So I am rewatching the previous seasons in anticipation. I have also hot DH addicted.

Anyone else excited?

I liked it and was suitably 😮 at the cliffhanger ending!!

I love how colourful it is. I love the OTT clothes. I really liked how they didn’t make Madeline into a villain but she and a Emily had a warm hug when she left.

It’s marketing worked on me because I booked a trip to Paris yesterday and I plan to flit around Paris a la Emily!!!

ShakeYourFeathers · 24/12/2022 13:56

Just finished watching it. I find 30mins an episode is great for my attention span and I can fit in more episodes somehow

Anyway, that cliffhanger 😲bring in season 4

notfeelingChristmassy · 24/12/2022 15:52

I started two days ago and got to E6 in between Xmas prepping and parties. I love the silly product placements!! Especially purple McLaren cars!! Also loving OTT costumes!! Just pure escapism. This time last year I binged Bridgerton when I was just as low. I remember when S2 was over I thought I'd never bother to watch it again all this silly costumes and pretentiousness but it's just what I need right now.

She is painfully thin.

I think that's a bit harsh! Isn't she just naturally like that? I'm about the same build and weight as her I'd guess (although a bit taller) and I'd hate to think that people found it triggering to look at me!

She's just thin. It would never be considered okay to criticise someone's appearance on TV for being too large, too short, having too curly hair, or whatever.

lifter · 25/12/2022 06:21

Really sorry for upsetting you @Jourdain11 Flowers Yes I found her appearance extremely triggering in the last series, to the point that I stopped eating for a while. But that probably tells you more about me then anything else.

In real life I guess I wouldn't watch you wander around in various revealing outfits with lots of close-ups of how thin you were? (Or if I did, I think we'd have bigger problems Grin)

Juicylychee · 25/12/2022 08:57

@Jourdain11 she has suffered from anorexia in the past and claims she has recovered, clearly not. Hopefully she’s getting the help she needs. My comment was made in response to a PP who asked about her weight because they find it triggering.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 25/12/2022 20:10

Just finishing off the Lavender episode now - it's classic EiP:- product placement, batshit clothing, lots of crossed lovers, Emily coming up with a save the day scheme.

I fucking love this show.

funnystuff123 · 26/12/2022 10:08

she's not "just thin" though.
She had an eating disorder and talks about it here:

www.harpersbazaar.com/uk/culture/culture-news/a42654/lily-collins-how-i-overcame-my-eating-disorder/

lifter · 26/12/2022 10:54

I hadn't realised she struggled too and can't believe she did that for a film really. I would hazard a guess that she's never really overcome it, and the movie was a nice excuse to relapse, whether she said it out loud or not.

funnystuff123 · 26/12/2022 10:58

that was what I wondered too lifter.
It's interesting what she said about being complimented in the depths of her disorder too. That happened to my teenage daughter when she had an eating disorder. She weighed about 6.5 stones, was a bag of bones, hadn't had a period for two years, blood tests showed she was depleted in loads of important things and several people complimented her on how amazing she looked. So depressing.

CoffeeBoy · 26/12/2022 11:00

I only watch it for Gabriel to be honest

HalleLouja · 26/12/2022 12:15

Are people happy to talk about what happened?

Omg the end. I didn’t predict that!

I am happy to talk about it. Perhaps get MNHQ to put a spoiler alert in the thread title

Jourdain11 · 26/12/2022 12:38

That whole movie (To the Bone) was a bit fucked up and I agree that asking an actress who has previously had an ED to lose weight for the role is very problematic. But to me, for Emily in Paris, she does look "just thin". She has a tiny frame and it's not like her bones are sticking out all over the place.

The lines are blurred here because we know that she did have an ED, but it makes me fed up that anyone thin is automatically assumed to have an ED and it's fair game to comment on how unhealthy they look. No one would dare to make the same comments about an overweight actor!

Anyway, on the show. It's total fluff but very easy watching! IRL they'd never speak English for Emily though, but some littke "Paris" details (like the croissant lady correcting Emily's French when she orders and no working at weekends) are spot on.

Oh totally. When they're all at a restaurant they'd all be talking French not English for Emily's sake

I once had a lady in a bolangerie tell me all about pronouncation of une baguette and the history and who orders what.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 26/12/2022 13:07

I'm happy to talk about it too

HalleLouja · 26/12/2022 13:58

Title all changed.

I felt sorry for Alfie. He was definitely used and abused.

Although am a bit excited by Bentoit and Mindy in Eurovision. 🎤🎤🎤🎤

thefemaleJoshLyman · 26/12/2022 18:17

@SmallGeezer I noticed Arlette! Call My Agent is one of my favourite things ever. It felt like in this series there was more spoken French which was good.

Such a cliffhanger! I too want to know about Mindy, Benoit and Eurovision, I really didn't like Nico or Alfie.

ShakeYourFeathers · 26/12/2022 18:27

I really want Mindy & Benoit to perform in Liverpool for Eurovision.

bevelino · 26/12/2022 18:41

Emily is not the only thin actress in the show, Sylvie and Mindy are also painfully thin.

notfeelingChristmassy · 26/12/2022 19:20

what a cliffhanger.. I didn't expect that either
What do you think will happen?

Tbh I got bored towards the end and thought (like when I finished Season 2) that I would not watch again but now I'm curious!!!

HalleLouja · 26/12/2022 22:42

They have filmed seasons 3 and 4 back to back. So maybe there won’t be too long to wait….

OP posts:
CoffeeBoy · 27/12/2022 15:12

I wonder what the French think of it?

Jourdain11 · 27/12/2022 17:17

bevelino · 26/12/2022 18:41

Emily is not the only thin actress in the show, Sylvie and Mindy are also painfully thin.

Ugh, again! Why, "painfully thin"? You'd never make a similar comment about a large actress. And actually I think Mindy has a perfectly regular figure. Philippine L-B is tiny, but has been in everything I've ever seen her in for 20+ years, so it's not specific for this show.

Sorry, but it really annoys me!

Agreed there was more French in this series, I guess partly because of the new company which in the first few episodes was without Emily. And more scenes with 2 French characters (Sylvie and husband, etc.).

I think Luc is my favourite character!!
