Welcome to the shiny new thread.

One less day to wait for the next installment of Strictly!

OP posts:
toomuchlaundry · 10/12/2022 18:56

I assume they are worried about viewing figures and votes. I like both football and strictly. Also I don’t know how and when it is chosen which channel is showing which match

ChessieFL · 10/12/2022 18:56

It’s because the schedules had to be determined a few weeks ago and at that point they wouldn’t have known which matches would be on BBC. They knew there was a chance England would be playing tonight and that it might be on BBC so they had to plan accordingly.

JingleMingle · 10/12/2022 19:02

Oh … never really considered that @Maireas I know DV increases lots with football matches normally though … yet another reason i’m not keen on the game!

JingleMingle · 10/12/2022 19:04

also the advance planning makes sense I suppose. Better reschedule in advance than suddenly cancel if they showing esp with strictly being live and having audience. Im
just disappointed as can’t find anything to watch tonight now (no football!!)

Sunbird24 · 10/12/2022 19:29

I’ve binge-watched Wednesday and started on Locke & Key, hooray for Netflix!

Yes, that's the reason.
Trying to avoid domestic violence.

Maireas · 10/12/2022 19:59

I should add that I agree with pp about the schedule and planning, but the other issue is a factor.

SequinsandStilettos · 10/12/2022 23:17

I have been watching Harry and Meghan on Netflix to fill the glitterball-shaped void in my life.

bizzey · 10/12/2022 23:27

I went with the other ball !
And I have to say ...it was nice sitting in the sitting room with my DS's on a Saturday night !

If it was on at the same time I would have just kept a check on the time and thrown some votes without seeing the dances which would have been really unfair to the dancers .

Though really ....they should then watch strictly with me tomorrow? 🤔🤔.

On the BIG TV !

JingleMingle · 10/12/2022 23:54

@bizzey yeah they should definitely watch strictly on the BIG tv with you tomorrow!!

I watched some of the ITT I hadn’t seen from the week. Enjoyed wardrobe dept sections and the stage people (not idea how they can move so much but set prices so quickly!!) Quite liked Shirley’s background piece this week but she always seems quite “on” when speaking whereas Craig seems like just himself if that makes sense. I like Joanna Clifton but find her choreographer corner a bit repetitive and preferred when they had different people in. Also miss Ian with his pen highlighting where the moves were wrong.

Then i started Masterchief the Professionals - be reading the past threads on that after too!!

@Maireas i see England have lost. That’s going to be difficult evenings for some households now 😢 Absolutely shocking that is a worry in this day and age. Disgusting. I actually hope part of the bbc reasoning was to try to minimise conflict and DV incidences but cynically I think the real reason was ratings and money. I assume football with its massive revenues contributes to lots of DV campaigns and support for victims. I appreciate your post on that as wasn’t aspect (in my admittedly sheltered lift) I’d considered on the strictly schedule change complaint.

Ellmau · 11/12/2022 00:51

Yes, that's the reason.
Trying to avoid domestic violence.

Maybe that's a reason they should not show it at all.

IReallyLikeCrows · 11/12/2022 02:43

Talking to a friend about the football tonight - I usually watch the world cup but 1. It's the wrong time of year! And more importantly, 2. The whole slave labour thing. I just can't.

Anyway, my suggestion is that football should make DV their next big campaign. I'm not suggesting that it would suddenly make it stop but I really think it would do some good.

Other than that another weekend of being discombobulated and my time clock being messed about with. My brain will probably explode when the results show is on Monday. Plus it will mess with my Monday quiz night on BBC 2!

And gurning doesn't mean struggling with language. It means those stupid faces they pull. cough Johannes cough

It’s surely that an exaggerated facial expression that’s necessary for the stage, or for a studio audience, looks massively over the top in televised close-ups?

awaynboilyurheid · 11/12/2022 12:36

Yes why wasn’t strictly on BBC2 ! thought it was really annoying! Just to appease the football fans! Just rewatched some dances instead and Jowitas and Hamzas samba was brilliant when watched over …and over

Alcemeg · 11/12/2022 13:24

The reason I commented on it is that I think an exaggerated smile can be a nervous habit when your ability to communicate is limited. I imagine if I was on a foreign version of SCD my facial contortions would be enough to put me in an asylum.

Johannes is a special case as he is a fabulous queen!! 😂

TellingBone · 11/12/2022 15:50

No but we're talking about the expressions the pros adopt at certain points in any given dance.

Full on to camera in Latin dance - gob wide open
Silly bit in Charleston - inane frog-like grin
Dramatic bit in Paso - furious scowl, downturned mouth
Romantic bit in Waltz - simper beatifically at partner
Retrieve partner after acrobatic bit - shocked face

etc

I suspect they get marked on facial expressions when in competition so it must be ingrained

strawberriesplease · 11/12/2022 17:30

Can someone explain as I'm utterly lost with the schedule now.

Is it the full show tonight with results too?

XanaduKira · 11/12/2022 17:31

Results tomorrow night @strawberriesplease

strawberriesplease · 11/12/2022 17:33

Oh FGS!

Talk about dragging it out!

XanaduKira · 11/12/2022 17:36

I know!

bizzey · 11/12/2022 18:16

My poor little brain is still struggling this week !

I woke up this morning, knew it 2as Sunday and thought I had missed the dancing,,,
Dozed back off and had one of those wierd dreams.

I watched some dancing but it was performed in front of me on a street.

Then I got dragged away 1/2 way through to compete in a cooking competition.
Then Giovanni turned up in tux and tails to be a judge.
But he was having a grump about something.

And then.......

I flipping woke up 😂😂

Dear god ......is this what the menopause has reduced me to 😂😂

PurplePositivity · 11/12/2022 19:04
