Come Dancing BBC4

Oh, the absolute joy of it. Terry Wogan, dancers who look 34 but are actually 19 yr old secretaries and mechanics, awkward descriptions of the enormous sequinned dresses (created by Carol's mother, Sheila), the proper dance band, cutaways to the dinner-dance audience smoking grumpily through the 'now traditional Come Dancing disco section!', brutal marking...

Can't believe my childhood now looks as ancient as a Pathe newsreel.

OP posts:

I loved the burgundy catsuit!

EsmaCannonball · 19/02/2023 19:10

I love Terry's shirt, the shampoo and set hairdos, and the dresses are even more spectacular.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 19/02/2023 19:11

That last dance (magenta frock) was a bit nifty!

EsmaCannonball · 19/02/2023 19:12

The dresses are very Endora from Bewitched.

EsmaCannonball · 19/02/2023 19:14

So hoping Anthony Hurley turns out to be Liz's dad.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 19/02/2023 19:16

Unsure about this pink sheet business 😂

EsmaCannonball · 19/02/2023 19:16

So this is the legendary Offbeat. Again, Couple's Choice but actually watchable.

EsmaCannonball · 19/02/2023 19:17

I'm gonna say it, that pink sheet stuff is a bit Georgia O'Keeffe vaginal.

EsmaCannonball · 19/02/2023 19:18

Wales = The Wicker Man meets Broadway showtunes.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 19/02/2023 19:20

Ohhhhh, is this the offbeat you all speak of!

I pictured it being some kind of disco dancing/northern soul mash up 😁

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 19/02/2023 19:20

They still do this at the university championships (or they did when I was doing it). Five girls to one boy would be considered quite a good gender balance for an Offbeat team. Grin

EsmaCannonball · 19/02/2023 19:21

Loving the randomness of the teenage trampolinist. This entire show is like an extended hallucination.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 19/02/2023 19:21

Was there some controversy in the offbeat scoring? I had to nip into the kitchen and came back to hear cheers/boos.

EsmaCannonball · 19/02/2023 19:25

I think the audience think Wales were robbed in the Offbeat. Contempowaft won over energetic rural sex cult. Times haven't changed. People still hate contempowaft.

EsmaCannonball · 19/02/2023 19:26

I can confirm from family photographs that 1974 was a big year for bright orange.

EsmaCannonball · 19/02/2023 19:28

I love how all these couples are like the next door neighbours in classic sitcoms.

The hair and dresses are giving me life.

EsmaCannonball · 19/02/2023 19:31

Stanley and Janet Jackson's latin formation team? Should be interesting.

EsmaCannonball · 19/02/2023 19:37

The dresses of the Welsh formation team make it all look so pretty.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 19/02/2023 19:39

I loved that! The patterns were so good.

EsmaCannonball · 19/02/2023 19:41

Ada Unsworth. I shall name my firstborn Ada Unsworth.

EsmaCannonball · 19/02/2023 19:44

Sybil Marks! The red dress! The furs! I feel like Victoria Wood has invented these people.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 19/02/2023 19:46

Looks like we're getting 1977 next Sunday if my TV guide is correct.

Why the jump from 1974 to 1977? 🤔

SpikyHatePotato · 19/02/2023 23:09

I've been visiting friends, (who couldn't be persuaded to watch - reconsidering my friends Grin), so haven't seen tonight's episode yet, but I have been squawking with laughter at all your comments

Really late to the thread, only just seen it. My mum is one of the dancers in this! 😂

Wow! Please tell us more! How did she get into dancing, what were the competitions like, did she meet Terry? What were her dresses like, who made them? Does she still dance, do you dance?
