I thought the same until I realized she still has to have some kind of thing with her Mum now she’s rocked up. I love Lola and Jay. 😭

harrassedmumto3 · 27/01/2023 00:42

I love Lola and Jay.
I took her balloon floating up to the heavens to be a sign Sad

harrassedmumto3 · 27/01/2023 00:43

Emma (Lola's mum) isn't the best actress, but then the ability to move your face would help Grin

bizzey · 27/01/2023 02:05

I must be such an emotional parson...I did not notice the significance of the "L " balloon going up in the air.
Just that ..ohhh that was a waste if money ! 😮.

Though the corner sleeve if my dressing gown is very damp 😭.

Love jay and Lola.
Adding a box of tissues onto next week's shop !

bizzey · 27/01/2023 02:07

An emotional parson .!!
Was meant to be
an unemotional bitch ..!

the80sweregreat · 27/01/2023 03:14

Yes, Reiss Will suddenly turn to the camera and show us his bad side!!
Maybe one of the ex members of the brass band his in will rock up and tell her to be careful , he once stole his Cornett and things were never the same again after that !..

Meredusoleil · 27/01/2023 06:21

Good shout about the possible Dr Legg connection with Reiss. He even looks a bit like him lol.

kateandme · 27/01/2023 06:43

I no we no she's actually left. But I keep doing that thing where you hold onto something changing. A magic cure!I'm too attached to soaps dammit haha.
But I've loved lola and Jay since there first scenes together.they were so young.but still two of the best actors in the show imo.so underused.
I hope Jay doesn't leave now. He's brilliant.i want him to be a Phil Mitchell in it for life.bugbi don't think anyone does that anymore.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/01/2023 07:30

True Lola can't be dead yet. She has to meet her mum

I'm also finding Reiss too nerdy. Don't get what Sonia sees in him at all.

I think that is the point being mad ATM by the script writers. Badly. There's been two lines lately were Sonia has been set up as 'fuddyduddy' in the vein of 'becoming Dot' or indeed Pauline. The first was giving Whitney baby clothes and she said 'these might be old fashioned but I couldn't resist' and the second was a reference to Mr Blobby which was about reminiscing back to her childhood and almost being stuck there.

Sonia is becoming a device character. A bit of a 'voice of sensible reason' when all the others are running around screaming at each other. Note the chat with Martin about Lily and how he then calmed down. It actually makes sense for her to be married off to a boring man without too much drama and instead idiocy. Reiss - the Pillock who really likes her but hasn't got confidence so keeps running away because he's scared of mucking it up and is terrible with words.

So I don't think there is any back story to Reiss being a wrong un. I think that the point is the square is lacking a stable, sensible couple in the vein of Pauline and Arthur and lacking a square gossip. There is also no nerd character ATM (Bradley was a one time nerd and was popular for it).

So I think that they will be set up to be the sensible but dims to be a counter to everyone else in scripts. But in EastEnders fashion Sonia can't just date someone and it be straightforwardly dull in this vein. There has to be hiccups and tension all the same before they walk down the aisle to some mega drama (because it's impossible in EastEnders to get married without at least three duff duffers first even in happy ever after marriages).

With regard to the Inheritance Tax situation, I think Jim had a £500,000 allowance which passed to Dot. Her allowance then increased to £1m, which would mean no tax was payable on the value of the house unless it exceeded £1m.

the80sweregreat · 27/01/2023 09:50

Red, it's a good synopsis of Reiss and Sonia , but she is only 37. Surely too young to be pinching her cheeks and acting like Dot.
She is a nurse ( sometimes), had a child very young and seen too much to be getting old before her time like this! We all reminisce at times , but I like to think I also like new things and new music etc. The agent would have told her what that house is worth : surely she would realize she owes some tax ? Even if it's not as much as the original letter said it was. She can't just write it off like this surely ? They will chase it up too. There must be some owing ?
She is being sucked in by a con man. (Although I'd like to be wrong.)
Pauline and Arthur were sensible , until he stole the committee money , had an affair and was hit over the head with a frying pan and disowned his son for having HIV.
I'm not taken in by Reiss at all.

the80sweregreat · 27/01/2023 09:51

I wrote this before seeing the post below re inheritance taxes
How would Reiss know all this though without seeing any paper work ?

iknowimcoming · 27/01/2023 11:39

I too thought Lola 'will be gone by't morning'! My prediction is still that her Mum will have a change of heart, turn up, find she's too late then try to get Lexi!

BudgeUpAnn · 27/01/2023 11:48

I do hope Lola doesn't die overnight. They've been pretty realistic with the GBM tumour storyline and although it's a rapid decline at the end, it's not usually an overnight one (my mum had GBM). Mind you, it is Eastenders where you just park your disbelief at the door.

I said to DS last night, I have a bad feeling about Reiss. I hope he's just a bit of a nerd and not a con man.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/01/2023 11:48

Noooooooo @iknowimcoming She can't be dead on her wedding night.

That's too sad

Ah thanks @Optimist1

Wasn't sure how inheritance tax worked

I still think it's wrong in the average case

Mum and dad work hard. Pay their mortgage off

Years later both die and children then have to both pay it - seems wrong

Are you a lawyer /know about this stuff

Any other loop holes lol

Say 2 kids. Ans house is 800k to - million

If house goes to one will they pay less inheritance tax then if share between 2 kids

Then older sibling gives half the remaining to sibling

Or better to share to both kids and then both pay inheritance tax

Yeah definitely the mum will try to get Lexi.

the80sweregreat · 27/01/2023 12:16

Did Billy tell Emma exactly where Lola lived , or did she just guess ?
As usual , these new characters always know exactly where to go and not end up in the wrong place ! ( like I would )
I'm
Glad Lola mentioned her fight the day 'pops' found her ! I do remember it as they thought Lola was another girl who was more of Scarlett type at first! Then they realized it was the one fighting another girl
They should do flashbacks on EE
If only to see how young they all were

the80sweregreat · 27/01/2023 12:31

I doubt anyone would let Emma just have Lexi would they ?
Although, as already pointed out , she's bound to be anti Ben and Callum and maybe try to rock the boat ?

SoupDragon · 27/01/2023 13:17

Did Billy tell Emma exactly where Lola lived , or did she just guess ?

I think he might have said where the reception was but I'm not sure.

SoupDragon · 27/01/2023 13:22

He does. He said "Walford registry office and then the Queen Victoria pub afterwards"

Optimist1 · 27/01/2023 13:33

@Blondeshavemorefun - I'm not a lawyer but have a bit of personal experience.

There may not be Inheritance Tax payable when the first one of a married couple dies because the surviving spouse is entitled to the home they shared. So the unused £500k allowance for the first one (Jim) can be passed to the survivor (Dot), added to her allowance, making no tax due on anything under £1 million.

If there was more than one child inheriting, it makes no difference to the amount of tax payable from the estate. The house might have to be sold and the proceeds divided between them, or one of them might be able to buy the other(s) out.

the80sweregreat · 27/01/2023 14:53

Did Reiss actually have access to Dot and Jim's affairs ?
