I was just coming on make the same point about ranking points, but you’ve all beaten me to it! Seems cruel that somebody like Harmony Tan, who’s having the fortnight of her life, won’t see any rankings benefit from it…

JaneJeffer · 02/07/2022 16:21

Well done Simona

Iga in trouble

Raahh · 02/07/2022 16:52

Appropriate that's just it- if, for example, Tan was to go all the way- she potentially loses out on the chance 2000 points (having not played last year) and the chance to be in the top 20. She's outside the top 100 at the moment- so in theory, has to qualify for the majority of events.

Iga not having it all her way, I see.
I'm glad to see Halep is through.

Petra has a break of serve.

I think I will have to take the dog out for a quick walk before the rain comes back Grin

theskyisbluernow · 02/07/2022 17:19

Heather and Harriet snuck through the LD off the radar today.Good for them.

theskyisbluernow · 02/07/2022 17:20

@Raahh where are you in the constant rain?!

GrouchyKiwi · 02/07/2022 17:22

I don't think I've ever seen Cornet play like this. I thought Iga had turned the match around with her break at the start of the set.

Raahh · 02/07/2022 17:26

thesky Manchester Grin It ws supposed to be really bad again this afternoon, but seems to be holding off (which is good, as dd2 is wih her friends at a festival in local park).

Fizzywinegum · 02/07/2022 17:27

Eek not looking good for Iga!

AppropriateAdult · 02/07/2022 17:28

Exactly, @Raahh - it’s very hard on her and others in similar positions. That said, I don’t agree with Wimbledon’s ban on Russian players and I can understand why the WTA/ATP made the decision it did. But it punishes the players more than the tournament, unfortunately.

Raahh · 02/07/2022 17:31

Appropriate it does- and the massive irony that Medvedev (a Russian who can't play) benefits more than most players says it all really.

JaneJeffer · 02/07/2022 17:32

Where's Iga's notebook?

OP posts:
AppropriateAdult · 02/07/2022 17:32

Bit of a mess all round 🙁

Gosh, Ida’s on her way out here…

Raahh · 02/07/2022 17:32

I think Iga's lack of grass practice might be showing. She seems very off her game, but Alize is playing one of the matches of her career.

AppropriateAdult · 02/07/2022 17:33

Iga, obviously!

JaneJeffer · 02/07/2022 17:35

Well done Alize. She's improving with age. She got to the Bad Homburg final and now this. I thought she had gone off to write books Grin

Nice of her to stop to sign autographs when she’s just lost 👏👏

JaneJeffer · 02/07/2022 17:39

Good wine GrinWine

It was lovely to see Iga signing autographs. Good on her.

Well done to Alize. I'm enjoying her interview.

JaneJeffer · 02/07/2022 17:40

Jenny Drummond knows her stuff.

Wow that man's T-shirt is colourful!

Raahh · 02/07/2022 17:41

Now Iga is out, I would love to see Jabeur, or Halep take the title I think. I've a feeling Kvitova migh lose to Badosa, sadly. She could still turn it round.

ChessieFL · 02/07/2022 17:41

Well I didn’t expect that. Disappointing for Iga but a great result for Alize.

Raahh · 02/07/2022 17:42

Sue's voice sounds better today.

PlanetNormal · 02/07/2022 17:42

That is the sporting upset of 2022 so far, without question. Every player left in the women’s draw will now believe they can win Wimbledon.

Très bien et bonne chance, Alizé! 👏👏👏
