would work

bizzey · 04/12/2022 15:35

Is anyone else totally out of sync what day it is with the change in the program days ? !

Yesterday D's was going to go shopping and I told him to get a move on as the shops close early today.

He looked at me and ask why.
I said it is Sunday ....early closing !

Errr...no mum ....it is Saturday .

This morning I thought I had slept it as my alarm did not go off....
Ooh it is Sunday !

SCD is the only programme I watch live and have a lovely routine for....

I did not realize that my body clock was completely dependent on SCD 😂😂.

I hear you!!! I went to bed thinking I had to get up for work in the morning, imagine my delight.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 04/12/2022 16:12

So who’s better, generally, Will or Hamza?

For me it’s Hamza, even if technically Will’s more consistent. I don’t know what it is about Will, he could be doing pretty much the same dance every week; not a single one has been memorable for me - and some I’ve found deeply irritating - whereas Hamza somehow brings everything to life and has had quite a few standout moments.

XanaduKira · 04/12/2022 16:47

@Bluffinwithmymuffin Hamza brings me joy. He's a joy to watch and I simply love how he moves. Whilst I can understand Will seems to be good, he does nothing for me at all (& I like him as an actor)

Hamza is my winner!

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 04/12/2022 17:05

I’m starting to think Hamza’s my winner too, but I’m (usually) always willing to be swayed by the performances on Final night 😁

dementedma · 04/12/2022 17:14

Hamza isnt technically the best...but he is also a larger chap who is not a front of camera performer. However he has rhythm,is light on his feet and capable of amazing lifts. More than that he brings joy and enthusiasm to every dance and makes me happy to watch. I really hope he wins

Snap @XanaduKira 😊 my IAC pal 🐛

joy is the first word that springs to mind with him and Jowita

EsmaCannonball · 04/12/2022 18:15

I quite like Will and I think most of his dances have been pretty enjoyable but he has this casual, slouchy dance style which the judges mostly, seem to overlook and which leaves me thinking 'that could have been brilliant' rather than 'that was brilliant' about his dances.

(Now watch me vote for him when his and Nancy's Couple's Choice is themed around Bez and Mark E.Smith having a streetdance battle over who gets to throw a pint of Thwaites over Morrissey in the Hacienda, circa 1991.)

FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge · 04/12/2022 18:23

Now I would vote for that @EsmaCannonball but only if Hamza came on and beat him over the head with gladioli thus knocking him out of the competition due to allergy complications

SolInvictus · 04/12/2022 18:30

I'd like to throw more than a pint of Thwaites over Morrissey. Eejit.
I was often in the Hacienda on a Thursday night in 1991 and these days look back and wonder if I stood at the bar with anyone famous. (🤣 At my glory days then and now in my fleecy jamas with SCD and a chocolate digestive being the highlight of my week)
I did sell Tim Booth some wrapping paper in WHS Manchester. And a pen to Audrey off Corrie but I don't think she was in the Hacienda much.
(Imo the Venue was better anyway. Less posing and you didn't have to queue so long)

FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge · 04/12/2022 18:39

I was a raver @SolInvictus

now also sat in fleecy jams with a side of Sherry moaning about Strictly being shifted about.

my younger self would be weeping at the thought 🤣

Shearlingsway549 · 04/12/2022 18:48

I've just watched the main and results show as didn't have time before.

I don't pretend to understand the differing "values" of steps from a technical pov but I just get the general impression in this series that 10s are being sprinkled about a bit too freely and that is undermining the value of them.

To my mind, to earn a ten, every single detail and placing of hand and turn of head has to be perfect. Maybe having one less day to rehearse in made it hard for the contestants this week but I thought some of the dancers who received 10s didn't achieve that level of perfection. I loved Fleur's dance though and would have marked it higher!

For example, I am sure I remember a previous Bob Fosse routine (was it with Fay Tozer?) which was more accomplished than Helen's performance. She did well (and good on her) but when you watch back the series of stills on the results show, her positioning isn't quite the same as a professional's would be.

I don't object to dances from Cabaret being featured though. I prefer that style of dance to some of the more saccharine flouncy stuff. And Cabaret's sleazy decadence was not featured (in the musical) gratuitously, it was highlighting the tawdry moral vacuum that allowed the extreme brutal, jingoistic, far right nationalism, in the form of the Nazis, to take power. I agree we could have done without Gorka crawling about on his hands and knees though!

I did feel sorry for Kym at the end. It was a bit of harsh ending after coming back from Covid and her father being in hospital and I thought she did well even if the dance needed a bit more exuberance! You could tell she was gutted. But she was refreshingly no nonsense and dignified throughout.

I can't work out why I don't warm to Molly as she hasn't done anything wrong and she's relatively young to have to undergo the pressure of all those dance offs and attendant social media comment. It makes me wonder about what attracts you to a person or not? Can't work it out!

iklboo · 04/12/2022 18:57

Ah, Morrissey. From quiff to queef.

XanaduKira · 04/12/2022 20:13

Nice to see you too @FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge - I'm often on all kinds of TV threads (although I do name change quite often but I do love my telly - usually the trashier the better Grin)

Pashazade · 04/12/2022 21:11

I do feel for Molly, she's technically good, but I think lack of chemistry with Carlos and an inability to exude enthusiasm has rather hampered her. It felt like she had almost got it with the Charleston. You have to be loving the dance, you have to not care that anyone is watching, if you can manage that you will carry an audience, she just doesn't seem to have that for me. Although some people have it naturally (see Hamza). But the dance off thing is starting to feel uncomfortable to be honest.

EwwSprouts · 04/12/2022 21:47

I think Carlos is the problem. Also I can't bear the patronising patting on her backside he does during comments and results. He needs to be told.

bizzey · 04/12/2022 21:51

Agree with pp that nikita and Molly would work better, but there's another new pro who keeps catching my eye.
I think he might be called Cameron.

He looks fun and cheeky.

Oh god!!!!!!!! I've got such a crush on him!!!!!!!!! I think I already confessed to it somewhere on this thread.

It’s really interesting to see which pros the public take to well and which ones fall flat.

Kai was immediately popular in his first year, whereas it took Graziano a long time to be established and even now I don’t really think I know his personality. Johannes - immediate hit. Nancy - took ages to warm to.

BogRollBOGOF · 04/12/2022 22:47

Nikita probably would have done Molly more favours. I loved his pairing with Ellie S and felt like he got the tone and styling for dancing with her just right (I feel robbed of a few weeks). It took a while for me to warm to Tilly and Nikita last year, but I got there in their last few dances.

Many of Molly's dances have had very sacherine styling which was bland week after week. Last week, she was much stronger, and this week was good. She's a very neat dancer, but with her background I'd expect a bit more drama and dynamics. It's been difficult to get much sense of self about her when not dancing, and it's not felt that distinct from her perfomance persona. She's young, hard working, seems sweet and has taken the knocks of repeated dance-offs with professionalism, but the whole thing has felt like it's been in one gear and not developed. Most of the others have developed in dancing skill and confidence, Will being the other exception having never done a really duff dance, but still feeling flat.

I keep forgetting Will's in it until it's his time to dance!

Hamza just makes me smile. There's such joy of dancing and he's just getting on with it then looking bemused and pleased that it's going well. His partnership with Jowita is lovely and they look so comfortable together. She's neither holding back nor over-dancing him.

So another World Cup match next Saturday- I’ve had a look at some tv guides online but they’re saying the football is on on the Friday night too - does anyone know what’s happening next weekend? This World Cup is ruining my run up to Christmas!!

Cameron is very good. The trouble is that he's quite short, so if they ever give him a partner it will have to be someone very petite.

God know what that will do to my body clock 😂
