new thriller /spooky drama

Red Rose is set in Bolton during the long, hot summer after GCSEs and follows a group of childhood friends.

Wren (Amelia Clarkson) and Rochelle (Isis Hainsworth) are on the cusp of a summer of fun with their tight-knit gang – including Wren’s crush Noah (Harry Redding) – after finishing their GCSEs.

But when Rochelle downloads a mysterious phone app called Red Rose, it kickstarts a terrifying campaign of dangerous demands, which exposes the friends to a seemingly supernatural force. Who or what is Red Rose?

"Wren and her friends are excited for no school and no rules. It’s set to be a summer with everything ahead of them," says Amelia Clarkson, 24, who’s starred in Poldark and The Last Kingdom.

"But Wren’s romantic interest in Noah causes Rochelle to feel jealous, and the collapse of their friendship is awful timing considering what Rochelle goes through with Red Rose,’ she adds.

‘Rochelle becomes isolated, and the phone itself becomes this kind of phantom amongst the group, which is truly terrifying."

I thought it was an excellent episode but I felt something was lacking to the ending although I'm not sure what. I wonder if any ending could have satisfied me after finding each episode riveting though.

i did like them finishing it in Japan though.

I think there will be a s2 due to Tokyo and the ping

ok. My take on it is

so basically Jacob designed an app to spy on Alyssa to find things out about her to make her like him

she didn’t fancy him

The app then got on the dark side of the web

people paid money to see people get tortured and die

When they didn’t perform as such, they were helped, like Alyssa being pushed off roof and Rochelle being murdered

wren killed the man but her father took the blame bless him

not sure why he didn’t run before police came

but would be self defence

the gardener was a lady who seemed to like the friends hence why she helped them to see how far wren would go

I think we all would kill if push comes to shove and we had to ………

Ok, so now you’ve watched I can ask a few bits.
When Ros was seeing her mum, was it video somehow played or did they make her imagine it?
How did the app go from being something he created with a few friends to being an onlooker that lost control? How did it end up on the dark web?
I think it left it open for season 2. Reminded me a little of Squid Games.

not sure why he didn’t run before police came

because he'd been stabbed in the leg 😂

Actually I don't think he had chance really. Plus this way there would be no investigation to implicate Wren.

not sure about a S2 - I don't think it would work as well.

SoupDragon · 07/09/2022 15:24

the ghosts were videos. The ones of Rochelle's mum never had her face so I don't think they had any real footage to work from.

Jacob gave The Gardener admin rights to the app which meant they could mess with Alyssa's house and subsequently take the app onto the dark web I think. They turned it into the bad thing it became with nasty people wanting to watch more bad things happen to the kids and participate in them.

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/09/2022 17:07

Ah good point. He couldn’t run 😂

😂 he could have hopped it

I do think the real reason was so that there would be no way Wren could be blamed
