YEY. just seen the new season is starting 23 October. I binge watched the others earlier in the month so can’t wait for it to start again. The ending was a shocker that I didn’t see coming. I can’t wait to see where they’re taking it. Will serena joy get let go because she was under his orders AND she’s having a baby. Or will she get put into jail and baby taken away when he’s born.

OP posts:

She’s gone to the wife school at 12 but Jayden said that they don’t stay there long. I’ve interpreted this to mean a few months but could be wrong.

Topgub · 22/11/2022 09:28

I don't get why they didn't just keep Serena in gilead though, if she's just going to be a hand maid?

She has more scope to escape in Canada

Maybe they thought there was too much risk of her networking in Gilead.

Or maybe they just couldn’t imagine any Wife wanting her as a Handmaid.

GristleToesAndWhine · 22/11/2022 11:32

Yeah, I think they thought she'd be far too much of a PITA in Gilead.

She already showed that when she went over for the funeral and started blackmailing to get her own way Grin

Serena as your handmaid would be like having a pet scorpion.

gingercat02 · 22/11/2022 16:52

Did Jayden say "the rebels" had landmines. May be that's who has captured June and Luke?

CruCru · 22/11/2022 17:34

I wonder if Jayden has been told that the rebels use the land mines. Gilead won’t want people to know that they are the ones risking their own population. Gilead doesn’t seem to put much value on individual life.

inthedeepshade · 24/11/2022 11:59

Anyone else think June is pregnant? There was that long sex scene with Luke a couple of episodes back. I think she's pregnant again and that's what will save her in Gilead this time. Otherwise surely they'd just execute her immediately.

I never thought of that.

What I did think was that if Luke gets to Gilead he might meet Nick, which is something I’d like to see.

TheBelmont · 24/11/2022 12:18

Oooh good call with the pregnancy theory! Gilead loves a baby! She will be back with Aunt Lydia before we know it….June v Aunt Lydia all over again…but with Lydia’s apparent change of heart on the regime…interesting….

Topgub · 24/11/2022 12:36

I don't think it's Gilead

EmpressaurusOfWitchesBackFromTheDead · 24/11/2022 12:37

Probably the only less desirable Handmaid than Serena would be June! She’d probably have as long as the pregnancy lasted to escape.

GristleToesAndWhine · 24/11/2022 12:49

Serena as your handmaid would be like having a pet scorpion.

It would be - but I can also see some Commanders getting a real kick out of it. An ex senior wife as your live in handmaid?

They'd go for that, I reckon.

But I bet their Wives wouldn’t! And they do seem to have some say. Aunt Lydia had to persuade Naomi Putnam to take Esther.

cushioncovers · 24/11/2022 13:16

Yeah I also think June will turn out to be pregnant which will save her in Gilead.

The Puttnams would be perfect for Serena, he would get a kick out of the ceremony, sticking it to Fred if you see what I mean, and Naomi would get her own back for all Serena effortless elegance and superiority. She would misname her at every opportunity “Serena, oops, I mean OffWarren, please get oranges when you go to Loaves and Fishes this morning…..”

I am intrigued by the Wheelers, he seems very pally with the Commanders, but isn’t referred to as a Commander. Is he a sleeper spy sent to Canada, or was he recruited by Gilead to infiltrate. There is clearly a worryingly large amount of support for Gilead in Canada, some of it fed by anti immigration and anti asylum feeling, but I think most of it is approval of what Gilead is doing to oppress mouthy women ( from the men) coupled with pressure from the women desperate for children.

incognitocheeto · 24/11/2022 16:53

They've met before at least once

EmpressaurusOfWitchesBackFromTheDead · 24/11/2022 17:10

Oh ok.

EmpressaurusOfWitchesBackFromTheDead · 24/11/2022 17:10

Oh ok.

Nick gave Luke the letters giving details of their abuse that the Handmaids had written .

I’d forgotten all about that, thanks!

colouringindoors · 24/11/2022 23:21

I just want June + Nick + Nicole .

Together.

FelizNavicrab · 25/11/2022 12:51

No!!!! (Grin)

Nick is the doomed romance. He is not a great partner, imo. Sure, he's all exciting and myserious and brooding and all that. But that does not make a great partner.

Luke is the patient, kind one. The one that's not giving up even when June is crazy. The one who took in and loved and helped raise Nicole even though she's not his but because it was the right thing to do.

If June finally settles in Nick, it'll be another mark of how much Gilead damaged her - imo Smile

CruCru · 25/11/2022 13:52

Plus Nick’s wife seems a nice woman. I’ll be quite irritated if something bad happens to his second wife as well as his first.

CruCru · 25/11/2022 13:54

I wonder if part of the point of Luke’s character is that he never lived in Gilead. His reactions are those of someone who has always been free (like the viewer).

Onthecuspofabreakthrough · 25/11/2022 14:02

Luke was an unfaithful husband in the beginning though. I mean, his character can develop! But he wasn't perfect either.
