I'm so fed up with all the wind and rain. Luckily, none of that today but it's cold, so I'm going to put the heating on now, draw the curtains and watch back today's Father Brown, before getting dinner ready Grin

Fizzywinegum · 13/01/2023 16:39
Grin

Just started watching the Netflix series - think it might be aimed at people who don’t normally watch tennis - they’ve explained what a Grand Slam is and now they’re onto the scoring system Hmm

Seeing 9 year old Kyrgios was interesting though - looks as if he was pretty obnoxious even then!

Australia looks boiling but I wish it was just a bit warmer (and drier) here - I’m supposed to be going out later but really want to stay in (and binge watch Break Point) - seeing Matteo on the physio table has been my highlight so far Grin

Raahh · 13/01/2023 17:10

I binged all of Father Brown Grin. I've started to watch old series of Doc Martin.

I really need a lifeto find something constructive to do Grin

kazzaD66 · 13/01/2023 18:32

You and me both Raahh Grin
Loved Doc Martin. That and Death in Paradise are the only two shows DS will watch with us, except he's got to watch DiP on his own tonight, as he's now back at uni Sad

Can't think why Matteo on a physio table might be a highlight Fizzy BlushGrin

Raahh · 13/01/2023 18:48

I am a late comer to Doc Martin, so was quite sad when I got into it, and the last series was the last one ever GrinSo, I've started from the beginning.

I did that with Endeavor. The problem with watching a show that is effectively a prequel to a much later one, is that you know nothing bad can happen to the main character (not spoilers) because otherwise the later series wouldn't have existedGrinIt makes the lead character almost immortal.

Matteo on a physio table Grin. Nope, can't imagine that being of interest to anyone Grin

kazzaD66 · 13/01/2023 19:59

Oh, enjoy Doc M Raahh He's* *great. And listen to the patient names aswell. I've visited Port Isaac lots of times, so it's lovely to see it again.

I've watched Endeavour from the start but only came to Morse late because I thought, well, it's John Thaw, so it will just be like The Sweeney Grin Still need to watch the first few series of Morse Grin

Raahh · 14/01/2023 08:58

So, I've seen the schedule for Monday. And no, I don't get it. In Australia the 'big ticket' matches are the evening ones. Unlike Wimbledon, where the 'defending Champion' matches are the first Monday /Tuesday in the afternoon.. Rafa is scheduled for the afternoon match on Laver- after 2 other matches. Swiatek and Medvedev are night matches. Obviously this year, there is no women's defending champion.

Djok's match on Tuesday is already listed for an evening slot. Hmm.

(Be interesting what Eurosport choose to show though- as it clashes with KyrgiosGrin).

Fizzywinegum · 14/01/2023 11:10

I thought Rafa would be on then Raahh - it doesn’t make sense (unless Rafa asked for the earlier slot) - hopefully the matches before will be long so we might get to see a bit of Rafa - if Eurosport decide to show his match!

After watching a few episodes of Break Point I’ve come to the conclusion that tennis players lead a strange and lonely life, their hotel rooms are VERY messy and Matteo doesn’t like The Holiday film (maybe we weren’t meant to be after all Grin)

Raahh · 14/01/2023 12:03

I really don't know what the thinking is- it just doesn't feel like a 'champions' first round start. It will also be particularly rubbish if he does lose and I miss it - because then that's pretty much it for the tournament (although I do have other players I like to watch, it wont be the same)- the focus with the pundits and media will be firmly on you-know-who.

Funny short video on AO Instagram of Rafa trying to tell Sakari the next point play Grin
Also, Ash vs Iga doing a version of Sue's dustbin challenge, by the looks of it Grin
Sam Stosur will retire after the tournament aswell.

JaneJeffer · 15/01/2023 14:13

I've been looking at the draw and cursing Prime for not having it. We will probably end up watching Dick and Kokk and Cock all the time. I might go back to listening to it on the radio!

OP posts:
Raahh · 15/01/2023 14:19

Jane that is my worry. Making up for lost time, and all that. I am hoping that Dick and Kokk get so caught up in their own hype this year, they lose early.
I'm sick of reading that the spectators will be thrown out for 'booing' Djok. Well sorry- he shouldn't be such a dick then should he? Are they really forgetting that he could have changed the situation last year- that it was all a mess of his own making?

Fizzywinegum · 15/01/2023 16:41

Ugh I could have done without seeing Kyrgios on the front page of the Sunday paper magazine today - apparently his gift is also his curse (whatever Hmm)

I think all of the matches can be streamed on Discovery plus for £6.99 a month - not sure if you can just subscribe for the month and then cancel it?

I found the combination of Dick and Kokk very annoying on the Netflix doc! I’ve watched them all now - who knew that uncle Toni was such a celebrity - everyone wants a selfie with him Grin

GetTheGoodLookingGuy · 15/01/2023 16:54

I've just subscribed to Discovery+ and you can cancel after a month - I do it whenever they have a big tournament!

I'm now trying to decide what time to set my alarm tomorrow so I can watch as much of Nadal/Draper as possible but definitely not waking up before it starts - I need as much sleep as possible! Any suggestions? I'm thinking about 4:30...

Fizzywinegum · 15/01/2023 17:08

I think it says not before 3.30am for Rafa’s match Get - there’s usually quite a bit of faff anyway (especially if Rafa is involved Grin) so 4.30am is probably a good time to start watching

I think I’ll just nervously check the scores when I wake up - eek!

Raahh · 16/01/2023 06:08

I've been awake since 2am (as usual)so score watching ( Rafa started around 4am). Familiar pattern for a Rafa match these days- tight first set, then suddenly Jack was 4-0 up in the second and obviously won that. Rafa has not had the best preparation for this tournament- he needs matches. Not 5 set matches right from the start though.

I need to get ready. Will check the scores in a bit and hope to see that he's found his rhythm. Nit convinced yet though.

ChessieFL · 16/01/2023 06:13

I’ve just woken up to see the score. Not sure I’ll get to watch many AO matches now it’s not on prime - we moved a few months ago and in our old house my desk was in the living room so I could have the tennis on in the background whatever channel it was on, but now I’m in a separate room so can only stream things on my phone/tablet and I don’t think I can do that with Eurosport! Plus obviously most are on in the middle of the night…

Pleased Emma won her match.

Raahh · 16/01/2023 06:39

So looks like Rafa squandered a break in the 3rd set. But might take it in this game. Maybe.

Glad I'm not actually watching this on TV. GrinI would be yelling a bit and annoying the dog.

Raahh · 16/01/2023 06:53

So I've just come down in time to put the tv on and see Rafa take the second set. They were showing him talking to the umpire about something , but not sure what .

it looks very hot- and as it's the affternoon, they get an annoyng shadow that goes over half the court.

The other Eurosport channel is showing Coric who is trouble against Lehecka.

IceandIndigo · 16/01/2023 07:06

I’m still in NZ so in a good time zone for AO. Rafa clearly out of sorts but I still wouldn’t bet against him taking the match. I watched Jack’s match in Adelaide a couple of days ago and it seemed like he was struggling with the heat.

Raahh · 16/01/2023 07:09

Ice I do think the longer it goes on, the more it will favours Rafa. A 3 set match, and my money would have been on Jack. Rafa doesn't want too many matches like this though. It's a shame Jack had to meet him this early.
