-nicola-walker-teases-the-season-4-cold-case) was killed in a horrific road accident.

Not only did Cassie's sudden death leave her family emotionally shattered, her police colleagues are hurting too, not least her detective partner DI Sunny Khan (Sanjeev Bhaskar) with who
m she'd worked with on a number of baffling cold cases.

Now Sunny has a new sleuthing partner for the new six-part season 5, as Cassie has now

been replaced by DCI Jessica James played by Sinéad Keenan, (www.whattowatch.com/features/unforgottens-sanjeev-bhaskar-and-sinead-keenan-on-being-tvs-next-big-cop-duo)

Unforgotten series 5 begins just before DCI Jessica James’ first day in her new job when there's an unforeseen and devastating event involving her family life. Despite this, Jessica is determined to make a good first impression with her new colleagues, but will Jess be in the right frame of mind to fit in with and inspire the team?

The ghost of much-loved former colleague Cassie Stuart looms large over the team and Jess knows there will be big shoes for her to fill. This will need resolve, professionalism and a great spirit if she's to live up to her much-admired and respected predecessor.

The first case for Jess and her team is the discovery of human remains in a newly renovated period property in Hammersmith, West London. But it seems the body has been there a very long time — this looks like a murder dating back to the 1930s, but could the body been disposed of in more recent times?

There are baffling questions that need answering and Jess will need to be at the top of her game.

Can she work with DS Sunny Khan to work out what has happened?
Sanjeev Bhaskar explains: “A body that is found bricked into a chimney breast, stuffed up a chimney, when some renovations taking place, but they have no idea how old this body is, or who it is.

Ini8ally, Jess comes in and says, “Look, we’re not going to do these old cases unless there’s some sort of present impact, because it takes up resources.” So he has to convince her otherwise. And once again, in a similar structural way to the previous series, it is about these disparate antagonists, possible suspects.

Glued to it!

SydneyCarton · 03/04/2023 21:21

” I took indecent photos of strangers without their consent because of work stress”. Said no woman ever.

FawnDrench · 03/04/2023 21:30

Oh there's just got to be more to it than this - far too convenient!

SydneyCarton · 03/04/2023 21:32

I thought the pathologist said there were two bullet holes in Joseph Bell’s skull, which is odd if he was accidentally shot by his mother who then immediately killed herself 🤔

EdieLedwell · 03/04/2023 22:02

Fucking Hell Jay!

FawnDrench · 03/04/2023 22:02

Hmmm.. ok then.
Too political imo,
Jay turned into judge and jury just like Tony had been.
Suppose that's the point tho.

Hey ho, all over till the next one.

SydneyCarton · 03/04/2023 22:06

I’d be amazed if the CPS did decide to prosecute a 57 year old rape case when the victim was dead and so was everyone else who could corroborate her story (her parents and Tony’s dad) and the only evidence was a letter she wrote to her daughter before she killed herself.

aramox1 · 03/04/2023 22:10

Bit disappointed by the end tbh. Sledgehammer politics!

Yes that seemed unlikely.

Also lord Hume -didn't he only have a few months to live? Why confess if he wasn't guilty (and not even protecting someone like his wife or daughter)

EdieLedwell · 03/04/2023 22:21

I liked it. I liked that Hume just went along with it in the end.

SydneyCarton · 03/04/2023 22:25

I assume Hume confessed as a sort of overall atonement for all his other crimes. Plus he only has months to live so again once the terminal diagnosis was made known I doubt the CPS would consider it in the public interest to proceed with the prosecution.

LizzieSiddal · 03/04/2023 22:26

I’ve really enjoyed this series but I was quite frustrated with the ending, wish it hadn’t been so twisty.

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/04/2023 22:29

Humph

Usually unforgotten is brilliant

But the ending was crap imo

All pulled tightly together

Why didn't bele tell anyone

Poor jay - tho he lost his accent man

And the neighbor was a red herring

A rapist who murdered your great grandson

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 03/04/2023 22:31

Tho I get why he lied

And sister was just a kiss

OP posts:
SydneyCarton · 03/04/2023 22:37

Was he shagging someone else as well as kissing the sister? Seems unlikely he’d walk out on his marriage for an ill advised kiss with his sister in law. Sounds like the Mumsnet script of only admitting what you think you can get away with!

Had to laugh at Cher the smack head telling Jay to sort his life out 🤣

CampervanKween · 03/04/2023 22:46

Yeah honestly thought the last episode of this was a huge disappointment. Really stupid and annoying.

PrincessScarlett · 03/04/2023 22:59

I presumed Lord Hume went along and confessed to killing Joe as some sort of atonement for the rape and other dodgy dealings. And he only has months to live so he'll be dead by the time it gets to court.

Really liked Jay. What a shitty life he had. I think Jay and Abele will heal each other.

Don't like the husband just waltzing back in. Even Jess's mum seemed to think she should take him back.

Bit of a shock twist that Jay lied. I quite enjoyed the series. Glad Sunny and Jess are getting along. BUT I really miss Nicola Walker.

ConstancetheGardener · 03/04/2023 23:13

Hmm . As soon as the white middle aged Tory Lord appeared I assumed he would be the guilty party because in nearly every detective drama these days it is the middle aged white man (preferably a wicked Tory) "who done it ". It would be quite nice if occasionally they tried making the guilty party someone who doesn't match that profile.

martinisforeveryone · 03/04/2023 23:27

It was too convoluted for me, although I think they’ll pull it back next time.

duc748 · 04/04/2023 00:27

Yes, it was pretty clunky, with the "Thatcherism and racism and anti-semitism is bad, mkay?" stuff that larded the script. Didn't believe the just a kiss at all, As Jess said, would her sister say that? Looked like a happier ending for Jay. His own drug issues seem to melt away without too much of problem. And that's a good point about the two bullet-holes in the skull, which I'd completely overlooked.

Are you watching Grace? That has quite a mixed bag of guilty parties. Sunday evenings on ITV.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/04/2023 08:02

I still find it Incridible that precious shot her son accidentally the. Killed herself and her mum shoved her up the chimney

All so she could keep getting her dads blackmail money ?

SydneyCarton · 04/04/2023 10:29

Unsurprisingly the Guardian TV reviewer is raving over it Grin

And was DNA technology sufficiently advanced in 1988 for Ebele to have got a private test done to prove Hume was her father, just using a random sample from a cup?

Disappointed in Jess's mum basically saying "Well he's not perfect but the boys need a father" Hmm Way to set the bar low there.

Halsall · 04/04/2023 10:46

Well, I didn’t find that a very satisfying resolution. When there was the shock revelation about Jay I wondered where they were going with it. Turns out it was shoehorned in just so there could be a final witness to what had happened (or not).

And Ebele muttered something very, very casually about getting a friend in 'to put up some plasterboard' - what, having somehow single-handedly manhandled the dead body of your daughter into the chimney-breast - not an easy feat for a smallish woman; bodies aren’t that easy to manipulate afaik - and concealed it so thoroughly that this friend wouldn’t notice and would happily rock up to do some DIY for you without asking any awkward questions? Hmm 🤔
