Sewing Bee, Bake off, Pottery Throwdown, Interior Design Masters, Masterchef... What's your 'skillful competition' show of choice?

As above really!

I like them all although don't watch Pottery Throwdown as much anymore. Love Masterchef but I think the best programme is probably Sewing Bee. I'm not sure why, it just always seems to capture something really special about the contestants.

What's your favourite, and why? Oh I don't sew, throw pots, design or cook/bake much. Are you influenced by actually sharing the relevant skills?

BlueRaincoat I get these programmes on Sky Arts which is on my Freeview telly. Worth checking.

What ever anyone says, the Top Model franchise pretty much created this genre (with the exception of perhaps MasterChef).

Top Model is my ultimate comfort telly.

Just as a follow up on this thread, because of the recommendations I watched and really enjoyed Season 1 of Glow, but ram out of steam about halfway through season 2. Good show though.

Also.managed to series link some old re-runs of Portrait Artist of the Year and am currently binge watching it. LOVE IT. What an inspiring show. I used to like to paint, might dig the paintbrushes out.

So thanks for the recommendations!

I love Sewing Bee, Pottery and GBBO in that order. I have a terrific crush on Patrick but also a soft spot for crying Keith.
I love all the fashion ones too - Project Runway especially.

DisforDarkChocolate · 23/06/2022 20:38

Pottery, I love Keith.

Sewing bee and masterchef professionals are my favourites. I like pottery throw down but I find the crying ridiculous it might be endearing occasionally but goes too far.

Love Sewing Bee and I had hopes for Sara Pascoe, after Joe Lycett became a parody of himself, but she’s going the same way. The ridiculous singing this week was beyond annoying.

A few of my thoughts:
Masterchef is OK but is getting a bit tired. There are too many heats, and it all gets a bit samey. I also think it’s time for a rejig of the presenters. John and Gregg just seem bored by it all.
Masterchef Celebs is usually ruined by certain of the celebs doing their little acts for the cameras (Joe Swash was a particular offender). The Professionals is OK but could also do to ditch Gregg, and I don’t know how it will fare without Monica when it comes back.
I like Sewing Bee but haven’t been into the current series as much as I’d hoped. I find Sara Pascoe’s links really terrible. Love Patrick and Esme.
The jewellery one had promise I think but could do with some changes if they bring it back. The host was not suited to the format at all, and the staging was a bit dingy. I liked the contestants and what they were doing (and I warmed up to the judges).
I’ve enjoyed the last two series of the interior design one with Allan Carr.
Great British Menu was past its sell by date years ago. A pet hate of mine is the themes - they are so artificial. Also, everything is so dragged out and repetitive - it’d be better if it was maybe just one hour-long show. The new judges are better than the old ones though IMO.
I’m kind of over Bake Off. I barely watched the last series. I did used to really enjoy it, so maybe it’s the presenters (there are some issues there IMO), or maybe it’s just had it’s day.
Has anyone watched The Prince’s Master Crafters on Sky Arts because I’ve really enjoyed that. It’s about heritage crafts, and seems to be sponsored by Prince Charles. The final is next week. I hope they bring it back.
