DH surprised me with the box set of all series of Northern Exposure this week and I think I will get nothing done before Christmas as a result!

Any other fans of Joel, Maggie, Chris In The Morning and gang?

That theme tune - I’m right back in the early 90s as soon as I hear it.

Yes, me! I used to stay up late to watch it every Monday night ☺️

Coraline353 · 08/10/2022 14:39

I have the first season on DVD and it came in a bright orange sleeping bag. Loved this show. Wish it was on streaming somewhere

cowsaysmoo · 08/10/2022 14:47

Yes yes yes! Years ago I found a DVD set of all seasons and extra bits in a charity shop! The lady in the shop thought I was a lunatic i was so excited!
But after Fleischman left it wasn't quite the same. I always hoped he'd eventually get together with Maggie.

Sahgah · 08/10/2022 14:49

Yes watches it years ago would love to watch it again

PoundShopPrincess · 08/10/2022 14:56

I loved Northern Exposure. The first season of Schitt's Creek really reminded me of it with the small town and quirky characters.

crispinglovershighkick · 08/10/2022 15:29

Yes, I loved it, should revisit.

Chrisinthemorning · 08/10/2022 15:34

Yes I love it! Wish it were on one of the screening services.

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 08/10/2022 15:38

One of the best TV shows ever! I had the box set on vhs😄

onitlikeacarbonnet · 08/10/2022 15:47

Loved it.
Periodically I search the streaming sites to see if it’s available. No luck yet.
If any of you ever find it, please start a thread telling us where we can watch it.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 08/10/2022 15:49

I loved it so much, but I don't think I watched much of it after Joel left (so last season?). The earlier ones are definitely better, seasons 1-3, then there were a few episodes creeping in where they had run out of ideas a bit.

Carlycat · 08/10/2022 15:59

I have the whole series! It's absolutely wonderful ❤️

ChampagneCommunist · 08/10/2022 16:00

It's wonderful!

mrwalkensir · 08/10/2022 16:18

Love it. Coincidentally off to the opening night of Local Hero at Chichester which was the inspiration for Northern Exposure :)

Coraline353 · 08/10/2022 16:48

Loved when Anthony Edwards came into it as the guy allergic to everything who loved in a big bubble

PinkHeadphones · 08/10/2022 16:53

I loved it. Remember when I was revising for GCSEs or maybe A Levels, working until 10pm then coming downstairs with toast and jam and a glass of milk to watch it.
I always wanted to visit Cicely which I think it really called Roslyn and is in Washington not Alaska.

whiteroseredrose · 08/10/2022 16:56

That's a blast from the past! I loved Chris in the morning.

Hilarymantelspencilsharpener · 08/10/2022 16:58

Love it - isn't it strange how there are a few things which never seem to be repeated? 2000 Acres of Sky is another one, and an Australian series called Seachange.

PoorMegHopkins · 08/10/2022 16:59

Oh that was great. I loved it. Would definitely rewatch if it turned up on Netflix or something!

JaneJeffer · 08/10/2022 17:39

I used to love it. I wonder if it would be as good on a rewatch? Some things aren't.

Frezia · 08/10/2022 17:40

Watched it back in the 90s, it was such a good program. I'd love to watch it again.

anonacfr · 09/10/2022 01:23

Oh my god I loved it so much I actually went to Alaska because of it.
Although in hindsight the barmaid and her geriatric husband were quite yucky.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 09/10/2022 09:59

What did you think of Alaska anonacfr? I always wanted to visit mostly because of Northern Exposure, but never did. Now I think I might have been disappointed by the lack of weirdness or freaked out by the over-abundance of weirdness.

InsertPunHere · 09/10/2022 10:38

Yes, even at the time Holling and Shelly was very disturbing.

it was funny on a rewatch of ER to see Mike/Mark Green’s dad was John Cullum/Holling. And the business man Joel was monologuing at in the opening scene of the pilot episode is head of surgery in ER.

Ahem.
😉

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 09/10/2022 12:53

Yes, the Holling/Shelly relationship was a jolt at the time, it's not one of those things that seemed ok at the time but weird in retrospect. I think they were very careful to make Shelly the driver of the relationship to try and reduce the ick.
