Spoilers up ahead.

Thought I'd start this one for anyone who's watched it all and wants to discuss.

So, did the horrible dad ultimately do a good thing in his awfulness going by what we discovered about Isaac by the end? It was truly bad, but was it inevitable, and did it save Isaac from many more years in a non life where he kept popping into other people's?

cushioncovers · 29/10/2022 22:31

Bit confused so was Lucy's mum the same as Lucy or was she genuinely suffering from schizophrenia?

He definitely sensed his son wasn't right at all. I hate to admit it but I think he did Issac a kindness in the long term.

Just finished watching it. I suppose because the mum wasn't supposed to be there either, she was having visions and flashbacks or whatever as well, like the girl in the smiley hat.

However, surely if Peter Capaldi has gone around doing this and changing the course of history, there'd be other kids like Isaac out there too? If he's saving people's lives, they'd eventually go on to have families they wouldn't have had otherwise because they'd have been dead.

Ultimately, I think this is one of those programmes that work best if you don't think too hard about it 🫠

countdowntonap · 29/10/2022 22:49

It reminded me of Netflix’s Dark. Did anyone else get that vibe?

Athenajm80 · 29/10/2022 23:51

What did the grandmother give Isaac? I thought it was a bullet (from when she should have killed herself) but it looked like a button? Why didn't Lucy want him to have it?

The dad was such a cunt. No wonder the kid was messed up with a dad like him, but if the boy didn't have feelings cause he shouldn't exist, then how did he start to be "normal" when the detective was around?

When Lucy died, did "time" or whatever right itself so then she was in the correct timeline?

It reminded me a bit of The Butterfly Effect

It was a button that fell off the coat Capaldi was wearing when he went to stop Lucy's mothers killing herself.

I really enjoyed this but am totally confused 🫤
I tend to doze off zone out when binge watching and need to rewatch it for it to make sense

RagzRebooted · 30/10/2022 00:33

I don't really understand how Lucy would have met Shepherd in other timelines if her current one is the only one with Isaac in. Isaac is surely the only reason she got so involved.
Why did she visit Shepherd in the future in another timeline?

Slig · 30/10/2022 01:17

I loved it.

Ending was ok.

As PP said prob best if you don't overthink it.

Still want to know why he ran over the dog! Was it going to kill the 4 year old?

ButtOutBobsMum · 30/10/2022 07:20

The bit that confused me was why he stayed alive in "the future"? He said that he hadn't ended it and stayed in prison because she'd asked him to stay alive. And when she went to visit him as her older self she appeared to have cancer but none of that was really explained. Unless I completely missed the significance!

Other than that I really enjoyed it.
Reminded me a bit of Life after Life by Kate Atkinson.

I felt really sad for little Isaac. I hoped he'd get a second go around and a happier life 😢

IrmaGord · 30/10/2022 08:25

She appeared to be a police officer/detective in the other timeline, so I assume that's how she came into contact with him. She was investigating his murder cases, although it's unclear to me whether Ravi was also a policeman? Trevor off Eastenders was at their wedding, but Lucy could've worked with him so that's how they knew each other. I don't know if I missed a bit there.

cushioncovers · 30/10/2022 09:18

"Trevor off Eastenders"

Yep he will always be Trevor off Eastenders to me as well. 😀

I've been thinking about the call from Isaac when he tells his mum that he loves her. That goes against what Gideon said about Isaac being unable to feel love. Does this suggest Isaac has a soul after all?

Goldpaw · 30/10/2022 10:29

No I think he was copying people.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/10/2022 10:48

Watched this yesterday , it was a bit long winded but the last episode drew it all together .

(BTW , Den of Geek has a good review with spoilers )

Still want to know why he ran over the dog! Was it going to kill the 4 year old?
Yes , killed the dog to save the child . And put the innards in the bucket when he was exposing would-be-rapist Connor chained up watching extreme images

I know she;s been in loads of programmes I haven't watched but when Lucy appeared at the end in Police Uniform I did think "Well it didn't end well in Line of Duty , you went through a hospital window" Halloween Shock

cushioncovers · 30/10/2022 11:04

Zombie** I assumed it was just learned behaviour that he (Issac) had picked up from his mother.

Oh no Dark was so much better than this. There was a lot more going on. This was basically just Kate atkinson's life after life but not told as well. A shame because I love Peter capaldi.

Gruelle · 30/10/2022 15:17

Gideon’s birth replaying time after time was very reminiscent of The Lazarus Project - which seemed a more efficient way of resetting time.

I kept hoping Isaac was going to kill his father, too.

Off to Den of Geek to see what they say!

Goldpaw · 30/10/2022 15:32

Gideon's birth after birth was the same as Ursula's in Life After Life, and that's the part that spoiled it for me.

It was mostly very imaginative until that reveal, and I felt a bit deflated, having only watched LAL a couple of months ago.

IrmaGord · 30/10/2022 16:03

I've just thought of another question actually. Isaac started the fire in the house, but the end scene was Lucy going to the house as the timelines merged, with Meredith's family living in Lucy's house, because Lucy had followed a different path but the house was still on fire.

So if Isaac didn't exist in that timeline, how did the house still set on fire?

Yes thats why I was disappointed. I kept thinking, but I've seen this done before, and very recently!

Netaporter · 30/10/2022 21:54

just finished it and really enjoyed it. not sure if I’ve had too much Sunday wine to understand the ending tho 🤣

yep ‘Trevor off Eastenders’ here also 😂 plus anyone else realise he was married to Granny Murray from the CBeebies show?

RagzRebooted · 30/10/2022 23:41

Did anyone else catch when Gideon was talking about aversion therapy, he mentioned making killers hate the sight of blood. Ravi can't stand the sight of murder scenes...

Gruelle · 30/10/2022 23:47

Stop it …

Season 2???
