YEY. just seen the new season is starting 23 October. I binge watched the others earlier in the month so can’t wait for it to start again. The ending was a shocker that I didn’t see coming. I can’t wait to see where they’re taking it. Will serena joy get let go because she was under his orders AND she’s having a baby. Or will she get put into jail and baby taken away when he’s born.

Lastly - Fred's body did not look like it had been "torn to pieces" - it looked rather intact! I thought the handmaids would have castrated him at least!

They were going to but the actress who plays June vetoed it apparently.

XanaduKira · 25/10/2022 20:17

Really @gamerchick, wonder why?!

I'm glad they didn't show it though as seeing June taking a chunk out of him was bad enough! Especially when she didn't clean up the blood for so long!

gingercat02 · 25/10/2022 20:38

Fred had been fairly majorly damaged. You could see ribs and all the sinues in one leg. June bit him in the throat and I assumed his genitals would have been high on the list.

She just didn't want it if I remember right. There was an article somewhere about it.

Mine too @Crinkle77 but then again, given the trauma she's been through, it's hard not to have sympathy and just accept her as she is.

Just watching ep1.

I really like that June has become unlikable through her trauma. It’s what happens in real life. So pleased they haven’t made her a pliable and forgiving woman who rises above it all. I like angry women, and I like watching them (in fiction in this case)

AlphaAlpha · 25/10/2022 22:31

Just caught up.
My thoughts are why were Fred's genitalia was still intact?!

With June not cleaning/washing, my guess is it was cleansing murdering him, and to wash would disturb the feel of being 'cleansed'.

Slow start, and I'm a sucker for spoilers and also impatient so I've caught up on episode synopsis on YouTube at US pace so I know good is yet to come.

Still a stunning bit of telly, obviously implausible, but isn't all TV?!

HauntedCabinet · 26/10/2022 08:32

I think I kind of get why they left his genitals intact (from a show pov).

I think to have removed them would risk reducing everything he did to June and other women as being 'just' about the rapes. As we've seen, they were horrific both in their happening and in the clinical way they were perpertrated. But there was also many other forms of abuse: mental and emotional abuse, removal of agency, violence, humiliation and the theft of her children.

She suffered the whole lot and I wonder if the actress didn't want to risk it seeming like it was the rapes that she was especially angry about, when there was so many other terrible abuses as well.

XanaduKira · 26/10/2022 23:24

Good theory @HauntedCabinet - makes sense.

well ive gone right back to the beginning series 1 episode 1 forgot how good it was and how awful aunt lydia was and as usual for me taking in bits i had missed

Me too! Season 1 was outstanding. Read the book for A Level many years ago and hated it but this series had me hooked and it really affected me. I had such high hopes for season 2 but didn't live up to expectations and has sadly got more ridiculous. I stick with it purely because of how much I loved season one and want to see how it plays out.

I enjoyed it, and had been thinking they should send Serena back to her beloved Gilead, once she's had the baby, with the baby staying to be adopted by normal people in Canada. But now after Fred's death she would become a kind of martyr, so should stay in Canada (in a normal prison, not the luxurious place she's been in). I also don't get the nutjobs supporting the Waterfords, surely Gilead would welcome them if they think it's so great? I'd be up for however many series they make, but must say I was not impressed with The Testaments.

dapsnotplimsolls · 30/10/2022 21:00

Blessed be episode 2.

OhAmBackAgain · 30/10/2022 21:02

blessed be the frootloops

Subtitles on this week

Faircastle · 30/10/2022 21:14

Commander Lawrence to Serena Joy on the subject of (ice) hockey:
"You'd love it. Elegant yet brutal."

XanaduKira · 30/10/2022 21:17

How on earth is Serena allowed back to Gilead like this?

Surely Tuello has no influence or status in Gilead so no right to accompany her?

Faircastle · 30/10/2022 21:18

Why is Mrs Putnam's teal a much lighter shade than all the other wives'?

dapsnotplimsolls · 30/10/2022 21:18

Loving the Lawrence/Serena sniping!

I guess it's some kind of diplomatic thing and besides Gilead probably isn't arsed about Serena. She's got no status or power as sn unmarried woman.

Munchyseeds2 · 30/10/2022 21:23

I don't think she will be allowed to go back to Canada

Mallowmarshmallow · 30/10/2022 21:27

@Munchyseeds2 ooh, I hadn't thought of that, but it would seem perfectly just. Leaving her unwanted in both Gilead and Canada.

XanaduKira · 30/10/2022 21:30

I hope they leave her in Gilead.

Poor Janine.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 30/10/2022 21:33

He's a creepy fucker even by Gilead standards

Crinkle77 · 30/10/2022 21:34

Urgh God yeah that scene was just so uncomfortable to watch.

Dogsogdog · 30/10/2022 21:34

They’ll make her a Handmaid
