Are there any spooky dramas coming up over Halloween?

I think it was last year we had that drama The Sister on ITV over the half term/Halloween week.

It was quite spooky. Does anyone know if there's going to be anything similar this year?

Would like something good to watch but not a full on horror movie.

The Midnight Club has just been released on Netflix, by the making of Haunting of Hill House.
I know what I will be watching...

FreezingThyme · 10/10/2022 23:21

Thanks for starting this thread. I’m a sucker for anything spooky. Will definitely give The Midnight Club a try. I loved THOHH .

anonacfr · 10/10/2022 23:31

Ok I watched one episode and unless things pick up drastically I am not holding much hope.
The first episode had been so hyped
but at no point was I scared. The cast is comprised of teens, all of them weak actors with stilted lines and a poor script to work with.
The only plus was the early 90s soundtrack.

Quality and acting wise it is nothing like Hill House.

FreezingThyme · 10/10/2022 23:48

How disappointing anonacfr. Sounds a bit crap.

Sickandtiredofbeingsick · 10/10/2022 23:59

‘The Watcher’ is out next week on Netflix. I’ve heard the story a few times on different podcasts that I listen to and it’s very creepy, so should be a good ‘spooky’ watch.

Sickandtiredofbeingsick · 11/10/2022 00:00

Oops, that was meant to say this week, not next! 🤦🏻‍♀️

I saw advertised A Friend of the Family on Peacock (available through Sky) based on a true story with great cast- it looks like a possible killer/stalky neighbour kind of story?
That might be promising but more thriller than horror.

I think A Friend of the Family is about a girl being groomed and kidnapped by a sexual predator who befriends her family.

It’s a true story and, while uncomfortable/upsetting viewing, it probably won’t be spooky.

DesMoulinsRouge · 11/10/2022 09:48

If you haven't seen it The Mezzotint is on iplayer.

anonacfr · 11/10/2022 09:50

@Waitingfordecember ok not for me then. I can't deal with that type of story- it seems to be everywhere at the moment. They have the Dahmer show, the Soham murder show....
I don't mind gore in actual horror films, but anything gratuitous and based on real life upsets me so much.

The 30m thing .

onky one I can find

love a bit of hottie chiller thriller

JanePrentiss · 11/10/2022 12:52

Midnight Club is absolutely rubbish.

It's as though someone took a teen drama and tried to make it spooky. We're 4 episodes in as early teenage dc want to watch it but it is wooden, am-dram acting with a dire script. If a production has to rely on terminal illness, scary old ladies in grey with blacked out eyes pointing at you, suicide references etc it's just shock value covering a really weak and poor script,, and acting.

JanePrentiss · 11/10/2022 12:53

Are the bbc productions from about 6 years ago of Mr James stories on I pkayer? They were fab!

anonacfr · 11/10/2022 15:38

@JanePrentiss that's what I thought after one episode, I was hoping it might get better.
Such a shame.

Sniffypete · 11/10/2022 15:43

I was thinking the other day that there wasn't anything spooky on TV for a while... there always used to be a good supernatural series on in autumn, but it's been a good couple of years since I've seen anything.

CoralBells · 11/10/2022 15:47

I watched The Haunting of Bly Manor last year. I do NOT recommend it if you don't like jump scares. There was one that actually made me feel ill. Think I'm getting too old for them. I love spooky films though. I quite liked the Mezzotint. I love Behind her Eyes on netflix.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/10/2022 15:50

Bly manor made me jump which is unlike me

FreezingThyme · 11/10/2022 19:01

I'll give Midnight Club a miss and give The Watcher a try. That sounds promising. Bly Manor and Hill House both made me jump out my skin too.

It's an MR James ghost story all done in 30 minutes. Creepy and weird no hotties though I'm afraid.

FoxCorner · 11/10/2022 19:19

The woman in black is on netflix which I liked.

ProfYaffle · 12/10/2022 19:34

The Cabinet of Curiosities is being released on Netflix on the 25th October. It's by Guillermo Del Toro so hopefully should be good.

MalbecMakesMeHappy · 12/10/2022 19:39

Red Rose on iplayer is good. And spooky!
