Is True Blood suitable for a 14 year old?

My 14 year old has an obsession with vampires and has discovered she can stream True Blood on our Tv. I've never seen it, I doubt it's anything too terrifying but can anyone who's a fan let me know if it's unsuitable? Thanks.

Ooooh no. Far too adult!

candles22 · 21/11/2022 18:41

Thanks everyone lol, I definitely won't be letting her watch it. She had me believing it was similar to Buffy and that all of her friends watch it 🙄. It seems to have a lot of fans on here so I might have to give it a go because I love the horror genre.

Interestingly @candles22 True Blood was actually inspired by Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but it was a much more adult version of it. There are sex scenes in it, and bits of sado-masochism, and it's actually scarier and more violent than Buffy. I would definitely not let any child of mine watch it until they were 17-18 minimum. I love it but totally unsuitable for a 14 Yr old for just about every reason you could think of

Ladybird69 · 21/11/2022 23:00

There’s a series on Netflix at the moment much more suitable for young adults. It’s called shadow hunters. So good id watch it again.

DominoBlue · 21/11/2022 23:43

"I want to do bad things to you...", yes please Eric!
Far too much violent sex for a 14 year old. One of the first episodes showed a woman being strangled. The Gran being murdered was horrible too.

OP it is a really good watch, but don't let your daughter know you are watching it!

HeadacheEarthquake · 21/11/2022 23:49

Alcide🥵

mrsfollowill · 21/11/2022 23:57

Oh I loved this but I was 29 or something when I watched it- Eric- droool! not for 14 yr olds and certainly not 'family viewing'. Wouldn't have watched it with anyone other than DH in the room. To be fair we watched the lot and loved it! and I'm getting nostalgic now Grin

EternalStench · 22/11/2022 00:21

Some 18 rated stuff is ok for some 14 yr olds - like Walking Dead, but not True Blood. It's quite sexually explicit and inappropriate.

EternalStench · 22/11/2022 00:23

Definitely watch it yourself. It's a fab series.

Guiltypleasures001 · 22/11/2022 00:40

Bloody hell no op

imbacktoshowyoumydress · 22/11/2022 07:18

Try the books so much better than the series they are fab

ellebelli · 22/11/2022 09:53

I watched a few series when I was in my 30s,mainly remember Eric and alcide.
Tbh I think kids these days are used to sex and violence on TV.
I prefer my 15yr old son not to watch 18 rated series but it's happened on occasion and he tells me most of his friends do.
I would tell her to watch vampire dairies and the originals because true blood turns shit when she becomes a fairy or something anyway!

imbacktoshowyoumydress · 22/11/2022 15:02

Am I the only one who likes Bill?!

Well I wouldn't have to force myself but I wouldn't climb over Eric to get to him.

Akite · 22/11/2022 15:08

dammit now I have to watch all of them again. Absolutely inappropriate for a 14 year old. Perfect for a middle aged woman. 😂

cushioncovers · 23/11/2022 13:14

Nope it's has lots of sex and swearing in it.

Soubriquet · 23/11/2022 17:38

You want vampires?

You got:-
Buffy
Angel
Vampire Diaries
The Originals
Shadowhunters
First Kill

True Blood, is a bit too mature for a 14 year old. 16 I would say trust your judgement but 14..

The swearing and the violence isn’t what bothers me. It’s the sex. A bit too much for a 14 year old

Duttercup · 20/12/2022 20:44

Reviving this thread to say I finally went back to watch the first episode and I'm vaguely embarrassed to be watching it with my husband in the house in case he walks in. So graphic, such sex. Absolutely not ok for a 14 year old 🫠

Pinkbonbon · 20/12/2022 20:49

No, definately not. The vampire diary series I think would be OK though. im actually rewatching it atm and the first season was fine at least imo.

SkalengeckOrSiegbarste · 20/12/2022 21:06

Oooo Eric! Yes please. Agreed with what others have said. But more importantly, how are you streaming it, I want to watch again but can't find it anywhere!

It's on nowtv at the minute.
In the 'entertainment' section. Much cheaper watching it there for a month than it would be buying episodes.

I think they've a new vampire series coming out in January too with the lad thats Tom Hollands pal in spiderman.

In her defence, a lot of her friends probably do watch it. I think my mum had given up policing anything I watched by the time I got to 14! I’m not saying that’s idea parenting, but I have managed not to become any sort of deviant or be scarred for life 😉

I would give The Vampire Diaries a go. Then she’s got The Originals to watch afterwards if she liked TVD.
