How on earth have I missed this, just binged watched and thought it was hilarious. It just popped up on my Netflix as a recommendation so I assumed it was new but it's several years old.

I loved all the songs, just brilliantly done and I loved trying to work out which actual musical song they were based on (I'm a massive musical fan). Just watching the live concert now.

Anyone else watched it recently? Any recommendations for similar series to watch, I have watched Jane the Virgin twice through now and loved that.

Ah I loved it OP and never found anyone else who's seen it. Loved how mad/fun it was while also tackling some pretty raw issues around mental health etc. I started it on my own and before long DH was into it too ha - we loved Jane the Virgin too.

Similar vibe series in my mind are things like The Good Place, Love, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt... all quite silly but just good fun feel good shows!

Bobshhh · 15/08/2022 10:20

Some of the best musical songs ever written in my opinion!

I watched it when it first came out and still rewatch occasionally (although I prefer season 1/2).

Adam Schlesinger, who wrote the songs with Rachel Bloom, passed away from covid which is so sad.

addler · 15/08/2022 10:40

It's wonderful isn't it? I binged it during the first lockdown and loved it. I often have the soundtrack on Spotify while I'm cooking or driving

PugInTheHouse · 15/08/2022 12:41

The songs are wonderful and so so funny. I have a bit of a crush on Nathaniel, the concert was very funny also.

That's so sad re the song writer. They are very cleverly written. I am really going to miss watching it.

I will definitely be adding the soundtrack on my Spotify.

I loved the first two series especially and quite often say to myself about black and white takes on the world that "it's a lot more nuanced than that."

PugInTheHouse · 15/08/2022 15:59

I loved the first 2 series as thought original Greg was brilliant. The new Greg would have been fine if he had been there in the beginning I think.

I really hate it but have still watched a lot of episodes

It's just all the wrong messages to me. I realise it's not supposed to be serious, but it still seems to be emotional abuse and manipulation and that's funny?

PugInTheHouse · 15/08/2022 16:40

It does make fun of those situations (the thrn thsts what black comedy is i guess) but I feel like it works itself out in the end.

Not sure what those typos are all about Grin

I loved it! Never Have I Ever is quite similar, though not a musical.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 15/08/2022 17:02

Love it!

I sometimes listen to belt out the songs in the car.

I love the references to musicals - les mis, la la land, spice girls, billy joel, cats, disney...

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 15/08/2022 17:02

If you have disney you might like only murders in the bathroom.

Germolenequeen · 15/08/2022 17:04

I love it and am always recommending ☺️

Sulusu · 15/08/2022 17:11

It's a fantastic show! It manages to be funny and heartwarming at the same time dealing with serious issues. All with a fantastic original soundtrack.

SteveHarringtonsChestHair · 15/08/2022 17:11

I’ve watched it all several times! First time on my own then got XP to watch it with me. He loved it surprisingly, although went off it a bit during the Trent series Grin. Then I watched it twice with DD (15) who had heard me raving about it but didn’t get it until she watched it.

We often sing and quote from it, including “please don’t be a murderer” “you ruined everything …you stupid bitch” and “let’s generalise about men”

XP and I always said that if we got married we’d have “Let’s have intercourse” as our first dance Grin

I was team Greg all the way until
new Greg rocked up and ruined it, but we all hated Josh.

SteveHarringtonsChestHair · 15/08/2022 17:13

And finding myself now single after a string of shitty relationships I’m looking for my Rebetzels or musical to find the real love of my life in creating something amazing, not in a man.

ItsMutinyontheBunty · 15/08/2022 17:15

YES! My people!!
I watched it as it was released (following a MN recommendation). I love it so much. The songs are brilliant, the ending is perfection. I remember thinking “Who will it be?”, I was always Team Greg, then I suddenly realised how it needed to end and they nailed it. I love the songs and have them on shuffle while I’m cleaning/cooking. No-one else is singing my song is my favourite.

PerfectRun I know what you mean, it’s bleak at times..but it’s focused on Rebecca (and her friends’) growth and learning from mistakes. It’s actually very well done.

PugInTheHouse · 15/08/2022 17:18

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll check them all out.

I'll definitely be recommending although it's probably for a quite specific audience.

One of my favourite shows! I've watched most episodes more than once.

So silly and fun and heartwarming and great songs. Follow Rachel Bloom on Instagram - racheldoesstuff

Building not bathroom! 😉

NellesVilla · 15/08/2022 17:20

Adored it and was slightly in love with both Rachel Bloom (Rebecca) and Nathaniel- wish they’d ended up together. I loathed Josh and Valencia. The woman playing the best friend is a simply fabulous Broadway star irl.

Loved the crazy songs like: Period Pants, Santa Ana Winds and The Sexy Getting Ready Song. Mad but great.

PugInTheHouse · 15/08/2022 17:23

@SteveHarringtonsChestHair yes all those songs are fantastic. I love them in the concert as well. That would be brilliant as a first dance, I might get married again just to have it!

ZombeaArthur · 15/08/2022 17:25

Dollface on Disney plus has some great surreal elements and stars Kat Dennings who’s fabulous.

PugInTheHouse · 15/08/2022 17:25

Yes, I wasn't keen on Josh either. Didn't like Valencia till she became one of the girls.

I was so impressed with how good they all were in the concert, I absolutely hate it when they use actors who can't sing for musical roles when there are millions of super talented people out there.
