Am I the only one who likes Kyrgios? (Runs and hides!)

What is it that you like? (Genuine question, not a snarky one. I can’t see anything remotely appealing…)

magimedi · 02/07/2022 21:44

Such a shame that an amazing player like Kyrgrios is such an ankle!

If I were the umpire I'd have defaulted him & sent him off very early in that match. I thought the umpire was apalling at letting Kyrgios get away with all he did.

Mind you, my heart is just not in this years Wimbledon - I have yet to watch a match that has kept me enthralled for the duration.

It's either age or covid or no longer being in UK!!

This is what I dont understand.
He uses his chuntering during every break to disrupt the flow and concentration of the opponent.
Its a tactic
He knows exactly what hes doing and Stefano became really reactive as a result.
To see Nick then do the 😊 in the interview, jeepers hes so manipulative grrrrr

bizzey · 02/07/2022 22:01

What an evening!
Not only did Stefanos loose ...my toy did not turn up in my McDonalds happy meal !
Gutted on both accounts!
(DC's getting take away ....I just wanted a nibble ...and I am a big kid at heart and like collecting the happy meal toys !!)

Raahh · 02/07/2022 22:11

bizzey that is very disappointing Grin

Fizzywinegum · 02/07/2022 22:15

Oh no sad about your happy meal toy bizzey

Stef has called Kyrgios a bully - I think he’s got a point. Someone should do something about him. The umpires need to stick to the rules - he knows he can get away with his bad behaviour and people call it entertainment

JaneJeffer · 02/07/2022 22:22

I'm so pissed off about him and the glorification by the BBC that I have a headache.

He so is a bully and his outrageous behaviour surpasses all other bad behaviour. There’s no doubt he has skill and talent (when he can be bothered to use it) but in what other arena could he get away with such displays of obstreperous tantruming? But like I said, he gets away with it because he’s a crowd puller, and big crowds equals more money. It’s really not fair <has tantrum of her own>

@magi I understand how you feel :(. It’s not the same for me either - now that Juan has gone I don’t feel the same enthusiasm I once did. Hoping I can get back into it though because tennis was once such a big part of my life. I even used to watch all the lesser tournaments through my Tennis Tv subscription and now this Wimbledon is practically the first tennis I’ve watched in five years :(.

JaneJeffer · 02/07/2022 22:41

Watching the Stones to cheer myself up.

@Elderflower14 I can't help but like Kyrgios a little bit too. I must admit he is an absolute arsehole and his behaviour was completely unacceptable. He is electrifying to watch though.

oviraptor21 · 03/07/2022 00:28

I switched courts after the second set. Maybe the umpire didn't understand that being called dumb is a pretty bad insult?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 03/07/2022 01:47

the crowd loved kyrgios and tbh i wanted him to win as i couldnt cope with what would happen if he lost.
i wanted the best player to win and stef was also in a strop

MrsLargeEmbodied · 03/07/2022 01:53

nick also another player who doesnt have a coach

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 03/07/2022 08:20

good article by John Lloyd today (although it is the Mail) criticising the umpire for losing control of the match and not stamping his authority on it at the first sign of trouble from Kyrgios, which I completely agree with.

Also says that if he makes it through to the semis, he could meet Rafa, who will not let him get away with the kind of behaviour he displayed last night!

Tsitsipas’s press conference heart-breaking: Kyrgios really is such a tool.

MarshaBradyo · 03/07/2022 08:26

Oh I missed Kyrios match

Wish I’d seen it now

We had to stop watching - it was really uncomfortable to watch. Imagine you were just watching a really nasty teenager bullying someone relentlessly for hours, surrounded by adults who were meant to be in charge but did nothing to make it stop and you were powerless to intervene yourself. It was horrible. I never had any respect to lose for Kyrgios anyway but I’ve lost a lot of respect for Wimbledon.

Fizzywinegum · 03/07/2022 09:37

I think Nick is a bully - he says that he had a bit of backwards and forwards with the umpire - it was much more than that. He minimises his own behaviour and exaggerates other people’s behaviour to deflect from his awful behaviour

I’ve not read that article TheOnly but I agree that umpires should have more control over him - his behaviour does affect his opponent - it’s not about the tennis any more. I just find watching him really uncomfortable - it is like watching a bully picking on someone smaller in the school playground

I really hope that he doesn’t end up playing Rafa at Wimbledon - maybe players and umpires should start saying that they’re not going to play him/referee his matches if he carries on with his behaviour?

MarshaBradyo · 03/07/2022 09:42

It sounds bad. Times Radio talked about it a bit which piqued my interest

They mentioned firing balls at the opponent’s body, I hadn’t thought of the reality that but it reminded of an Aus cricket movie from ages ago

From reading on here he sounds a bit out of control, but I’d have to watch

Fizzywinegum · 03/07/2022 09:48

Marsha yes Tsitsipas firing balls straight at Kyrgios wasn’t ideal either but Nick has also done that to his opponents in the past (including Rafa)

MarshaBradyo · 03/07/2022 09:50

Oh I thought it was Kyrgios

sorry am in the dark was out all day and feel I’ve missed out!

absolutelynotfabulous · 03/07/2022 09:53

His behaviour was terrible but I bet I'm not the only one who switched over from Rafa to watch him - and stayed watching😎

Awful but riveting nonetheless.

shedwithivy · 03/07/2022 10:00

Did you see the press conference. He was even bullying the female journalists asking sensible questions and turning it back on them, rolling his eyes. gaslighting tsisipas. Saying no one likes him in the locker room. Terrible.

IceandIndigo · 03/07/2022 10:01

Kyrgios is a total narcissist. His comments reminded me of something Trump would say, going on about how many friends he has and how the crowd loves him. Ugh. That serve though…

IceandIndigo · 03/07/2022 10:03

Interesting to see how Nakashima will go against him. He was cool as a cucumber against Shapovalov, who was also acting up.

YES, exactly this. He is so much like trump.

We began by watching Kyrgios as watching Rafa makes me stressed if he starts to do badly 😂 but had to switch over in the end because I found it too distressing to watch the Kyrgios match descend into such ugly chaos.

Maybe I should just stop watching tennis 😂

Anyone else really miss the days of Federer and his Wimbledon cardigan? Back before tennis became some kind of WWE event?
