Anyone else excited for this? I've literally just finished re-reading the book, really hope they do a good job with it!

I loved it. Possibly favourite thing I have watched on TV this year.

Spoiler alert re Nancy for anyone wanting to read the book - the shawcross family have lots of girls one -Millie-is friends with Ursula and one - Nancy- is best friends with teddy. There is an earlier storyline when a little girls body and she has been 'interfered with' is found in a ditch and a grieving World War One mother becomes attached to the body ....years later in the sad Derek storyline after the abortion Nancy goes missing and is found in a trough also killed and interfered with and everyone is devastated especially teddy but also Ursula and it feeds into her drinking meeting Derek etc , in a later storyline Ursula gets the fear but can't work out why but knows she has to do something and as she runs out to the lane she finds Nancy collecting leaves and as she takes her back to the house a tramp leaps over the fence and looks startled and hurried away , there's another later one where again they are too late and Nancy is killed and I think Ursula sees the tramp in the field after he's killed Nancy . It gave the book a really sinister undertone (although I love the book) and I was always hoping in each life Nancy would be saved . I think it was a good contrast to the seemingly idyllic life at fox cottage.

I've loved it, but the ending was not the same, which was a disappointment. The last chapter is at the end of the war, and Ursula and Nancy go to meet Teddy in a pub. He's been in a prison camp for the last two years, and greets them happily. It's a lovely ending, and I was looking forward to seeing it!

thank for the reminder, I’d forgotten the Nancy storyline, not sure how as remember now finding it the most difficult to read and the dread I felt.
I will have to read again

OMG
the stupid bbc iPlayer app defaulted to episode 4 so I've just watched the last episode thinking it was the first
I've read the book so I wasn't lost but I was confused about where and why the story was starting there and the lack of exposition...
fuck sake! Grin

Thank you, @LethargeMarg. I remember now. How could I have forgotten that? My brain, jeez.

Yes, @Clawdy, and Teddy says thank you to Ursula, as though he knows it's her doing? I thought the ambigous ending was quite good in the TV programme though.

How annoying about the iplayer, @CloseYourEyesAndSee Hmm

Watched the last episode yesterday, as others have said it isn’t often a series is so well done, I am energised to go and dig out the books again ( they are on the back bedroom shelves somewhere) I forget what an amazing writer she is for years, then remember and then have to binge her!
