Thanks to @lazymum99

i had missed this

UKTV channel, Alibi, has announced its first ever Nordic Noir acquisition.
From Iceland, Black Sands (Svörtu sandar) is an eight-episode series starring Aldís Amah Hamilton.

Anita, a DI in her thirties, is forced to return to the hometown she fled 14 years ago. A reckoning with her mother is inescapable, but when the body of a young woman is found, everything is upended. Anita is dragged down into the dark abyss of her past, looking for a possible serial killer and the reckoning turns into a nightmare.

The series mainly revolves around Aníta Elínardóttir, a young police detective who’s kind of “pushed out” of the Reykjavík police force but allowed to work in her old home town named Glerársandar.

There she needs to confront her mother after not seeing her for 15 years, as well as meet with all the people she left behind.

Including her old love interest, Salomon and her father figure, Ragnar.

Many would call it a crime series but we always felt it was more a family-drama, depicting how toxic family relations can become if left unresolved as well as… other… things.

need a new Sunday night drama so hope this will be good

shame 10pm tho guess can watch celeb first

Watched the first episode last night. It’s ummmm quite slow and the characters aren’t hugely appealing. I will persevere though.

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/11/2022 08:25

I will be catching up once taken mini blondes to school and watched celeb im on it

Just starting. Is it all foreign /subtitles

I do like subtitles but not foreign. I have to actually take notice 😂

I have to be in the mood for subtitles - and it has tone a good programme.

"Spiral" I got so engrossed I barely realised that I was having to read everything - same with "The Bridge".

This - not so much . . . but we'll see.

Emotionalsupportviper · 07/11/2022 12:02

*to be, not tone.

(Stoppit, Autocarrot - it's not big and it's not clever.)

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/11/2022 13:34

Carrot 😂

@Emotionalsupportviper with Spiral I was convinced my French had become fluent as I didn’t realise I was reading the subtitles coz so engrossed. However, when I turned them off I realised I hadn’t followed any of it 😂

IwantToRetire · 07/11/2022 15:43

I think this was really poor. Or rather that there are now so many euro thrillers that they all seem to have the same sort of characters and plot lines.

But maybe I would have been more open to it if I hadn't sat throught the second series of Wisting (probably still on iPlayer) and just thought why did they make it! And only got through first episode of Red Light, and same with Artic Circle. I think these are both on All4 if you are looking for crime dramas with female leads.

And there is the really silly (but maybe it is meant to be humourous) Astrid Murder in Paris. Definitely not like Spiral.

Haven't there been at least two other series about detectives going back to their small town, and instead of being a crime series it is really a soap opera.

Slightly different but has anyone watched Nine Perfect Strangers (C5) with Nicole Kidman. I have been watching but as it was only just on radio 4 as a play have spent most of the time going that didn't happen in the book! Just wondered. Not really a crime drama but a thriller or ... ?

I was exactly the same!

I felt that I really could speak Fronche "comme une Parisienne", but when I actually tried I was very much "hee-hoh hee-hoh hee-hoh" - more Kenny Everett than anything else.

I was gutted!

I haven't - and don't know how I've missed it on R4, either, because I'm always listening to stuff. I\ll have to have look.

IwantToRetire · 07/11/2022 17:17

Nine Perfect Strangers doesn't seem to be available on BBC iPlayer (apparently the book was a best seller - is that a recommendations?!)

And the tv version, ie based on but not the original, is actually C4. www.channel4.com/programmes/nine-perfect-strangers

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/11/2022 17:30

Nine strangers is fab. 3456 are on sky /ch4
