Anyone else excited for this? I've literally just finished re-reading the book, really hope they do a good job with it!

Oh i didn't know but thanks for the heads up I'll certainly watch it!

darlingdodo · 17/04/2022 18:22

One of my favourites so I hope they don't muck it up. I love Kate Atkinson.

The audiobook read by Fenella Woolgar is superb.

MistyFuckingQuigley · 17/04/2022 18:44

I cannot wait for this! Love the book!

I loved this.
I'm not in UK. Do you think it'll be available on any streaming service that isn't iPlayer?

Wouldn't have thought so unless its a joint production. Although I've seen BBC stuff on Netflix so after a while it could end up on there.

I'm currently re-reading; not sure they will manage the 're-starts'. Have decided to re-read all her books, they are in a pile by my feet. Her latest book is out in September.

User237845 · 17/04/2022 23:30

Looking forward to this too. Hope they don't ruin it like they did the Jackson Brodie series by squishing it down too much. Ridiculous that each book was condensed into an hour. None of the clever humour came across.

I'd already starting re-reading A God in Ruins too Grin

I loved the book which makes me nervous about what they will do with it in a tv series.
I’ve been saving the most recent Jackson Brodie because I don’t want to finish the series!

MistyFuckingQuigley · 18/04/2022 09:04

I only got about a third of the way through A God in Ruins, it didn't grip me 🤔 I'll have to try again.

KatieKat88 · 20/04/2022 13:48

I enjoyed the first one - I like Sian Clifford so nice to see her as Sylvie! Going to avoid an iPlayer binge and watch week to week I think.

My favourite book - I'm a bit anxious about it!

It's definitely not as good but it has a truly spectacular chapter about two thirds of the way through which really brought it all together for me.

No, I didn’t enjoy that one

I loved Life after Life. What's the best one to read next? Looking for a good book to take on holiday...

Have you read the Jackson Brodie set starting with Case Histories? If not, then those! I think there are 5; she wrote the fifth one after doing life after life, god in ruins and transcription. They are perfect holiday reading.

I’ve binge watched the whole lot. I couldn’t help it, it was so well done. Exactly how I pictured it in my head when reading. Albeit Foxes corner is larger than I imagined

Glad it lived up to your expectations! I always imagined Foxes Corner to be massive as they're pretty posh 😆the first episode has made me hate Maurice even more than in the book, why do they let him get away with being such a brat?!

OverByYer · 21/04/2022 06:45

I know! They didn’t do him any favours!

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 21/04/2022 22:23

I read the book when it came out and though I liked it, I thought it was confusing and fragmented - lots of lives but no real definitive one. Really enjoying the series, am about to start the final one now. It does live up to the book for me. (though I was disappointed not to hear about kippers every Friday, they used stew instead ....)

I'm really enjoying the dramatisation. It's beautifully filmed and I want all of Ursula's wardrobe.

Without any spoilers, I think the depiction of Ursula at the end of episode 3 was way off beam for a woman of her age at that time (note the song playing which dates it). She's only a couple of years older than our narrator Lesley Manville!

woodhill · 21/04/2022 22:26

Yes I loved this, watched 2 episodes

I read the book ages ago but remember bits of it.

Love KA

LethargeMarg · 23/04/2022 09:02

I'm a bit disappointing they missed out the Millie storyline which was one of the most memorable parts of the book for me otherwise really enjoying it
