Selling the OC - Netflix

New show just launched on Netflix. Spin off from Selling Sunset, with their new office in Orange County.

I've watched the first episode and was quite enjoying it until the inevitable bitching began 😴

I was hoping to see more $$$ houses before all the bitching and backstabbing started 😆

SilverGlassHare · 25/08/2022 17:14

It’s hilariously trashy and bitchy. I really wish they’d spend more time on the houses though. I’m sure when Selling Sunset first started, there was more emphasis on the houses (obv not the later seasons).

GinandTonic1975 · 25/08/2022 18:23

I've watched a few episodes but it's just same same same as Selling Sunset all the bitchiness and talking behind each other's backs etc would like to see more of the properties, it's a bit boring really

MinglingFlamingo · 26/08/2022 08:39

I've finally found the tread on Selling the OC

I love house buying shows. Still figuring out who everyone is.

The bitchiness is a bit much

How much plastic surgery has Gio's mum had????

Mooserp · 26/08/2022 12:45

Urgh not sure I can be bothered to watch any more if the focus is bitching,

Million Dollar Listing LA does this so much better, there's the occasional argument but it's generally good fun and much more focus on the properties.

Mercurial123 · 26/08/2022 13:53

It's hardly a surprise to you that bitching would be part of or most of the show?

purplebells · 26/08/2022 16:36

I'm so surprised that people are surprised about the bitching! That's the show's whole MO! Fashion, feuding and fancy houses!

These girls do seem a bit more petty and ready to argue though. My guess is that they're already savvy about what needs to go down to make it a successful show.

But some of the bitchiness is really just downright bullying. I'm already feeling a bit sorry for some of the girls who seem to be the target of the bullying. I'm on ep 5 already and the nastiness of some girls is really starting to show.

MinglingFlamingo · 26/08/2022 16:52

Currently on holiday and it's just some trash to watch whilst I'm by the pool tbh. I zone out of most of it but I do like seeing the houses

Mooserp · 26/08/2022 16:54

I was naively hoping it would be a contrast, rather than a carbon copy of Selling Sunset.

OP posts:
Kitkatcatflap · 27/08/2022 00:54

It was too much. I really enjoyed Selling Sunset - I liked the personalities. But the people on OC are so interchangeable, I swear I cannot tell them apart - especially the men. I couldn't finish it.

SilverGlassHare · 27/08/2022 19:35

I’m not surprised it’s full of bitchiness, I’d just like a bit more focus on the actual houses as well.

@Mooserp where can I stream Million Dollar Listing, please?

MabelMoo23 · 27/08/2022 22:01

I admit, I’m loving Polly - flying the flag for the Brits, and actually rather than like “faux” reality Brit, she’s exactly like many women I know - and the fact she’s so northern! Although she’s missing a pack of Yorkshire tea

I did think the shitty do-er upper (£2.7m!!!) she went round, also had shades of Homes under the Hammer

BonesOfWhatYouBelieve · 27/08/2022 22:03

I'm halfway through the series and I feel like there are too many cast members. I don't know who they are.

But that $$$ house they showed at the start of the first episode, with the retracting roof, private beach etc was so nice! Not sure I'd want to be quite so perched on the cliff though.

I think it's on Amazon Prime. I wouldn't start at the beginning as the early ones aren't as good.

@Mooserp I'm watching Million Dollar Listing LA on Peacock if you have Sky, all 16 series but I didn't start at the beginning either, properties are fantastic!

SilverGlassHare · 28/08/2022 08:34

Thanks! We have Prime and NowTV so hopefully I can find it on one of them.

SilverGlassHare · 28/08/2022 08:38

@BonesOfWhatYouBelieve I found the shitty do-er upper’s rough location on Google Maps and I was shocked at how little outdoor space they all have - basically each home fills its entire lot, with maybe a tiny courtyard or a deck/terrace. It looked really claustrophobic and depressing, especially for $2.7 mill. Most definitely about the location, not the house!

SilverGlassHare · 28/08/2022 08:39

@MabelMoo23 sorry, I meant to @ you about the do-er upper!

Perfectlystill · 28/08/2022 08:42

Agree about Gio's mum. I had to Google her and plastic surgery came up straight away!

Not sure the people on this one are as likeable/interesting.

And Polly's weird voice is annoying.

Thethreecs · 28/08/2022 14:59

Started it last night. It's taken 5 episodes to get into it, I think Sunset took me a few episodes too, I'm sure once we get use to who's who it'll get much more interesting. When Sunset started I thought they were so glam but by the last series they were way out there, polished within an inch of their life, I think OC will be the same. They're just not as glamorous as Sunset.

By episode 5 I did a complete 360 on who I liked. At first I thought the 2 Alexandera's were immature and snobby but they are actually hard workers and are definitely not as bitchy as the rest. Polly and Alex are awful, shit stirrers and 2 faced, which I guess people love to watch, they don't come across as likeable and are just being bullies.

I'm still on the fence re Kaylah (sp), the men seem nice, they're all so young, or maybe I'm just old.

Agree that there's way too many of them, I get they probably need a lot of staff but half way through an episode someone will pop up at a lunch table and I'll be like... Who's that?

Some of the houses are awful. The price tag crazy.

Inkanta · 28/08/2022 19:41

Yes that's my thinking. Alex's smear campaign (at the start of the show) that Alexander had apparently slept with clients to get sales was unfair as there's been no evidence of that. Alex and Polly are the bullies - not the two Alexanders.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 28/08/2022 23:02

The episode when Polly, Alex and Brandi were giving Kayla a talking to was very hard to watch ... vile behaviour. Like watching mean girls at school.

Love the houses on the marina though!

Thethreecs · 29/08/2022 01:41

Well finished it just now. If there's a series 2 I won't be watching. The last 2 episodes were disgusting. That Polly and Alex are nasty. It's not even the type of bitching that pulls in viewers, these 2 are vicious, not good TV. Thumbs down on this one.

pollyputthekettleon1 · 29/08/2022 19:48

I've just finished watching this series.
The psychology aspect is really interesting and I'm not sure how much is due to the editing of the series. However, initially I was not a fan of Alex Jarvis and Alex Rose, but by the end I did a 180, and they were my favourites. They work hard and are serious. The only time they really got into a verbal fight was when they stuck their neck out for Kayla, which I think they shouldn't have bothered with because she wasn't really grateful for their professional intervention.

On Tyler; I wouldn't be surprised If his wife divorced him. He showed a complete lack of respect for her.

Alex Hall and Polly are bullies, and Kayla is a shit stirrer; office would work fine without these 3.

Perfectlystill · 29/08/2022 22:02

I've just given up midway through. The men are so young, it all just feels too contrived.

Shame, as I loved Selling Sunset.
