Yes I'm also finding them releasing only 5 episodes per week annoying they could atleast release 10 per week.

I feel sorry for Gizzmo, what a shit home life he must have. Being away for the night and no one even bothered

Leeds2 · 16/06/2023 10:47

I feel sorry for Gizzmo too. I remember really disliking him when I watched the episodes back in the '80s but see him rather differently now.

yes I noticed the burgundy bath too 🤣. and I also thought Rodger looks better with his beard too. 80s moustaches seemed to make men look much older than they actually were infact everyone looks much older than they actually are. I don't like the grants new furniture covers preferred the furniture as it was without them. I think I remember my neighbours having the same 3 piece suite.

That’s true, my dad and many of his colleagues in the army at the time had moustaches. They would have been mid to late 20s.
Yet they looked older. My dad is now early 60s, clean shaven and looks younger!

Moustaches make men look older. They were common in the 80s.

I wouldn't want her as a neighbour but Marie Jackson is a fantastic character, it's really starting to feel like the Brookie I loved

I’m not watching this on that channel but remember the old repeats from UK living.

Was there a time when George Jackson was put in prison for some he didn’t do? Must have been around 1984 /85 time?
I’m sure the Liverpool radio tower had a free George Jackson banner on it?!

Unless I’m mis remembering? I saw the repeat many years ago.

Paul2023 · 17/06/2023 22:35

In 1988 we lived in an army married quarters estate in Hampshire. The houses were fairly new then , and our close was very similar to Brookside close. I even remember my mum saying at the time, how it looked like Brookside !
The houses weren’t very well built, very easy to put holes in the walls, probably built cheaply.

There’s an 1980 estate near where I used to live and some of the local people still refer to it as the new estate , despite the houses being almost 40 years old !

Anyone else pause and study the images in the opening sequence? It all looks so bleak (as I remember it!). I check out all the people and fashions and squint to see what’s happening. Is that a young girl trying to pull her granny up off the bench? I can never quite make it out.

I like the opening sequence too not paused it though. was wondering what the building was that looks a bit like a circus tent shape??

bigTillyMint · 20/06/2023 11:08

@theblackradiator, do you mean Paddy’s Wigwam?!

theblackradiator · 20/06/2023 11:10

@bigTillyMint is that what it's called? what is it? is it still there? I've never been to Liverpool.

The Catholic Cathedral ,The C.of E one is on the other side of he same street!

bigTillyMint · 20/06/2023 14:05

Yes, that’s how it was known when I was a kid, but not very PC now!

Makingupfactstosuitmyagenda · 20/06/2023 15:25

Ha ha! Yes, Paddy’s wigwam was indeed how it is/was referred to locally! Neat how the one phrase simultaneously offends two cultures! If you are in Liverpool, go in. The light inside from the stained glass is beautiful.

Princess Diana started the trend for the llama jumpers like the one Sheila wears!

Just watching reminded me of Bread because Karen's boyfriend went on to become Jack Boswell.
I loved Bread - that would be great to watch again!

bigTillyMint · 25/06/2023 09:47

@NCTDN, I was thinking just that the other day!

Same here! Poor lad really does have a crap home life, doesn't he? I found this interview with the actor and no one seems to pick up on the fact that the character is neglected at all: https://ianphillipssite.wordpress.com/2019/02/14/an-interview-with-brookside-legend-robert-smith-gizzmo-hawkins/

An Interview with Brookside Legend: Robert Smith – “Gizzmo” Hawkins

Now many fans of classic Liverpool drama serial Brookside will fondly remember Gizzmo, played by Robert Smith, from the early years of the series, one of Damon’s (likeable) “scally&#822…

Thanks, CaptainBatEars! I enjoyed reading that.

Roger Huntington later appeared in Soldier Soldier as a sergeant major. He looked different without a moustache!

Yes, yes he did!
I remember the Free George Jackson campaign
It reminded me of who shot J.R 😂

VanillaImpulse · 02/07/2023 00:25

I'm moving the retro Xmas episodes! No one seems to have a tree in their house!

VanillaImpulse · 02/07/2023 00:26

*loving

NCTDN · 02/07/2023 08:11

That's because they only put their trees up at the most a week before Christmas! It shows that it's got earlier and earlier.
