I know Kylie is a sacred cow, but did anyone else think she was crap on Jools Holland's Hootenanny?

She may make great pop records but a sultry piano-top chanteuse she ain't...She just doesn't have a great voice, which is fine for what she usually does, but not much else.

Yuk, Paul (thumbs aloft) McCartney

notnowbernard · 09/01/2008 20:17

Or that FUCKING V-SIGN!

CloudAtlas · 09/01/2008 20:20

oh he's a twunt, I though I was going to get bollocked then, it's like he's some sort of Great British Institution or something the way some folk carry on. I saw him at Glastonbury, and whilst there were some fab moments during some Beatles classics like Hey Jude, the rest was absolute crap, and he even played some of his new twoddle, the arrogant git! He is SOOOO uncool too, yes, the 'v' sign thing. Twunt!

rantinghousewife · 09/01/2008 20:22

Oh no, I am one of the few people I know who doesn't rate the Beatles at all, in fact am in complete agreement with Mark Lamarr when he says they only ever made one good record. And I agree with him about the record too

CloudAtlas · 09/01/2008 20:23

what record was it?

SenoraParsnip · 09/01/2008 20:24

since when is Kylie a sacred cow? maybe she is over on Loaded's message board but here she is neither sacred nor a cow.

macca is an arrogant git too. we liked the man with the "mississippi drum machine"

rantinghousewife · 09/01/2008 20:24

Tomorrow never knows.

notnowbernard · 09/01/2008 20:25

Rantinghousewife, I'm a member of your club too!

(I do quite like Lucy in the Sky though)

Which is the song that you rate?

CloudAtlas · 09/01/2008 20:26

Didn't watch it all, can't remember drum machine man, but I liked Kate Nash

rantinghousewife · 09/01/2008 20:27

Don't mind Lucy in the Sky but it's not on my all time list of favourites.
Mind you when Lamarr said that, dh rolled his eyes at me and said 'See, that's how weird you are, Mark Lamarr is in complete agreement with you'

notnowbernard · 09/01/2008 20:27

Kate Nash good.

Better than Lily Allen.

KN only 20!

notnowbernard · 09/01/2008 20:28

RH - a compliment, surely?

rantinghousewife · 09/01/2008 20:28

Lily Allen [boak] to me she just sounds like UB40!

rantinghousewife · 09/01/2008 20:29

NNB, well I was quite chuffed!!

CloudAtlas · 09/01/2008 20:29

lol at ub40, I liked ub40!!

rantinghousewife · 09/01/2008 20:30

CA, I believe they make pills for that nowadays

paulayatesbiggestfan · 09/01/2008 20:31

never rated kylies squeaky voice the odd good popsong tbh
macca makes me chunder

Monkeytrousers · 09/01/2008 20:32

She isn't a diva is she? She's a pop star, and a very good one at that.

There are plenty of men who are singers but have individualistic voices. I thought she was great, though some drunk woman at the NY party I was at really embarressed herself by being really bitchy and bitter about her - just made me

marina · 09/01/2008 20:32

I thought Mika would be rubbish and was pleasantly surprised
And at the Kaiser Chiefs phoning it in, snore
Paul McCartney was dire as ever, can't stand the man
Agree that it was a less good line-up than usual overall
Still love Jools and the Band though

Monkeytrousers · 09/01/2008 20:34

I have heard her sing live adn sing beautifully too, so maybe it was just an off night

notnowbernard · 09/01/2008 20:34

It's all the associated arse-licking that goes on round PM that makes me heave... I mean, why? I just don't 'get' it

Am I missing out on something? I know many consider the Beatles to have made an outstanding contribution to the cultural landscape of Britain (yawn) but the level of brown-nosing is staggering!

rantinghousewife · 09/01/2008 20:40

NNb, wholeheartedly agree with you on that. Did you see that Paul Morley thing on BBC4 last night about the perfect pop song?

notnowbernard · 09/01/2008 20:41

I didn't

snowleopard · 09/01/2008 20:42

Actually I liked the maggot dress and the fact that she had a few pounds on her and actually looked like she might be in her late 30s. It suited her. But yes she should NOT be singing slow torchy songs and lying on a piano - her voice just hasn't got it - and I don't believe Jools was one bit impressed - he probably had to have her on against his will. She's lovely but he is a proper muso and he must have known it was a terrible idea.

She has put out some great songs though - not written by her obviously but well-chosen for her voice.

But (goes into heat mode) what gets me about her is when is she going to take a step back? She is all public persona, constant appearances, tours etc. She had cancer and even that didn't seem to make her rethink or decide to take a year off and have a break. It can't go on!

rantinghousewife · 09/01/2008 20:44

Well the Beatles weren't on it?
