I'm now starting to watch the first episode. I love both AC and LW so it's a winner already with me!

Lucy Worsley is really irritating me. Does she write her own script as it just seems so consulted.

Comefromaway · 26/11/2022 19:20

Convoluted

Purpleavocado · 26/11/2022 19:24

Thanks, I didn't know this was on! I have set myself the challenge of reading all of her books, so shall watch with interest.

Stopsnowing · 26/11/2022 23:52

I have given up. Lucy Worsley is really irritating. What she says is really superficial, she can’t get the best out of her interviewees, her tone is breathless and twee. And to cap it all she has just announces that there will be spoilers because you can’t analyse AC writing without them and in any case there is so much more to the books than who did it. While I agree that AC writing is underrated she is a master of plots and there is no need for Lucy to ruin them with spoilers. So I switched off. Really disappointing.

I like Lucy's programmes. She is informative and entertaining and likeable.

Willmafrockfit · 28/11/2022 08:45

i like lucy

I gave up on LW when she said she was too educated to have children.

Roystonv · 28/11/2022 09:23

Want to like her and indeed used to but just too much now. Shame as I do like Agatha Christie.

Willmafrockfit · 28/11/2022 09:32

i enjoyed her programme about scottish witches very much

maximist · 28/11/2022 09:37

I can't cope with Lucy Worsley, all that dressing up and that ridiculous hair clip. I just can't take her seriously. And she seems to be on almost everything historical on BBC4.

Precisely my take on her. I've skipped programmes in which I'm really interested because she's the presenter - and she can dial it down because she did a very good programme on the restoration of Notre Dame. Unfortunately she isn't like that most of the time with the wittering and the dressing up. I want to hear about the subject, not the presenter!

Crikey Hmm
Tell that to professor Dame Sarah Gilbert and her triplets

Willmafrockfit · 28/11/2022 09:43

she had to have a voice coach due to how she pronounces her Rs

Willmafrockfit · 28/11/2022 09:43

or is it Ws?

Roundlampshade · 28/11/2022 09:45

I can’t pronounce my Rs so please don’t take the mick.

Willmafrockfit · 28/11/2022 09:46

i am not @Roundlampshade

Willmafrockfit · 28/11/2022 09:47

she had to have a voice coach anyway, due to her minor speech impediment - she has rhotacism

Same here. It was an interesting programme though.

I enjoyed the book, I will look out for the series.

I completely understood her remark about being educated out of having children (I have four degrees and a child). The life of the mind opened up by academia is so intoxicating it really is hard to leave it behind for the drudgery that is so much of child-rearing. I didn’t take offence at all. It’s unlikely she meant my child was of no value or that being a mother was a stupid pursuit.

Shellingbynight · 28/11/2022 13:36

I enjoyed the programme, I like Lucy W. I knew nothing about AC's life - I now realise why poison features so heavily in the plots.

I read all the books when I was in my 20s and have forgotten the plots/whodunnit of most, except the obvious 'famous' one which has always stuck in my mind. I'm currently revisiting some of them on Audible.

Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Danni675 · 28/11/2022 13:40

She has clarified that remark about having children www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2013/apr/12/lucy-worsley-my-family-values

She is annoying though and a poor interviewer.

As someone with ADHD who has a high IQ but isn't functional enough to manage third level education, I suddenly find myself painfully envious.

Notonthestairs · 28/11/2022 13:50

Very few things annoy me as much as quizzing a successful woman about her kids/lack of kids.
Unless she's flogging toys or books about parenthood it's not relevant or interesting.

LW is ubiquitous and becoming a victim of her success. However I find the topics she covers interesting enough.

To be fair - the books have been put for quite a while so I'd imagine the presenter believed that anyone wi

Oops - fat fingers!

Anyone with a real burning desire to find out who killed Roger Ackroyd probably has done already, I would have thought!
