Watching on a delayed start... Surely Black Forest Gateau was big in the 1970s not the 1980s???

That's what I said to DH. Black Forest Gateau was a 70s dinner party staple for my DPs

Well that was a surprise.
I won't tell you who won as you're behind 😉

The first two puddings have come out and imo have too much piled on them!!

Thoroughly disappointed with the winner.

Loved Monica cracking bad jokes all night.

Nice little program,e though. Winner seemed right- a trifle will cope with less than perfect presentation
but how many people are having a street party? We aren’t..don’t know anyone who is!
and I’m not sure people will still be making it in 100 years…it’s a variation on a trifle isn’t it….

I thought winner was perfect. Ideal for a party and looked the part. Better than the cakes imo. I thought the tart would win as it was unusual but actually the trifle had more of a wow factor. Worthy winner. Might give it a go!

I thought the whole idea was to make something unique but that people at home could replicate? Not sure any of them were unique just bits and pieces from other cakes.
Think I'll still to a good old Victoria sponge.

I was just disappointed as it wasn't a new dessert. A jubilee trifle is just going to be called a trifle in a couple of months. Not something that becomes a street party essential.

The tart and the first one with the rhubarb looked too hard to recreate at home though.

My Mum is watching with me. She's just commented and said how the hell would you get it out of the dish and how would you reach the Swiss roll..? It was my favourite but it would prob look a mess dolloped into a bowl.

Most of them would be quite hard for your average person to recreate unless they had a bit of experience. The trifle looked and sounded great though.

We’re having a street party; Amy excuse for a booze up down our way.. and we have an army major proposing a loyal toast to the Queen.

Carrot cake was mid 80s I'd say. I remember when I first had it, 1985 and it was called passion cake.
Black Forest Gateau was 70s. You'd think they'd have get their facts straight.
That trifle looked delicious, but don't think it should have won. I think it should have been the Bundt or Tart.

Trifles are supposed to look a bit messy though, you just spoon them out for each person with a bit of each layer. I like a messy trifle

Does anyone know when they are going to release the recipe?

I would like to make it, not necessarily for the jubilee.

Very disappointed with that one winning! Loved the flowery cake (but hard to replicate) and loved the Crown Cake too. That trifle was just a big dollop though really. And very difficult to recreate if vegan or dairy free as no really good whip cream vegan alternatives out there. You'd also better hope it's not a hot day as that cream sitting in the sun.... 🤢 Ah well, no street party here anyway!

The trifle looked lovely. I think I'd cheat and buy a lemon swiss roll from M & S though.

Surprised the Duchess of Cambridge didn't find the tart most resonant

We’re having a street party. Council has authorised closing the street. Bunting, tables, chairs, DJ ordered. Any excuse for a street party but then our neighbours are a laugh 🤩. My mum is having a party where she lives and 1000 are coming 💪🏻
