Jeremy Kyle Death on Daytime

Just watching this on catch up. Forgot what a judgemental arrogant s**tshow this actually was. How it wasnt cancelled sooner was incredible, it was only a matter of time before someone was driven to desperation, the condescending bullying way guests were spoken to.
Interestingly Graham Stanier the unqualified counsellor hasn't been mentioned yet. I always found him creepy and insincere and absolutely the last person anyone would open up to.

Just watching this now. What an odious little man!

chanceux · 14/03/2022 15:25

I watched both parts, I was pretty shocked to be honest. Jeremy Kyle is a horrible man.

I wasn't a fan when he was on tv every day. It was so stressful to watch all that shouting and upset.

There is a thread on this in AIBU if you are interested.

Febrier · 14/03/2022 19:31

The most surprising aspect is that people seem surprised Confused It was obviously an awful, exploitative shitshow with two minutes of watching.

Actually, the thing that most surprises me is that it was so popular.

RightOnTheEdge · 14/03/2022 19:53

I came on to see if anyone was talking about this because I was really surprised that Graham and his after care had not been been mentioned.
As I started writing it showed a clip of him at the MP's enquiry saying its not my responsibility how the host behaves and people had a choice to be on the show! Hmm
It always made out him and JK were like best mates on the show. He's supposed to be a professional how could he work in a place like that?
He was always made out to be a Saint acting all compassionate and caring but he saw what was going on.

Febrier · 14/03/2022 20:35

Who was Graham? (I haven’t seen episode 2 yet).

Patienceisntvirtuous · 14/03/2022 20:38

Which side is this on please?(on catchup)?

TibetanTerrah · 14/03/2022 20:40

I just watched this for the first time in years, I'm amazed he didn't sue them! They were wise to his shit way before we were Wink

DesignerRecliner · 14/03/2022 20:49

I watched this and was shocked (not at JK) but about the fact that the staff were employed because they were also 'working' class & so the potential guests would trust them more. The pressure to find guests constantly and the fact the show runners outright lied to them to get them riled up. It's despicable and far worse than I could've imagined from a major TV network Shock

Cookiecrumble22 · 14/03/2022 20:53

I think he probably wrecked many life's. The way he spoke to people was awful . He would not let people even tell their story if he did he twisted it . The people were definitely vulnerable I often thought Graham was trying to undo the shit JK caused. But maybe not . Maybe he was just as bad. I get it was not all JK but I think he was the beast of it . It was his voice his tone his words . His body language.

RightOnTheEdge · 14/03/2022 21:20

@Febrier

Who was Graham? (I haven’t seen episode 2 yet).
He was the show's Councellor/therapist. Always made out to be some sort of saint. A big deal was made of him and his after care team.
lollipoprainbow · 14/03/2022 21:23

Why the hell would you have Jk's signature tattooed on you ?!

BorisBooster · 14/03/2022 21:57

Not a great show and awful that people took their own lives.

I had sympathy with those relatives / friends left behind until the girlfriend states she had Jeremy's signature as a tattoo. Ffs.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/03/2022 21:58

I watched both parts , it was truly shocking.

Playplayaway · 14/03/2022 22:05

Poor Adrian. Being wrongly accused on TV in front of a baying crowd completely broke the poor man Sad

BorisBooster · 14/03/2022 22:07

That Graham bloke needs to be brought to account.

Cookiecrumble22 · 14/03/2022 22:27

The lady who had the tattoo with JK it just shows how vulnerable she is. She even said she felt sorry them. So she's not fully grasping the situation.
Gilead · 15/03/2022 08:55

I’m disgusted at the end statement with ITV taking no responsibility whatsoever.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/03/2022 10:25

It was so sad when the scales finally fell from her eyes .

StooOrangeyForCrows · 15/03/2022 10:57

JK is trying to get back into work in the media. He must be stopped form doing this. He is massively to blame for everything that has gone wrong. He has blood on his hands and yet denies responsibility. ITV blame him. He blames ITV. He is a disgusting human being and ITV should be ashamed for giving him a platform. Vile.

rwalker · 15/03/2022 11:03

I'll admit I used to watch it and think it was a case of being desensitised to it .
Only watching clips now after not seeing it for a long time realised how horrific it was .

All this aside I don't think we would toralte it nowadays anyway

One really interesting thing was the Trisha show was exactly the same but because it didn't run as long we seemed to have forgotten all about it .

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/03/2022 11:46

It wasn't anything like TJKS, she didn't tell guests they were useless and a waste of space. The delivery was really gentle compared to JK.

It was the same exploitive format
MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/03/2022 12:28

Oh yes I agree but completely different way of presenting.

Playplayaway · 15/03/2022 14:31

Yes it was the same type of show but I don't remember Trisha being as bad, with the Kyle and camera right in the faces of upset people, egging them on and humiliating them?

Didn't Vanessa Feltz do a similar type of show as well?

I'm glad we don't have any of this type of show anymore.

Playplayaway · 15/03/2022 14:32

I mean following them backstage, right in their faces.
