I think this is quite a lesson in what racism actually normally is like. It's not being voted out, it's being forgotten about and not being the favourite. Passive rather than active discrimination. This is why most of us don't realise we are even being racist because we don't do it deliberately.

So anyone who didn't vote for Charlene, Scarlets or Baba is a racist?

Appalonia · 20/11/2022 22:56

I like Baba but I'd never heard of him before. Is he on anything other than Gogglebox?

twelly · 20/11/2022 22:57

I don't believe it was a racist vote as people were voting to keep people in - therefore people voted for the celebrities who they either liked or wanted to stay as they found it interesting. Mostly this will be celebrities they already knew of before hand - some of the celebrities are like marmite which means they have a following. Scarlette was lovely, and came across as fun, honest and the sort of person who would have liked to have been with but I think very few people knew who she was and why she was a celebrity - hence she had a lower fan base. That is not racism she just wasn't as famous as the others.

Now Charlene will say she was voted out first due to racism rather than actually being unpopular!

Poor Scarlette - I've no idea if people voting are racist or not, but I'm voting for Chris as I'm a massive fan of his and love him on Radio X. My DCs all voted for Babatunde. We all love Scarlette but none of us voted for her.

Chris is getting all my votes too - nothing to do with the colour of his skin - l just love his show and him!

Twiglets1 · 20/11/2022 22:59

Scarlett is lovely but I don’t think many people had heard of her before this? She’s on a quite obscure property show on channel 5 I think.
I wanted Sue to go and hopefully she will tomorrow- but she probably has a big fan base through being in Corrie for years.

Miss03852 · 20/11/2022 23:00

I agree, I couldn’t stand Charlene but I liked Scarlett and didn’t want her to go, I wanted Sue to go.

SequinsandStilettos · 20/11/2022 23:01

Voting to save rather than evict skews it if you have less of a fanbase, fewer followers or those that vote in the first place. If are not such a big personality or if you are playing it safe (muted Switzerland, avoiding conflict, not being an active peacemaker or stepping up) to get a neutral/positive edit then you aren't giving the producers much to go on so no airtime.
If you are perceived as in danger, you may get a bottom two bounce.
Scarlette was equivalent of being middle of the leader board and forgettable - you cannot rely on your favourite to be safe if voting to save.

I had forgotten about Scarlette because she wasn't in the episode much.

I certainly hadn't forgotten about Baba, nor had I forgotten about Charlene when it was the 'Charlene show'.

I have also forgotten about Jill and Sue when they haven't been shown much in previous episodes.

FallingsHowIFeel · 20/11/2022 23:02

Racist apologists/minimisers have arrived, I see. 🙄

Im off. Will be voting for Baba.

Rarenamer · 20/11/2022 23:03

I don’t think it’s racism, if it was voting to leave then it could be racism, but voting to keep people in is more difficult as most people spread the votes around a few favourites.

I had put in at least one vote for Scarlett each time to keep as I liked her, so it’s a shame to see her voted out.

Exactly and say you're in the middle of the leaderboard with a Lioness and who has just won a trophy and popular as a result and a hunky soap actor. You're at risk

ShakeYourFeathers · 20/11/2022 23:06

Whoever you may be

Topgub · 20/11/2022 23:07

Why is it vote to save?

It means I need to split my vote which I'm sure doesn't help

I voted for scarlette Jill Sean and baba last night

Owen baba Sean and Jill tonight

I have been voting for Baba and Sean. Not racist if Scarlette just doesn't stay first and foremost in my mind.

GrandTheftWalrus · 20/11/2022 23:10

I'd never heard of scarlette before this show. So not likely to vote for her. Same with Owen.

SanFranBear · 20/11/2022 23:11

Gutted Scarlett left as I've been voting for her ever since the evictions started.

In the first few days of camp, I was loving seeing Black Britain so well represented with lots of air time for Charlene, Baba and Scarlett; talking of their heritage and really coming together, showcasing their culture and being fully themselves. It's the first time I've really seen that on IACGMOOH and thought it was long overdue. So for both black women to be the first two out - makes me truly sad.

People can claim its not racism but I'm struggling to see another reason despite all the previous posts - we love to think Britain celebrates difference but I remain to be convinced.

Racism has nothing to do with it! Charlene left because she was a horrible hypocrite so people deliberately didn't vote for her and I think people just kind of " forgot" Scarlett because she doesn't have a huge fan base or cause controversy or drama! I really wasn't expecting her to go tonight, i was hoping it would be BG or Lazy Sue!

Meltinthemiddle · 20/11/2022 23:16

I don't think it is racism, agree with what others have said about fan bases and air time. I didn't like Charlene but I don't like BG either. Loads of people I know love Baba and scarlette, I guess we just thought they were safe. Anyway how do you vote via the app?

Miss03852 · 20/11/2022 23:19

Yeah Charlene was awful, I’m sad Scarlett went through

Clarabe1 · 20/11/2022 23:19

It’s because Scarlette and Babatunde don’t have a huge fan base. The others are more well known. BG and CM have huge fan bases for a start. I wanted Sue go personally.

MarshaMelrose · 20/11/2022 23:20

Charlene went because of all the RV fakery business.
Scarlett went because she made no impact so far. And she was one of the bookies favourites so people thought her safe.

Sue has a big Corrie following.

augustusglupe · 20/11/2022 23:22

Tomorrow I'm voting for Matt, Baba and Seann.
I liked Scarlette, I think she just went under the radar because, love or hate Sue and I'm not keen myself she's a big personality and on a prime time soap.

Miss03852 · 20/11/2022 23:25

@augustusglupe

You can vote now, I just voted for those exact 3 as well. I voted CM, MH and Seann yesterday but switched from CM to Babatunde today.

2Rebecca · 20/11/2022 23:39

I didn't vote for Scarlett and suspect it's more people just not putting her first because they had never heard of her before this programme( ditto Babatunde) and have others they prefer. Surprised some people voted for Sue but I don't watch soaps so had never heard of her either. I'm sorry she's out before Sue but don't want her to win.
