YEY. just seen the new season is starting 23 October. I binge watched the others earlier in the month so can’t wait for it to start again. The ending was a shocker that I didn’t see coming. I can’t wait to see where they’re taking it. Will serena joy get let go because she was under his orders AND she’s having a baby. Or will she get put into jail and baby taken away when he’s born.

The two actors playing June and Serena are mesmerising together.

WrenNatsworthy · 05/12/2022 00:01

No, I don't think Serena will think June did it.

I think we'll see June trying to fight another system. We've seen Serena understand and feel genuine remorse, and we've seen June struggle with herself and come to the conclusion that two wrongs don't make a right.

They are superb aren't they? They have been working together so well for so long and it just gets better.

June had peace just for a moment. That's sad, but I get why Luke did it. He didn't know what had happened and didn't know what June had experienced. Wow, just for a moment I thought she might take Noah and run but it's not her, no matter what she's been through. But Serena gets to experience what she started. Karma I guess, but not at June's hand.

XanaduKira · 05/12/2022 00:22

Wonder what's on the memory stick? Glad Luke got it to Tuello!

Onthecuspofabreakthrough · 05/12/2022 00:29

How did he do it? (Up his butt?) surely the cage people would have searched his pockets!

WrenNatsworthy · 05/12/2022 00:34

Just found this great review which sums it all up really well.

I don't think he was searched - they roughed him up but didn't seem to search either Luke or June.

WiddlinDiddlin · 05/12/2022 05:39

Memory stick - i doubt they were aware it existed so no reason to search Luke for some tiny item.

Luke reporting Serena - I liked this bit, its horrible but its Luke trying to do what HE thinks June would want, but what June wanted was to do the right thing, shes deeply uncomfortable with who Gilead has made her, or the parts of her Gilead has brought to the fore, shes trying to make the right choices... and he's under mined that. Again, they're showing us that Luke and June are not a harmonious couple, theres a mis-alignment there.

But I also think that Serena would have been caught anyway, she has no right to stay in Canada having left the centre which was the same status as an Embassy (i am sure they even said that a few episodes ago). So it doesn't really matter that Luke informed on her, Serena was never getting away that way!

Still haven't worked out if the Wheelers are living on Canadian soil but Gilead believers/followers, with connections in Gilead, or are actually living in Gilead close to the border.

Serenas clearly had a rude awakening, to the fact that the Wheelers fully intended taking her child, that she holds no status and would be at best, a handmaid but most likely sent to the Colonies as an unwoman due to her controversial nature. Shes previously assumed she held some sway and was safe, and whilst that belief has been rocked from time to time, cognitive dissonance has always taken over again in the end.. but now, not so much!

Onthecuspofabreakthrough · 05/12/2022 06:58

If he gave the stick to Tuello, does that mean Tuello will know Serena is back? Surely he will do something to help her.
Not sure why I want her to be helped, maybe because I agree with June that the baby needs her the most.
It's easy to forget the amount of cruelty she must have caused

XanaduKira · 05/12/2022 07:43

I'm glad they've detained Serena. She deserves everything she gets.

Tulipomania · 05/12/2022 08:27

Hoping they will find a way of trading Serena's baby for Hannah.

OhAmBackAgain · 05/12/2022 09:09

bloody good episode.

On a different note I started watching this episode after recording it on c4 then when it got to the adverts remembered about watching on prime, so rewatched the first bit again on primeband discovered C4 had edited out tiny bits! like when June opens the back door of the car on C4 she says "are you in labour?" on prime she says " are you in fucking Labour?" it changes the whole feel of the sentence. Why are C4 being pearl clutching about 'fucking' Confused

Iliveinanoodie · 05/12/2022 09:15

The last two episodes have been so good I might have to re watch them on Prime, OhAmBackAgain

LadyEloise1 · 05/12/2022 09:16

Brilliant episode.
How was the cord cut ?

Yes - I wonder if June will offer to try to help Serena be reunited with her son if in exchange she helps get Hannah out

Neither of them have nearly enough power to make either of those situations happen

Not power, but Serena at least would probably have quite a bit of insider info.

Juicylychee · 05/12/2022 12:12

The start of the season was slow but last episode was incredible. Such amazing acting.

I'm sure she said fucking labour on Channel 4 although I watched it on All 4, so unless they changed it when it was shown live, but All4 definitely said fucking.

OhAmBackAgain · 05/12/2022 12:59

just checked on the c4 recorded one and they have definitely taken the fucking out.

TheBelmont · 05/12/2022 13:11

Can Serena claim asylum? I guess she’d need to claim persecution in Gilead which is a tough sell given she was a commanders wife and thus the person doing the persecutions

Whilst I agree that Serena is guilty and absolutely complicit in Gilead, there is still an argument that she had no choice. Her act of rebellion in speaking / reading to the council led to her having her finger chopped off and running Fred's affairs whilst he was incapacitated got her whipped by Fred, so she is also a coerced individual.

It's all very nuanced, which is why it's so great!

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 05/12/2022 14:13

I love how this show can have us backing one person one minute and hating them the next, then vice versa.

I was heartbroken when they told Serena they were taking Noah away and she started to scream. I was angry with Luke. But last week I’d have felt differently, they completely turned me around this episode

LadyEloise1 · 05/12/2022 14:34

How did they cut the umbilical cord ?
What was available to them in the "manger" ?
