New series on Netflix. Madly funny and sad - Christina Applegate is just fabulous!

Just finished watching series 3. Wow. That was an emotional rollercoaster.

Eranzer · 19/11/2022 14:06

A few episodes in, gutted that Christina Applegate may be quitting acting after this due to her MS.

Brilliant so far, very sad!

Gubu · 19/11/2022 14:23

I really enjoyed season 1 but lost interest in season 2 which disappointed me because I love Christina Applegate. Can I jump into season 3?

MrsAliceRichards · 19/11/2022 14:25

Just watched the entire third season, loved it and what an emotional rollercoaster. I think Christina Applegate is just amazing!

notprincehamlet · 20/11/2022 09:28

Can I jump into season 3?
The plot is quite fast moving and busy so it's probably a bit easier to follow if you know the story and characters so far - having said that, turns out I'd forgotten a lot of S2 but am still really enjoying S3!

I've watched the first three episodes, really enjoying it! I did watch the last two of season one and last three or four of season 2 to get back into it though and glad I did as I had forgotten lots!

Singleandproud · 20/11/2022 12:44

I've just started season 1 but binging today whilst ironing. The change in Christina Applegate from those early episodes to her getting her star on the hollywood boulevard this week is shocking and I hadn't realized she was ill again following her breast cancer a few years ago. The MS really seems to have taken its toll suddenly. Katey Segal looked fabulous and so supportive and I can't believe she is nearly 70.

Anyway back to the show....

ScreamingMeMe · 20/11/2022 18:06

I love Judy. And her wardrobe 😍

SchoolSurvey · 21/11/2022 17:07

Just finished S3 after binging the past couple of day...what an emotional roller-coaster indeed!! I was laughing more than crying for the first few episodes...and then... 😭

I watched a YouTube S1 + S2 catch up thing before starting so that helped lots, as agree so many twists and turns so hard to keep up.

Is this a spoiler-free thread or can we all start asking questions about some loose ends please?!

SchoolSurvey · 21/11/2022 17:08

@Singleandproud yes I agree re Christina Applegate, I Googled on the weekend and saw she is really suffering with her MS now. So sad. She is totally brilliant in this show.

Wishimaywishimight · 21/11/2022 17:36

Just finished - I sobbed at the end...

TitsInAbsentia · 22/11/2022 12:22

Bawled my way through the end of S3 and thought I'd got it together only to then go on and read about Christina and her Star and her MS. Still bawling.

UpToonGirl · 22/11/2022 12:27

Didn't expect to be crying through half of this last season but I have been. Really good, all the actors were brilliant.

Lentilweaver · 23/11/2022 17:45

I must be the only one who hated S 3 then. Really mawkish. It used to be a black comedy, now it's a weepie.

bigfamilygrowingupfast · 23/11/2022 18:02

Just finished watching - I'm poorly in bed so i stuck with it but had I been watching it in the evening after work I'd have probably given up 🤣 I thought it was ok but it could have been 5 episodes instead of 10. So sad about Christina Applegate - I thought she looked so different 😞

SchoolSurvey · 23/11/2022 21:35

I've been poorly in bed since Sat too, maybe I was in the mood for a pity party/sentimental sad thing!

Still unsure if we can put spoilers in here yet but let's just say the theme resonated with me on a personal level 💔

tocahairchop · 24/11/2022 09:29

It's just too sad this time 🙁

Topgub · 24/11/2022 20:13

Can we discuss the series?

I didn't enjoy it as much as the first 2

Too many plot holes and improbability.

Not as funny.

But good ending all the same

tocahairchop · 24/11/2022 20:26

Have to agree with that @Topgub I absolutely loved seasons 1 and 2. This season was just a bit too improbable and not as light...I felt it just had an air of sadness from the first episode all the way through...

SchoolSurvey · 24/11/2022 21:40

Yeah I think we should just crack on and discuss with spoilers!

I'm a bit confused about who was driving Ben's car in the hit and run... Didn't the CCTV footage show Charlie was driving it? Or was that just after the crash?

Oh there were soooo many plot holes but I think there were in the first two seasons top so just relaxed and let them all go over my head.

There were some brilliant one liners in this season I thought!

Topgub · 24/11/2022 21:53

The worst for me was the diagnosis of pregnancy via a bloody stethoscope!

Topgub · 24/11/2022 21:53

The worst for me was the diagnosis of pregnancy via a bloody stethoscope!

😂😂 Oh yeah! And the fact the doctor just told her she had cancer but a) didn't check he was speaking to the right patient (as if you'd just go by the name above the bed fgs) and B) didn't think to ask if she wanted someone with her before announcing the news of the shadows.

Still, it's not a medical drama... Or a police one thank goodness as there was lots of eye rolling going on there too... 😂

Lentilweaver · 24/11/2022 22:37

The policewoman was suprisingly obliging and willing to roll over.

Also I know the series wants us to think Judy is a saint in every way, but they overegged that pudding. It was like she had descended from the heavens and her illness was just too convenient. Expected her to be canonised by the end.

Literally which woman who has already done her share of parenting is happy to be pregnant at 47?

SchoolSurvey · 24/11/2022 23:46

Ah but then having lost precious people to cancer I can relate to only seeing the good in those people towards the end. But I know what you mean.

I didn't think Jen was happy about the pregnancy... She wasn't happy about anything ever 😂 But guess she felt she didn't have a choice. The ending was proper cheesy but it made me smile after all the sadness and most things had been wrapped up.

Loved the scene in the church when Jen was talking to the annoying choir lady and Jen said something like "oh you're so lovely and I'm just a c*nt" - I wasn't expecting that!

Maves · 26/11/2022 00:38

Season 1 and 2 amazing....disappointed with this one tbh, not sure why they had to leave it on such a sad note with Judy it all seemed a bit full of nothing really. This seems to happen slot with final ever v5 episodes of thjngs....I'm talking about you dexter/ how to get away with murder disappointing
